In Firefox, right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, then select Save full page. To make the result smaller in pixel dimensions, use Firefox Developer Tools’ :screenshot --fullpage --dpr 0.5 command or capture only the section you need. Lower pixel dimensions reduce detail; selecting part of the page reduces what is included. Neither approach makes a full-page image cost-free in readability or scope.
Capture a full page in Firefox
Firefox includes a point-and-click full-page screenshot tool. The saved result is an image in Firefox’s configured download folder. Mozilla’s screenshot instructions document these steps:
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Right-click an empty part of the page, or Control-click on Mac, and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on Mac.
- Choose Save full page.
- Select Download to save the image.
If the menu item or shortcut does not open the screenshot tool, use Firefox’s page context menu and check that you clicked the page rather than a browser toolbar or control.
Reduce the image’s scope or pixel dimensions
A tall capture can be unwieldy because it contains the whole page. First decide whether you actually need the whole thing. If you do, Firefox’s Developer Tools screenshot helper offers controls for selecting content and adjusting device pixel ratio (DPR). See Firefox’s screenshot helper documentation.

Capture only the relevant content
For a quick capture, Firefox’s screenshot interface offers Save visible, region selection, and automatically highlighted page-part capture. These options are useful when only one section matters.
For a specific element, open Firefox Developer Tools’ Web Console and use the --selector option to capture a CSS-selected element and its descendants:

Replace main article with a selector that matches the content you need. If the selector matches the wrong element or nothing at all, inspect the page’s HTML and adjust it. Capturing a smaller region avoids unrelated material, but it does not produce a full-page image.

Lower the pixel dimensions with DPR
To retain the whole page but reduce the image’s pixel dimensions, use a DPR value below 1. For example:
:screenshot --fullpage --dpr 0.5
Mozilla describes values below 1 as producing a “zoomed-out” image. A lower DPR means fewer pixels and less fine detail, so inspect small text, labels, and interface details at the size people will actually view the image. The documentation does not promise a particular file-size reduction; the practical result depends on the page and image content.
Set a delay or filename when needed
The helper supports a delay, which can help when you need a menu or hover state to remain visible, and a custom filename. The filename option expects a .png extension. Consult the Firefox helper documentation for the command’s option syntax before using additional flags.

Chrome: use the documented area-capture route
Chrome DevTools’ Command Menu opens with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on Mac. Type screenshot to find screenshot actions. The Chrome documentation reviewed here specifically verifies Capture area screenshot; it does not spell out a full-page command. For a smaller image, use area capture to select only the needed part rather than relying on an unverified full-page command. See Chrome’s Command Menu documentation.
Choose between a tall image and a more practical capture
- You need just the currently visible material: choose Firefox’s Save visible.
- You need one section or element: use Firefox region or page-part selection, or the Web Console’s
--selectoroption. - You need the whole page in one image: capture full page, then consider a lower DPR if fewer pixels are acceptable.
- You need readable detail more than one continuous image: consider saving or printing the page as a PDF through your browser. The exact current platform-specific PDF steps are not covered here.
Full-page capture does not guarantee that every dynamic page will render exactly as intended. Lazy-loaded content, animation, embedded material, or independently scrolling panels may not appear as expected. Open the saved image and check that it is complete and legible; if not, capture the relevant area separately.
Troubleshoot an incomplete or hard-to-read capture
- The image is too tall or contains irrelevant material: switch to Save visible, a region, a highlighted page part, or a CSS selector.
- Text is too small after reducing DPR: use a higher DPR or capture a smaller section so it can remain legible.
- A dynamic section is missing or looks wrong: inspect the saved image rather than assuming the full-page capture succeeded. Try capturing that section separately; full-page support for every dynamic or nested-scroll layout is not established.
- The selector capture is blank or wrong: check that the selector matches the intended element and its descendants.
- The filename option fails: use a filename ending in
.png, as required by the Firefox helper.

No. Firefox documents the pixel-ratio control, but it does not promise a particular file-size reduction.
