You can build a Bluehost website through WordPress AI Builder onboarding, Bluehost’s separate AI Website Builder, AI Store for ecommerce, or a manual WordPress or compatible third-party setup. These are four documented routes—not four independently tested methods. Choose based on what the site needs to do and how much control you want over its tools and setup.

Choose the Bluehost route that fits your site

Bluehost identifies WordPress as its primary website platform, while also documenting a separate AI Website Builder and an AI Store flow. The key distinction is purpose: use AI Store when you need product listings and order management; for a non-commerce site, choose between WordPress and the separate builder based on how much you want to manage the underlying platform.

Route Best fit What the documented flow offers Publishing consideration
WordPress AI Builder onboarding A WordPress site with a guided design start Enter a site title or type and business description; review three generated designs; customize in WordPress or save and publish a design. Bluehost says the tool is included with its WordPress or Web Hosting plans. Check the current plan terms.
Separate AI Website Builder A non-commerce blog, portfolio, business, or informational site Describe the project, optionally add up to three images and one reference URL, then edit with drag-and-drop controls or AI chat prompts. Bluehost’s help flow says publishing requires upgrading to the Get Online plan. Trial terms may change.
AI Store An online store Use a store dashboard to add and manage products, process orders, and configure store settings. Choose the Sell Online/AI Store path and review the current paid-plan terms before proceeding.
Manual WordPress or compatible third-party tools A site where you already know the platform, theme, or development stack you want Build with WordPress themes and plugins or use a compatible third-party builder or development tool. You are responsible for selecting and maintaining tools compatible with the hosting environment.

Bluehost’s documentation describes these workflows, but does not establish comparative performance results. The right choice is therefore a fit decision, not a proven ranking.

What you need before building

Bluehost Help describes the basic sequence as choosing a domain, selecting a hosting plan, building the site, and launching it. A domain is the website’s address; hosting is where its files are stored and made available online. Before paying, check the current billing term, renewal price, domain conditions, and any add-ons.

  • Decide whether the site is a blog, business or portfolio site, informational site, or ecommerce store.
  • Prepare a short description of the site, its audience, and what visitors should do.
  • Gather a logo and relevant images if you have them; the separate AI Website Builder flow allows up to three images and one reference URL.
  • Know whether you need WordPress themes and plugins, a guided builder, store management, or a particular third-party tool.

Method 1: Start a WordPress site with AI Builder onboarding

This is the documented route for people who want WordPress and a generated starting design rather than a blank canvas. Bluehost says its WordPress AI Builder is included with WordPress or Web Hosting plans.

  1. Choose a Bluehost WordPress or Web Hosting plan and begin the WordPress website creation flow.
  2. Enter the site title or type and describe the business, brand, or project. Add a logo if you want one.
  3. Review the three generated WordPress website designs and select a starting point.
  4. Customize the design in WordPress, or save and publish the selected layout.

Generated designs are starting points: review the text, images, navigation, and page content before making the site public. Bluehost’s product page displayed a Starter offer at $3.99 per month for a 36-month term, renewing at $9.99 per month, when accessed October 7, 2026. The displayed price is tied to that term and can change. The page also lists a first-year domain and notes that it renews at the then-current rate; retaining a free domain may incur a non-refundable domain fee in some refund circumstances. Confirm the current offer and terms on the Bluehost WordPress AI Builder page before checkout.

Method 2: Use Bluehost’s separate AI Website Builder for a non-store site

This is a distinct builder flow, not the WordPress AI Builder onboarding above. Bluehost documents it for blogs, portfolios, business sites, and informational sites. You describe the project, optionally provide reference material, then refine the generated site through visual controls or prompts.

  1. Open Bluehost’s AI Website Builder flow and describe your business, brand, or project.
  2. Optionally upload up to three images and provide one reference URL.
  3. Generate the site, then adjust its layout and content using drag-and-drop controls or AI chat prompts.
  4. Review the publishing requirement: Bluehost’s help page says you must upgrade to the Get Online plan to publish through this flow.

A Bluehost blog post updated September 15, 2026 advertised a 14-day trial without a credit card. Trial availability and terms are volatile, so verify the live offer rather than relying on that dated announcement. See Bluehost’s AI Website Builder help page for the workflow and its dated announcement for the trial claim.

Method 3: Choose AI Store for ecommerce

If visitors need to browse products, place orders, and interact with a store dashboard, choose Bluehost’s Sell Online/AI Store path rather than the non-commerce AI Website Builder. Bluehost’s documentation says the store dashboard supports adding and managing products, processing orders, and configuring store settings.

  1. Select the Sell Online or AI Store path in Bluehost’s website creation flow.
  2. Set up the store and add product information through its dashboard.
  3. Configure store settings and review the order workflow before launch.
  4. Check the plan’s current billing and renewal terms before completing purchase.

Bluehost documents the store path and its management functions; it does not provide independent evidence here about store performance or sales outcomes. The distinction is practical: use a store-oriented setup when you need ecommerce operations, not merely because a generated design looks suitable. See Bluehost’s direct-to-paid setup guide.

Method 4: Build manually with WordPress or compatible tools

A manual setup suits people who already know the stack they want, are migrating an existing site, prefer a particular framework, or are working with a developer. Bluehost points to WordPress themes and plugins as customization options and says customers may use third-party builders or development tools. It advises checking that those tools are compatible with the hosting environment.

  1. Choose a hosting plan appropriate to the site and confirm that the software or tools you intend to use are compatible.
  2. Set up WordPress or the chosen third-party tool, then select a theme or establish the design and page structure.
  3. Add the site’s content and functionality, checking how the tools interact with the hosting environment.
  4. Review the finished site and its maintenance needs before launch.

This route offers more choice, but also leaves more decisions and ongoing tool maintenance to you. Bluehost’s overview of getting started is at How to Start a Website with Bluehost Hosting.

Publish and review the site

Whichever path you select, treat publishing as a checkpoint rather than the finish line. Confirm that the domain points to the intended site, that pages and links work, and that the site is ready for visitors. Then address security and optimization appropriate to your setup. If you used the separate AI Website Builder trial flow, verify that the required publishing upgrade is active before expecting the site to go live.

  • Check that page text, images, contact details, and navigation are accurate.
  • Test key actions, such as contact forms or—in a store—product and order flows.
  • Review the hosting plan, renewal amount, domain renewal conditions, and add-ons shown at checkout.
  • For WordPress or third-party tools, make a plan to keep the platform, themes, plugins, and other components maintained.
