On desktop Chrome, open DevTools, enable the Device Toolbar, open the device-mode More options menu, and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome captures the page beyond the visible viewport and downloads an image, so you do not have to scroll manually.
Use Chrome DevTools for a full-page screenshot
Chrome includes a full-page capture command; you do not need an extension for a one-off screenshot. The wording can move slightly between Chrome releases, but the workflow is the same.
- Open the page. Navigate to the webpage you want to save and wait for its visible content to finish loading.
- Open DevTools. Use Chrome’s More tools > Developer tools command, or the DevTools keyboard shortcut for your operating system.
- Enable device mode. In DevTools, click the Toggle device toolbar button. The page will appear inside a device-mode viewport.
- Open More options. In the device-mode toolbar, open its More options menu. This is separate from the main Chrome menu and from DevTools’ other menus.
- Capture the page. Select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome renders the page beyond the current viewport and downloads the resulting image.
Open the downloaded image to check the bottom and any sections that were initially below the fold. If you choose Capture screenshot instead, Chrome saves only the currently visible viewport; that command is not a scrolling capture.

A full-size image can be extremely tall. Before sharing it, inspect text at the top, middle and bottom, and open it at 100% zoom to make sure it remains legible.

Prepare the page before capturing
Wait for content that loads late
Let images, charts and navigation finish loading before invoking the command. If a section appears only after an interaction, perform that interaction first. A screenshot records the page state at capture time; it does not replace content that the site has not yet created.
Decide whether device mode is appropriate
Device mode changes the emulated viewport and can change responsive layout, breakpoints and navigation. If you need the desktop layout, choose a desktop-sized device or set a wide viewport before capturing. If you need the mobile layout, select the intended mobile preset and verify the responsive result before saving it.
Close transient UI
Dismiss menus, tooltips and accidental selection overlays that should not appear in the final image. Conversely, leave a consent dialog or product tour open when documenting that exact state.
What can go wrong on dynamic pages?
Full-size capture is not a guarantee that every modern page will be represented perfectly. The browser can capture what is present in the rendered document, but some sites deliberately create, recycle or replace content as you scroll.

In a virtualized feed, rows outside a small rendering window may not exist in the document at the same time. A DOM-based full-page capture can therefore omit items that would appear only after scrolling. Inspect the output for gaps rather than assuming that the image contains the feed’s theoretical end.

Infinite scroll
An infinite-scroll page has no fixed bottom until the site stops requesting more data. Capture the loaded state only after the sections you need have actually appeared. If the page keeps loading indefinitely, there may be no meaningful single full-page image.
Editor and preview shells
Some editors place the actual page inside a canvas, iframe or application shell. The command may capture the shell, a partial canvas or a preview state instead of the document you intended. Use the published page URL where possible, and verify that the captured image contains the content rather than the editor chrome.
Very long documents
Some capture workflows scale a very long page to fit into one image. The result may be complete but hard to read. If readability matters, capture logical sections separately or export to PDF when the site or your workflow supports it.

Android uses a device-level scrolling screenshot, not Chrome’s desktop DevTools command. On Android 12 and later, most screens that allow scrolling support this workflow:
- Open the page in Chrome and position it where you want the capture to begin.
- Take a normal screenshot with your phone’s hardware buttons.
- Tap Capture more in the screenshot controls.
- Use the crop guides to extend the capture through the additional content, then save it.
Phone manufacturers can rename, reposition or limit these controls. If Capture more does not appear, that screen or device may not support a scrolling capture.

Optional Chrome extensions for a faster repeat workflow
An extension can put a full-page button or shortcut in the toolbar, which is useful when you capture pages repeatedly. It is not required for the built-in desktop procedure, and an extension that captures a page needs access to that page’s content. Review its permissions and privacy statements before installing it.
FullPageShot
The FullPageShot Chrome Web Store listing describes a one-click full-page PNG saved to Downloads. It lists Ctrl+Shift+Y on Windows/Linux and Command+Shift+Y on Mac as the default shortcuts. The listing showed version 2.3.0, updated September 24, 2026, and zero ratings at that time. It says the extension requests the debugger and downloads permissions and describes the project as open source with no tracking, analytics, remote code or screenshot uploads. Those are statements from the listing, not an independent audit, and they can change.

GoFullPage
GoFullPage’s published changelog lists version 8.7 dated August 11, 2026. Earlier entries mention fixes involving long-page capture, scrolling and particular site behaviors. A changelog demonstrates maintenance activity; it does not prove that every page will capture correctly.
When an extension is the better choice
- Use DevTools for an occasional capture without installing software.
- Use an extension when a toolbar button or shortcut saves repeated clicks.
- Prefer the built-in command for sensitive pages when you do not want to grant another extension page access.
- Whichever route you choose, inspect dynamic and unusually long pages for missing or unreadable content.
Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect full-page screenshot
The full-size command is missing
Make sure DevTools is open and the Device Toolbar is enabled. The command appears in the device-mode More options menu, not in the ordinary page context menu. If labels differ, update Chrome and look for the equivalent full-size capture command.
The image stops partway down
Check whether the page uses a virtualized component, iframe, infinite scroll or an inner scroll container. Scroll that container until the required content is loaded, then try again. If the content is still recycled or absent from the document, a single DOM capture may not be able to include it.

Images or charts are blank
Wait for network activity and lazy-loaded images to finish. Refresh, allow the page to settle, and capture again. If an image is loaded only after a hover, click or scroll event, trigger that event before starting the capture.
The layout looks like mobile when you expected desktop
Device mode may have selected a narrow preset. Choose a desktop-sized preset or set the required viewport width, then verify the responsive breakpoints before capturing.
The result is complete but unreadable
Extremely tall pages can be scaled into one image. Capture sections separately, use a larger viewport where appropriate, or create a PDF for documents that need to be read rather than viewed as one poster-like image.
An extension fails or asks for unexpected access
Read the current store listing, permissions and privacy explanation. Disable the extension and use DevTools if the permissions do not fit your use case. Store listings, shortcuts and versions can change.
