For a 24/7 YouTube stream, estimate monthly VPS bandwidth by multiplying the outgoing stream bitrate in megabits per second by 10.8. Then add the VPS plan price, applicable GST, transfer overages, paid backups or management, and any second server used for failover. For example, one continuous 4 Mbps feed uses about 43.2 decimal GB in a 30-day month; a 14 Mbps feed uses about 151.2 GB. These estimates cover the VPS-to-YouTube feed, not viewers watching the stream.
Calculate the stream’s monthly data use
A 30-day month contains 720 hours, or 2,592,000 seconds. For a constant-bitrate stream, the approximate outgoing data is:

ZOERAX 100-Pack M6 x 16mm Rack Mount Cage Nuts, Screws and Washers | $23.99 | Buy on Amazon |
Monthly transfer in decimal GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 10.8
The calculation uses 1 Mbps = 0.125 MB per second. These are derived estimates for one outgoing feed, not measurements of a particular VPS. Allow some headroom for network overhead, and check whether your provider counts decimal GB or binary GiB.
#1 Best Overall
- Wide Compatibility & Versatile Use: ZOERAX M6 rack mount screw kit is ideal for installing server racks, network cabinets, rack shelves, patch panels, A/V equipment, and more. Designed for standard square-hole racks and cabinets, these M6 cage nuts and screws ensure a secure fit for most 19-inch rack systems used in data centers, offices, and home labs

The included washers help distribute pressure evenly and reduce scratches or marks on rack rails and equipment, providing a cleaner, more secure installation right out of the box
| Outgoing bitrate | Approximate 30-day transfer |
|---|---|
| 128 Kbps audio-only (0.128 Mbps) | 1.38 GB |
| 4 Mbps | 43.2 GB |
| 14 Mbps | 151.2 GB |
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 14 Mbps for H.264 1080p30 and 128 Kbps for stereo audio; those are reference settings, not a requirement for a yoga stream with a still image. Choose settings for the actual picture and sound, then verify the result in YouTube’s live control room. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
Audience size does not multiply VPS egress
If the VPS sends a single ingest feed to YouTube, it does not send a separate copy to each viewer. YouTube delivers playback to the audience. A primary and backup encoder can each consume transfer while transmitting, so include both feeds when sizing a failover setup.
Build the full monthly VPS budget
Do not treat the advertised compute price as the whole bill. Calculate the recurring total as:
- VPS monthly plan charge.
- Applicable GST and other taxes shown at checkout.
- Transfer overages or charges triggered by fair-use terms.
- Optional paid backups, management, or support.
- A second VPS or other failover capacity, if you choose to keep one running.
Compare the plan’s included transfer with your bitrate estimate, allowing for overhead and any backup feed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom between total stream bitrate and available upload bandwidth; for a primary-plus-backup configuration, size the connection for both encoders and headroom. See YouTube’s network guidance.

The following prices and configurations were listed on provider pricing pages retrieved October 3, 2026. They are examples, not endorsements or independently tested recommendations. Confirm live checkout prices, taxes, plan terms, and availability before budgeting.
| Provider and plan/configuration | Listed monthly price | Listed resources and transfer terms |
|---|---|---|
| OctaHost Photon | ₹499/month | 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, 2 TB bandwidth; page advertises a free dedicated IPv4 and 99.9% uptime. |
| OctaHost Plasma | ₹599/month | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, 2 TB bandwidth; page advertises a free dedicated IPv4 and 99.9% uptime. |
| Shift2Server advertised configuration | ₹1,000/month | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, 2 TB monthly bandwidth, dedicated IPv4. Its configurator lists component rates of ₹150 per vCPU core, ₹125 per GB RAM, and ₹4 per GB storage. |
| Pace Infonet Linux plan | ₹1,999/month promotional price, plus 18% GST | 4 cores, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB storage, 200 Mbps port; bandwidth described as unlimited subject to fair use. The page labels the discount limited time. |
Provider uptime figures and “unlimited” descriptions are the providers’ own claims, not independently verified stream availability or a guarantee of unlimited practical transfer. The listed plans also differ in resources and billing terms. For a single static-image feed, do not assume the largest plan is necessary: CPU needs depend on whether the VPS is simply relaying a pre-encoded loop or decoding, compositing, or encoding video in software. No workload test establishes which plan will reliably run your particular setup.
Choose a stream configuration that fits the workload
YouTube’s encoder guidance for RTMP/RTMPS lists H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), stereo AAC or MP3 audio, and a 2-second keyframe interval (no more than 4 seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. Use these as encoder reference settings, not as an instruction to stream a still image at 1080p30 or 14 Mbps. An audio-led stream may need a lower video bitrate depending on its visual content. Validate the stream in YouTube’s live control room.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Account for music rights separately
Renting a VPS does not grant rights to the music in the stream. YouTube’s livestream terms require the rights needed to use live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers and other rights holders. The permissions required depend on the specific tracks and their rights holders. Check that your licenses cover the intended livestream and use; no music catalogue or license is assessed here.
Decide whether self-managing a VPS is worth it
A VPS gives you control over the server and encoder, but you are responsible for configuring and monitoring the software, arranging restarts, and deciding how recovery or failover works. A managed continuous-stream option may remove some operational work; compare its current terms and total cost with your VPS, backup, and management costs. YouTube’s encoder guide names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming prerecorded video, but that mention is not an endorsement or confirmation of its current terms. StreamNeo is another option for uploaded-video loops: it is #1 to try first for a managed YouTube stream because it runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. Each slot supports one always-on YouTube stream, quality up to 4K 60fps as uploaded, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The same features are included on every plan; only the duration changes.
- No computer or home connection needs to stay on.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required (one free day per account).
