PagePeeker describes itself as a website screenshot and thumbnail service. Its public pages mention an account-based API, cached renders, and full-page screenshots for premium customers. They do not explain how to provide cookies, HTTP Basic credentials, target-site authorization headers, or a browser session for a password-protected page. That distinction matters: sending a URL to a screenshot service is not the same as sending it a logged-in browser session. Without suitable authentication, the resulting image may show a sign-in page or an access-denied message instead of the app.
Choose a capture method that matches the login
First identify how the app authenticates you. The right approach depends on whether access is granted through an HTTP challenge, a session cookie, a request header, or an interactive browser login.

- Identify the login mechanism. Determine whether the app uses Basic Auth, cookies, a request header, or an interactive login and browser state.
- Verify PagePeeker support. Check its current API documentation or ask its support whether it accepts the specific credential or authenticated state your app requires. The public material described above does not settle that question.
- Use a documented alternative if needed. If PagePeeker cannot handle that authentication method, use a browser capture service that explicitly supports it or run browser automation in an environment you control.

- Inspect the resulting image. Confirm it shows the expected authenticated content rather than a sign-in form, authorization error, stale view, or partially rendered dashboard.
Protect credentials and browser state
Passwords, session cookies, bearer tokens, and saved browser state can grant access to an account. Keep them in protected server-side secrets or files, use the least-privileged account that can perform the capture, and avoid putting credentials in public pages, shared screenshot URLs, source repositories, or logs. PagePeeker’s FAQ says cached renders remain available for several days and that API usage includes more than generating a new render: displaying a cached thumbnail, checking availability, and other API calls also count. Troubleshooting an incorrect screenshot
- The image shows a login page. The capture likely did not receive the required authentication, the session expired, or the cookies were not valid for that domain or path. Confirm the mechanism and ask PagePeeker whether it supports it.
- The image shows an authorization error. Check that the target app received the right credential or header and that it has access to the requested page. Do not confuse the screenshot service’s API key with the app’s credential.
- The dashboard is blank or incomplete. The app may still be rendering client-side content. Wait for a selector that appears only when the desired content is ready, then inspect the capture again. Cloudflare Browser Run screenshot documentation
- A cookie-based capture works once, then fails. Sessions can expire; domain and path scope can also prevent a cookie from applying to the capture URL. Refresh the session securely and avoid reusing stale state.
- The result is an old page. PagePeeker says it caches renders for several days. Check whether the returned thumbnail is cached and whether the current plan or API operation allows a fresh render. PagePeeker FAQ

Do not place passwords, cookies, or tokens in a public URL. Use a documented, protected credential mechanism in the capture service or an authenticated browser session.
