Use page.screenshot({ fullPage: true }) to capture the full scrollable page. To control a sticky or fixed header in the image, apply a targeted CSS override with the screenshot’s style option. Playwright documents screenshot-time styles, but not a dedicated sticky-header switch, so check the result with your page and browser.
Capture the full page and adjust the header
In Playwright, set fullPage: true on page.screenshot(). Playwright describes this as capturing the full scrollable page as if it were displayed on a screen tall enough to fit it. The style option lets you apply CSS while taking the screenshot; using it to change a sticky header’s positioning is a practical workaround, not a guaranteed special handling mode.

});Replace header.site-header with a selector that matches the header on your page. Making the header static changes its positioning for the capture so it participates in normal document flow. If you do not want the header in the image, hide it instead:

});These rules produce different images: the first keeps the header visible but changes its layout behavior; the second removes it. Use the least invasive rule that fits your goal, and inspect the saved screenshot. Site-specific CSS and browser behavior can affect the result.
Runnable Playwright example
This JavaScript example opens a page in Chromium, captures the full page with a header override, and closes the browser. Install Playwright in your project and install its Chromium browser before running it.

Use an element screenshot only for an element
locator.screenshot() captures a specific element and scrolls that target into view first. It is useful when you want an element image, not a full-document capture. If the target is a scrollable container, the screenshot shows only the content currently scrolled into view; it does not automatically reveal all of that container’s content.
Troubleshoot the result
- The header still looks wrong: Confirm your CSS selector matches the actual header, then inspect the captured image. Try a more specific selector if another rule overrides yours. The screenshot-time style is a workaround; Playwright does not document a dedicated sticky-header option.
- The header is missing: Check whether your override uses
display: none. Use the static-position rule if you want it visible in the capture. - The image shows only part of the page: Make sure you called
page.screenshot()withfullPage: true, rather than taking a locator screenshot or an ordinary viewport screenshot. - A scrollable region is incomplete: A full-page capture concerns the page’s scrollable document; a locator screenshot of a scrollable container captures its currently visible content. Do not treat the latter as a capture of every scrolled state.
