Chrome can capture a page beyond the visible browser window without an extension: open DevTools, turn on Device Mode, then choose More options → Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome does not publish a minimum RAM requirement for this feature, so a low-memory laptop may manage ordinary pages but unusually long or complex ones can be more demanding.
Capture the entire page with Chrome DevTools
- Open the page you want to save in Chrome.
- Open DevTools. For example, right-click the page and choose Inspect.
- Turn on Device Mode in DevTools using its device-shaped toolbar button.
- In the Device Mode toolbar, open More options.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome captures the page beyond the part currently visible in the browser window. See Chrome DevTools Device Mode documentation.
Chrome saves the resulting screenshot as an image file. The exact file dimensions depend on the page and capture; the documentation does not specify a fixed output size.
Choose the right screenshot command

The first two commands are available from Device Mode’s screenshot options. The Command Menu’s area screenshot is a different workflow, not a full-page capture. Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on macOS, then search for the area screenshot command. What to expect on a low-RAM laptop
Chrome’s memory guidance gives no universal threshold for how much memory is too much: device and browser capabilities differ. It does not state a minimum RAM amount for full-page screenshots or quantify the memory this workflow uses. A page that runs smoothly on one device can perform poorly or crash on another. As a practical precaution—not a measured Chrome benchmark—very long pages or pages with complex content may put more demand on a constrained laptop than a short, simple page. The documented procedure does not require buying extra hardware or installing a memory-cleaning utility.
If the capture fails or looks incomplete
- You got only what is on screen: choose Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot.
- You captured only a region: the Command Menu’s area option is for a selected region. Use Device Mode’s full-size option for the whole page.
- The area command is unavailable or does not work: dock DevTools and try again; area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked.
- Chrome becomes slow or crashes on a long page: the cited Chrome guidance sets no RAM threshold or screenshot-specific fix. Retry with only the target page open and avoid other memory-heavy work if possible; this is a general troubleshooting precaution, not a documented guarantee.
- Important content is missing: check whether it appears on the page before capturing. Chrome’s cited documentation explains capture scope, but does not promise how every site’s delayed or interactive content will render.
