To capture a lazy-loaded news article completely, first scroll through it so the page has a chance to load content that appears only near the viewport, then take a full-page screenshot and inspect the saved image from top to bottom. A full-page setting expands the capture area; it does not necessarily trigger the scrolling that some pages need to load images or sections.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss article content
A full-page screenshot captures the page’s scrollable area as one image. It does not guarantee that every image, embed, or article section has already loaded. Some pages wait until content approaches the visible viewport before loading it, using lazy-loading behavior or scroll-triggered scripts.
Playwright describes full-page capture as a screenshot of the full scrollable page, as if it were displayed on a very tall screen (Playwright Screenshots guide; Page API). In a Playwright feature discussion, contributors explain that a full-page capture may not cause page scripts to observe the scrolling needed to trigger lazy content; scrolling through the page first gives those scripts an opportunity to run (Playwright issue #40941). The issue is a feature discussion, not proof that a particular proposed option exists in a released version.

Manual method: scroll first, then save the full page in Firefox
- Open the article and wait for its initial text and layout to appear.
- Scroll down through the article in manageable increments. Pause when images or text need time to load. Continue to the end, or until scrolling no longer reveals the article content you expect.
- Use any page-specific “load more” control if the article is split across a control rather than loaded by scrolling alone.
- Capture the full page. In Firefox, use the screenshot tool and choose Save full page. Mozilla documents the built-in screenshot workflow and saving the image in its Firefox screenshot instructions.
- Inspect the image from top to bottom. Confirm it reaches the article’s end and check for missing sections, blank image placeholders, duplicated sticky elements, or overlays obscuring text.
There is no universal scroll distance, pause duration, or number of scrolls that works for every news site. Let the visible result guide you: if new article content or images are still appearing, continue before capturing.

Automate the workflow with Playwright
For repeatable captures, scroll the page before calling Playwright’s full-page screenshot API. The example below uses a viewport-sized scroll increment and waits for scrolling to settle before continuing; it does not assume that one fixed delay will suit every site. Adjust the pause for the page and verify the final image.

This loop is a practical starting point, not a guarantee that every site’s loading mechanism has fired: pages may append content after a longer delay, require a specific “load more” action, or use behavior not triggered by ordinary scrolling. If article content continues to appear at the bottom, extend the scrolling logic or handle the site’s control explicitly. Playwright documents the fullPage option and full-page capture behavior in its Page API.

Choose the method that fits the job

Neither method guarantees that every site will load every intended element. The page’s behavior and your inspection of the result determine whether the capture is complete.
Troubleshoot missing or incomplete content
- Images are blank or placeholders remain: Scroll until they enter the viewport, pause for loading, and capture again. Check whether the image appears on the page before taking the screenshot.
- The screenshot ends before the article does: The page may append content as you reach the bottom. Continue scrolling, or use its “load more” control, then repeat the capture.
- Text or images are duplicated: Inspect for sticky headers, floating widgets, or page elements that move or repeat during full-page capture. A different capture workflow may be needed for that site.
- Automated scrolling stops too soon: A fixed pause or a stable page height may not detect delayed content. Increase the wait where appropriate and add logic for the site’s own loading control; verify the resulting image rather than relying on the script alone.
- The saved image looks complete but you are unsure: Compare its bottom edge and article sections with the page, checking from top to bottom for omissions and overlays.
