Use Playwright’s page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }) option to capture a page’s full scrollable extent rather than only the visible viewport. The example below saves a PNG, checks for an unsuccessful HTTP response, and closes the browser. Replace the example address with the public portal page you are authorized to access.
Capture a full-page screenshot with Playwright
Install Playwright in your project, then save this as a JavaScript file such as capture.js. The example uses Chromium and Node.js:

Check the resulting image and confirm that it shows the right page and the content you intended to capture. A navigation response can have an HTTP error status without page.goto() throwing, so checking response.ok() helps catch responses such as 404 or 500. A successful HTTP response alone does not confirm that the portal rendered the expected content. See Playwright’s page.goto() documentation.

Choose the screenshot format and scale
Playwright supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP output. The path determines the saved filename; explicitly set type when you want to specify the format. PNG is a practical choice for text-heavy pages. JPEG is lossy, so use it only if that trade-off is acceptable. Consult the screenshot API options for supported formats and defaults.
The scale option controls pixel dimensions:
scale: 'css'produces one image pixel per CSS pixel.scale: 'device'captures device pixels and may produce a larger image on a high-density display.
For a reproducible image that is not tied to a high-density display, set scale: 'css'. If retaining device-pixel detail matters more, use scale: 'device' and account for the larger output.

Stabilize dynamic content carefully
Disable animations when a steady image matters
Pass animations: 'disabled' to disable CSS animations, transitions, and Web Animations for the screenshot operation. Playwright applies documented behavior to finite and infinite animations; check the API documentation if an animation’s state matters to your capture.

The screenshot API can mask selected locators, covering their bounding boxes, and can apply a stylesheet for the screenshot. These controls can help manage changing visual elements, but they also alter what the saved image shows. Do not mask information that readers need as evidence, or use injected styling that makes the captured page misleading. The API also offers a setting to hide the text caret. Understand what full-page capture does—and does not do
fullPage: true changes the screenshot extent to the full scrollable page. It does not, by itself, guarantee that a site-specific interaction has happened or that every lazy-loaded item is present. A portal may reveal content only after a normal user action such as scrolling, clicking, or submitting a form. Complete the authorized workflow that makes the desired content appear before taking the screenshot, then inspect the image for missing sections.
The available Playwright documentation describes the API, not the behavior or terms of any particular Indian government portal. Do not assume every portal allows automation, works without sign-in, or renders identically in headless mode. Follow the selected site’s access guidance, capture only information you are authorized to access, and avoid exposing personal or session data in an image.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The image shows an error page or the wrong destination: inspect the URL and the response returned by
page.goto(). Throwing on a non-OK response, as in the example, catches HTTP error statuses; also verify the rendered page content before capture. - Lower sections or results are missing: determine whether the page reveals them only after scrolling, clicking, or submitting a form. Make them appear through the portal’s normal authorized workflow before capturing. Full-page extent is not a promise that every dynamic or lazy-loaded element has loaded.
- The screenshot looks different from the page you expected: the sources do not establish how a specific portal behaves in headless mode. Check the saved image and, where necessary, compare it with the page reached through the portal’s normal workflow. Do not infer that a particular browser engine is more accurate for government sites.
- The output is unexpectedly large: choose
scale: 'css'rather than'device'if one pixel per CSS pixel is sufficient, and choose an image format appropriate to your needs. - The captured state changes between runs: consider
animations: 'disabled'for animations, and use masks or screenshot styling only if changing or sensitive visual elements can be safely obscured without misrepresenting the page.

Screenshot versus accessibility testing
A screenshot records appearance; it is not an accessibility audit. Playwright’s accessibility guide describes checking some detectable issues, including difficult color contrast, form controls without labels, and duplicate IDs. Its example uses @axe-core/playwright for a separate analysis step. Treat that as an optional check distinct from screenshot capture, not as proof that a portal is fully accessible: Playwright accessibility testing.
