To stop future charges, cancel the subscription through the company that bills it—not necessarily the streaming service whose app you use. Check the service’s account page, receipt, or bank statement to identify the biller, complete its cancellation flow before the next renewal or trial deadline, and save the confirmation and displayed expiration date. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
1. Find out who bills the subscription
Start with the streaming service’s account page. Look for a section named Subscription, Billing, Payment Information, or similar; it may name the company managing the charge. If the page is unclear, search your email for a payment receipt and check the merchant name on your card or bank statement.
The billing company may be Apple, Roku, a mobile or TV provider, a bundle partner, or the streaming service itself. HBO Max, for example, directs customers to check its subscription page or statement to identify the biller. Hulu says customers billed through a third party must manage the subscription with that partner; its Payment Information section identifies the billing party.
If you think Apple bills you, find the Apple receipt and check which Apple Account it names. If the subscription is not listed in Apple’s account settings, Apple advises that another company may be billing it. Contact the company shown on the receipt or statement rather than repeatedly searching Apple’s settings.

2. Cancel through the billing company
Sign in to the account or app for the biller you identified, then complete its cancellation or auto-renewal-off flow. Follow the confirmation steps to the end; closing a page or removing an app is not proof that billing has stopped.
Apple-billed subscriptions
- On an iPhone, open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then select the subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and complete any confirmation prompts.
Apple says that if there is no Cancel button, or a red expiration notice is displayed, the subscription is already canceled. Apple provides separate routes for other devices and the web; use its current instructions for the device you have.

Roku-managed subscriptions
On the web, go to my.roku.com/subscriptions, select the active subscription, choose Manage subscription, then Turn off auto-renew. On a Roku device, highlight the app, press the Star button on the remote, choose Manage subscription, and select Turn off auto-renew.
If Roku does not offer a cancellation control, the subscription may be managed by the service provider. Roku specifically directs customers with Disney+, Hulu, or Sling TV subscriptions processed through Roku to contact those services to cancel.

HBO Max and other billing arrangements
For HBO Max, first check the subscription page to find the biller. Direct subscribers cancel through HBO Max; subscribers billed by Apple, Google Play, Samsung, or an internet, mobile, or TV provider must use that company’s cancellation route. Other services and bundles can work similarly: use the provider named in the account details or payment record.
These are examples, not universal screen instructions. Menus and cancellation routes can vary by country, device, bundle, and billing arrangement. Check the current help page for the company that actually controls your subscription.

3. Cancel before the renewal or trial deadline
Use the next billing date shown in your account as the deadline to beat. For trials, do not assume that canceling on the final day is soon enough: Roku says to cancel before a trial ends, and Apple says trial subscriptions should be canceled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. HBO Max also advises canceling before the next billing date.
After cancellation, save the confirmation email or take a screenshot of the status and expiration date. Those details help distinguish a completed cancellation from an unfinished request if a later charge needs investigation.

4. Know what happens to access after cancellation
Canceling usually stops renewal rather than ending access immediately. Roku and HBO Max say customers can continue streaming until the current paid billing period expires. Check the expiration date displayed for your account; that date and the plan terms determine when access ends.
Do not assume a refund will follow cancellation. Roku says it does not provide partial-term refunds for the Roku subscriptions covered by its guidance; that policy should not be applied to subscriptions billed by other companies.
5. If you cannot find the subscription or another charge appears
Check other accounts and billing routes
- Check whether you used a different Apple Account, Roku account, or streaming-service login. Apple recommends checking the account named on the receipt; Roku notes that multiple devices or accounts and household purchases can complicate charge identification.
- Ask household members whether they started the subscription through their account or device.
- Review bundles and mobile, internet, or TV plans that may include or bill for the service.
- Compare receipts and statement entries; a payment descriptor may identify the billing company rather than the familiar streaming brand.
Investigate a charge after cancellation
Compare the charge date with the renewal date, cancellation confirmation, and displayed expiration date. Check the merchant descriptor and contact the company that bills the subscription, providing your confirmation and relevant dates. For Disney+, Hulu, or Sling TV charges processed by Roku, Roku directs customers to the service provider for help.
Roku says its statement charges may appear as “Roku,” “Roku for ___,” or “The Roku Channel,” and may use a parent-company name. A descriptor that looks unfamiliar is a reason to check account history and other household accounts before concluding the charge is unrelated. The official guidance cited here does not establish a universal refund entitlement or a standard resolution time.
