Use prerendered static output for pages that can be refreshed through builds; use server-side rendering (SSR) for request-time content or output. Angular supports both approaches, as well as client-side rendering (CSR), and lets you configure rendering by route. Static output does not need a Node.js rendering server at runtime, while SSR needs a compatible server or serverless request handler.
Choose how each Angular route should render
Angular’s hybrid-rendering guide says that “Angular ships all applications as client-side rendered (CSR) by default.” CSR sends the application to the browser, where JavaScript renders the page. Angular also supports prerendering, or static site generation (SSG), which creates HTML at build time, and SSR, which generates HTML for a request and then hydrates the application in the browser. The distinction matters: prerendered content reflects what was available when the build ran; SSR can produce output using request-time data.
Angular supports route-level rendering modes, so an application can use different strategies for different routes rather than making every page behave identically. The right choice depends on freshness, personalization, and deployment requirements—not simply whether the application uses a CMS.
| Rendering mode | When it fits | Runtime consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Prerendering (SSG) | Public pages whose content can be refreshed through a rebuild. | Angular can generate static HTML that can be served without a Node.js rendering server. |
| Server-side rendering (SSR) | Pages that need request-time data or request-specific output. | Requires a compatible server or serverless request handler. Confirm runtime and request/response constraints in the host’s own documentation. |
| Client-side rendering (CSR) | Routes where content need not be present in the initial HTML and browser rendering is acceptable. | The browser executes JavaScript to render the application. Angular notes that crawlers may have limits executing JavaScript, so do not assume a particular search outcome. |
Angular’s hybrid-rendering guide describes the rendering modes, route configuration, and static output. Its SSR guide explains server-rendered HTML and hydration.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Plan the CMS integration before wiring up routes
Angular provides rendering capabilities, not a universal CMS connector. Select a CMS and use its documented content API and authentication guidance; the implementation depends on that vendor’s API and your chosen hosting provider.
- Content model and routes: Decide which CMS fields map to which page types, how content slugs become Angular routes, and what should happen when a slug has no published entry.
- Public and privileged access: Separate content safe to expose to browsers from credentials or operations that require trusted server-side access. Never put secret credentials in browser-delivered code; check the selected CMS’s official authentication guidance.
- Draft preview: Define how editors can view unpublished content without exposing drafts to public routes. Use the CMS’s documented preview and access-control mechanisms.
- Freshness and invalidation: Decide how publishing a change triggers a rebuild for prerendered pages, or how SSR and host/CDN caches are refreshed. Confirm actual cache behavior and invalidation support with both vendors.
- Failures: Plan for unavailable CMS responses, missing content, and invalid data. Choose appropriate user-facing error or not-found behavior and avoid treating a failed content request as a successful empty page.
Enable Angular server and hybrid rendering
For an existing Angular application, Angular documents adding SSR with ng add @angular/ssr. For a new application, its CLI supports ng new --ssr. Configure server routes to select prerendering, SSR, or CSR according to the route plan. Angular’s provideServerRendering API reference documents server-rendering providers and route features.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Angular’s SSR guide demonstrates an Express application and notes that the exported app can be used by serverless functions. That establishes a framework-level option, not a ready-made deployment recipe for every serverless provider. Before choosing a host, verify its supported runtime, request and response behavior, build artifact layout, and limits in that provider’s current documentation.
Connect the CMS and decide how updates reach users
Use the CMS’s documented API to retrieve the content needed for each page, then connect that data to the routes and rendering modes you configured. Keep the distinction between public content retrieval and privileged operations explicit: a build process or trusted server handler may have access that a visitor’s browser must not have.

For prerendered routes, decide which CMS publishing events trigger a new build and how long a previous build may remain live. For SSR routes, decide whether CMS responses or rendered pages are cached and how a content update invalidates those caches. For preview, use a controlled path that retrieves draft content without making it available to ordinary public requests. These details are CMS- and host-specific; consult their official documentation rather than assuming Angular configures them automatically.

- Map the routes. Identify representative editorial, interactive, and user-specific routes. Assign each a rendering mode based on whether its HTML can be fixed at build time or needs request-time data.
- Enable rendering. Run
ng add @angular/ssrin an existing project or create a new project withng new --ssr, then configure server routes for the intended modes. - Integrate and test content behavior. Use the selected CMS’s API guidance. Exercise published content, preview access, missing slugs, failed API responses, and the update path after publication.
- Inspect the build output. For static deployment, serve the generated files. For SSR, configure the host-specific serverless handler and verify that its runtime can execute the generated server output.
- Test direct requests and hydration. Request representative routes directly, inspect the returned HTML for expected content, and check that the browser hydrates the page and its interactive behavior works.
- Set cache policies deliberately. Check policies for static assets, rendered pages, and CMS responses, including how publication changes invalidate stale content.
Angular’s docs cover framework rendering and show an Express-based SSR example; they do not establish the deployment procedure for a particular provider or integration package. Follow the host’s current deployment guide for the final artifact and handler configuration.
