To cancel TalkTalk, first check which services are on your account and whether you are still within a minimum term. If you are switching providers, confirm whether the new provider will notify TalkTalk; the switch does not always use that route. If you are not switching, contact TalkTalk directly and ask it to confirm the services ending, the disconnection date and any charges.

Before you cancel, check what is on your account

List the services you want to end: broadband, TalkTalk TV, mobile, add-ons and TalkTalk Mail Plus may not all follow the same cancellation path. TalkTalk TV requires TalkTalk broadband, so cancelling the broadband also ends that TV service. TalkTalk mobile can continue, but its charges may change when other TalkTalk services are cancelled. Check the effect on each service with TalkTalk before proceeding: TalkTalk cancellation guidance.

Check your minimum term and possible charges

  1. Sign in to My Account.
  2. Open My Package or Package & Add-ons and check the contract end date.
  3. Ask TalkTalk for a charge estimate based on your package, end date and any add-on commitments before choosing a cancellation date.

TalkTalk says a 14-day cancellation window starts the day after you agree to a contract; during that period, charges are limited to services used. Outside a minimum term, TalkTalk says 30 days’ notice applies. Leaving before the minimum term ends can result in early termination charges, and breaking an add-on commitment may incur a separate charge. The amount depends on your package and remaining months, so an example rate on a help page is not a quote for your account. Check the terms that apply to your order with TalkTalk’s cancellation page and contract-end guidance.

Choose the cancellation route that fits

Situation What to do
You are not switching provider Contact TalkTalk through its current help or contact options. Ask it to confirm your notice period, disconnection date, affected services and account-specific charges.
You are switching provider Place the new order and ask the gaining provider whether it will submit the disconnection request. TalkTalk says the provider-led process is not always used.
The new provider cannot take over your existing line TalkTalk says you may need to contact it directly; confirm who is responsible for ending the old service.
You are switching to Virgin or Vodafone on CityFibre TalkTalk identifies this as an exception requiring you to contact it directly.

TalkTalk’s One Touch Switching guidance explains the provider-led route and its exceptions: switching your broadband. Do not assume that placing a new order automatically cancels every TalkTalk service on your account.

Get the end date and services confirmed

When you speak to TalkTalk or your new provider, make a note of who is handling the cancellation and ask for written confirmation. Check that it identifies the agreed end date and the services being stopped, and retain any charge estimate. TalkTalk says it confirms when service is due to end; depending on which services you have and the timing of a switch, you may receive more than one final bill. Its cancellation guidance is at talktalk.co.uk.

Return equipment using the instructions for your account

If TalkTalk asks you to return equipment, follow the return instructions it sends and keep proof of dispatch. Its public guidance is inconsistent: one cancellation section gives a 28-day deadline and another gives 42 days, while its billing guidance says a charge may apply if equipment is not returned within 28 days of receiving a returns bag. Because the published pages do not establish one consistent deadline, check the date in your own instructions and ask TalkTalk to clarify any discrepancy. See cancellation guidance and equipment charges.

Review the final bill before stopping payments

Keep your recurring payment active until the final bill has been paid. TalkTalk advises against cancelling it beforehand; an active payment method may also allow a credit refund to be processed. Check the final bill for part-period charges, early termination or add-on charges, and any equipment charge. For account-specific billing guidance, see TalkTalk’s cancellation page and billing help.

Does the TalkTalk ownership change affect cancellation?

TalkTalk says BT Group acquired TalkTalk Telecommunications Limited and customer contracts transferred to that company on 5 October 2026. Its notice says services continue as normal, existing contract terms remain unchanged and customers need take no action because of the transfer. The corporate change does not itself cancel your service. Read TalkTalk’s notice about the BT transaction.
