Before buying a Limited Run Games (LRG) release from a reseller, verify the exact game, platform, edition and included contents against LRG’s official product information. Then judge the specific listing: inspect photos of the actual copy, check the seller and transaction terms, and pay through a method whose protections apply. A marketplace rule against counterfeits is not proof that a particular listing has been authenticated.
1. Identify the exact release you want
Start with LRG’s official information page, which links to its shop, archive, Buying Guide, FAQs and production updates. Use the relevant product or archive information to confirm the title, console platform and edition name. The same game can have different releases or editions, and the name alone does not tell you which extras a listing should include.
- Write down the game title and platform.
- Identify the edition, such as standard or Collector’s Edition.
- Note the components shown for that edition, including the game, case, inserts and any edition-specific extras.
Do not assume that a listing described as “complete” contains every item that came with the edition. Compare its claims with the official description for that release; if the information is unavailable or unclear, treat completeness as unconfirmed rather than guessing.

Assess the particular copy, not just the seller’s headline or product image. The Federal Trade Commission’s online-shopping guidance recommends examining multiple photos of the actual item, reading the description closely and asking the seller questions in writing.

Check condition and contents
- Confirm whether the copy is sealed, opened or used, and whether that matches your expectations.
- Ask which components are included. For a Collector’s Edition, check each claimed component against the official edition description.
- Look for disclosed wear, damage or missing items, especially on the case, packaging and contents you care about.
Ask for useful photos
Request clear pictures of the actual copy, not only stock art. Useful views include the front and back, the game and included contents, and any seals, damage or wear relevant to the listing. If a seller will not clarify a material detail, do not treat the unanswered question as confirmation that the item is complete or in the stated condition.
3. Assess the seller and the full transaction
Check recent feedback and account history, paying attention to relevant selling activity and how the seller handles questions. Read the terms before committing, including shipping charges, handling time, return rules, dispute procedures and any limits on refunds or claims. Keep questions and answers in writing on the marketplace when possible.

Compare listings across more than price. A useful comparison includes:

| Edition and completeness | Is it the edition and platform you want? Are the listed components present? |
| Condition and evidence | Is it sealed, opened or used? Do actual-item photos show the condition and contents? |
| Seller confidence | Does recent feedback and relevant history support confidence? Are answers clear and in writing? |
| Total cost and fulfillment | What is the item price plus shipping? Where is it shipping from, when will it be handled, and is tracking offered? |
| Recourse | What returns, buyer-protection process and claim deadlines apply to this transaction and payment method? |
A very low price for an expensive item can be a warning sign, according to the FTC, but it is not proof of fraud. Conversely, a high price or polished listing does not establish authenticity or completeness.

4. Keep payment and communication protected
Pay through the marketplace’s supported checkout, or another method only if you have confirmed that its protections apply to this transaction. The FTC warns that paying outside a marketplace’s payment system can cost you the marketplace’s protection. Do not move payment off-platform in exchange for a lower price. Save the listing, its photos, seller messages and your payment record.
Protection depends on the marketplace, payment method, buyer location and transaction terms. Check the rules that apply to your purchase rather than assuming that a marketplace name alone guarantees a refund.

5. Understand what marketplace authenticity policies do—and do not—mean
For example, eBay’s counterfeit item policy prohibits counterfeit goods and unauthorized copies, including bootleg or self-made game recordings. It says sellers should list items only if they are certain the items are genuine and gives documentation such as brand or authorized-distributor invoices as examples of authenticity proof.
That is a platform rule and a possible basis for reporting a concern. It does not establish that eBay independently inspected or authenticated every listing, nor does it promise a refund in every case. The cited sources do not establish an independent resale authentication service for LRG releases.

6. Inspect the delivery and act within the applicable deadline
When the item arrives, compare it promptly with the saved listing and the seller’s written answers. If the platform’s return or claim process applies, use it within the deadline and provide the relevant records. Return and refund windows vary by marketplace and payment method, so check the terms before buying and note the deadline that applies to your transaction.
LRG’s own direct-order policy is separate from an independent resale purchase: its FAQ says requests for returns or exchanges may be made within 30 days of delivery, subject to case-by-case review, and items with an emailed digital key cannot be returned. For a resale transaction, the seller’s and marketplace’s terms govern; do not assume LRG’s direct-order policy covers a purchase from a reseller.
7. Do not confuse LRG preorder timing with resale delivery
LRG says its products are “bespoke and manufactured to demand.” Its FAQ gives general production and shipping estimates of within four months for standard-edition games and up to ten months for Collector’s Editions, depending on complexity; it also directs customers to product and account pages for specific estimates. Those broad estimates describe LRG orders, not the delivery date for an item bought from a reseller. Check the live listing’s handling time, shipping details and tracking instead.
