For an automated full-page screenshot with Playwright, set fullPage: true and choose what should happen to the animation: use animations: 'disabled' for a non-running, repeatable capture, or animations: 'allow' to leave it running. Disabling does not always show the animation’s starting frame: finite animations are fast-forwarded to completion, while infinite animations are canceled to their initial state for the screenshot.
Capture the full page and choose how to handle animation
Playwright treats page size and animation behavior as separate screenshot options. fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page, not just the visible viewport. The animations option determines whether animation effects are disabled or left untouched.
For a stable capture: disable animation
Install Playwright and its Chromium browser if they are not already available in your project:

npx playwright install chromiumSave this as screenshot.js, replacing the example URL with the page you want to capture:

})();Run it with node screenshot.js. The output is page.png in the current directory. animations: 'disabled' stops CSS animations, CSS transitions, and Web Animations during the screenshot operation. Playwright handles finite and infinite effects differently: finite animations are fast-forwarded to completion, firing transitionend; infinite animations are canceled to their initial state for the screenshot and played over afterward.
To leave animation active
Change the option to animations: 'allow'. This leaves animation effects untouched, so the screenshot reflects the page as rendered at capture time. The API documentation does not promise a particular animation frame or deterministic timing. If the exact visual moment matters, do not assume that allowing animation will select it.

Choose the right capture for your goal

Use the automated route when animation handling must be explicit or the capture needs to run in a script. Firefox’s manual full-page capture is an option when you only need a one-off image and do not need documented animation control. The Firefox screenshot workflow described here does not establish a way to freeze the animation or select a frame.
Troubleshooting and practical limits
The output shows a different state than the animation’s beginning
That can be expected with animations: 'disabled': finite animations are fast-forwarded to completion. Infinite animations are treated differently and are canceled to their initial state for the screenshot. If you need the effect visibly running, use 'allow', but the captured point is not guaranteed to be a particular frame.

The screenshot contains only the viewport
Check that fullPage: true is present in the page.screenshot options. Without it, the screenshot is not configured to capture the full scrollable page.
The page appears incomplete or navigation does not finish
The example waits for networkidle before capturing. Pages with continuing network activity may not reach that condition promptly. If that wait is unsuitable for the page, choose a wait condition that matches the page’s behavior; for example, wait for a known page element before taking the screenshot. A longer wait does not make an animation frame deterministic.

The command cannot find Chromium
Install the browser Playwright expects with npx playwright install chromium, then rerun the script. The browser install and the JavaScript package are separate setup requirements.
