A tidy gaming setup starts with a desk that fits both your room and your gear. Measure the available floor space, screen and PC dimensions, and cable reach first; then use the desk’s rear gap, cable net, or tray to route leads below the surface. Bundle related cables and anchor frequently moved leads so they stay out of the play area.
Choose a desk that fits your room and equipment
Compare the usable desktop depth and footprint—not just whether a desk is marketed for gaming. Check its height, built-in cable storage, supported loads, and the space available for your screens and PC tower. These examples reflect IKEA’s US listings; assortment, specifications, stock, prices, and ratings can vary by location and change over time.

Plan the layout before routing cables
- Choose the desk and tower positions. Leave room for plugs, airflow, and access to the PC. Measure the tower and compare it with the desk’s stated limits; for UTVISNING, use IKEA’s maximum tower dimensions and shelf-load rating.
- Place screens and active gear. Arrange monitors, computer or console, keyboard, and controller where you will use them. If using a monitor arm, check that the desk supports the clamp and that the arm can move without pulling cables taut.
- Position the power strip. Decide where it can sit under the desk or near the rear cable route, with enough clearance for plugs and the power-strip switch. Keep cables within reach of outlets without stretching them.
- Allow slack at moving devices. Leave a service loop for an adjustable monitor arm and enough cable for a keyboard or controller to move naturally. Keep excess slack away from feet, chair wheels, and ventilation openings.
Route power and signal cables below the desktop

Bundle and anchor loose leads
- Group related cables—such as monitor leads or peripherals—into separate bundles with reusable ties. Leave enough slack at each device end for movement and servicing.
- Use clips or holders to keep frequently handled cables, such as a controller charging lead, from falling behind the desk or crossing the keyboard area.
- Use a cable box only where it fits without blocking ventilation or making the power strip hard to reach.
- Keep bundles loose enough that cables are not sharply bent or pulled at their connectors.

Free desktop space without crowding the setup

Do a final fit and cable check

- Verify that the tower has ventilation and that cables do not obstruct vents, chair movement, or access to controls.
- Make sure an added tray is firmly compatible with the desk edge and leaves plugs, switches, and adjustment mechanisms accessible.
- After moving the desk or changing equipment, inspect the cable routes again for pinched leads or loosened ties.
