Build a monthly calendar as an editorial plan and operations schedule—not as a YouTube Studio feature that automatically rotates a 24/7 playlist. Choose a sustainable programming rhythm, map themes and specific videos into the month, then use YouTube Studio to schedule individual live events and reminders. Add the people, checks, and handoffs needed to keep the stream running and review the plan at month’s end.
What a monthly calendar does—and does not do
A calendar helps you decide what viewers should hear or see, when programs change, who is responsible, and how the stream will be checked. YouTube’s guidance covers creator schedule planning and the creation of individual scheduled livestreams; it does not document a native monthly calendar that automatically schedules a 24/7 playlist rotation. Treat your calendar as the planning source of truth, and use Studio and your encoder to implement each event or transition.
YouTube Help advises creators to consider frequency, consistency, format or content type, changes over the previous six months, and whether ended livestreams remain public. Decide what repeats
Start with the questions YouTube suggests: How often will you go live per week or month? Is there a format or content type you plan to stream regularly? For a 24/7 channel, translate those questions into repeatable blocks: for example, a morning theme, an evening program, or a particular day for a new playlist. A repeatable pattern is easier to explain to viewers and maintain than a calendar built around constant one-off changes.

Check capacity before filling dates
Estimate how many recordings you can prepare, review for rights, label, and test each month. Include time for replacing unavailable videos, checking transitions, monitoring playback, and handling stream interruptions. If the people or content are not available for a proposed schedule, reduce the number of changes rather than relying on an unsustainable pace.
Set the archive expectation
Decide whether ended events should remain public, become unlisted, or be removed, and note the choice in the plan. YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its cited guidance does not establish that every longer stream will be archived or that one event can run indefinitely. For overnight or month-long continuity, verify current Studio behavior and the limits of your encoder workflow before promising an archive or an uninterrupted single event. Build the month in three layers
- Mark recurring program blocks. Put the recurring themes, formats, or events on the dates and dayparts where they belong. Record the time zone explicitly and account for daylight-saving changes if relevant to your audience or team.
- Assign actual videos or playlist segments. Name each intended source precisely, note its planned order and transition, and record who has checked its rights. Do not treat a calendar label such as “music mix” as a substitute for identifying the actual content.
- Schedule and announce individual live events. For each event that needs a scheduled watch page, create or schedule it in YouTube Studio, then publish or promote its date and time. A scheduled stream can appear as upcoming, and viewers can choose “Notify me.”
This layered workflow is an editorial method, not a claim that Studio provides a monthly playlist-calendar control. YouTube lets creators reuse settings from a prior event or create a new stream; when reusing settings, check the copied metadata and stream key rather than assuming every detail is right for the new event. Schedule events and prepare the encoder
Know which streaming mode fits
YouTube describes mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming. An encoder is the mode intended for external audio/video equipment and more advanced productions; encoders can be software or standalone hardware. Choose based on your production and operating needs rather than assuming one specific encoder is best. Create the scheduled stream in Studio
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a livestream. Review the title, description, visibility, and event time before saving.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the event’s Live Control Room into the encoder. Keep the key private; if you reuse prior stream settings, verify the copied key and event details.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that the expected video and audio are present and that the correct event is selected.
- Go live at the planned time and check that the event can be reached from the channel or watch page, including on a mobile device.

Put operational checks on the calendar
- At least two hours before the event: YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead.
- At least 15 minutes before the event: start the encoder, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the livestream.
- Before the event: test encoder failover where available, check that any local archive file is growing, and confirm the event is reachable from channel and watch pages and on mobile.
- During the event: assign someone to monitor audio and video quality continuously and note the response path if the stream fails or playback changes unexpectedly.
- After a transition or event: follow the planned end procedure and verify the archive’s visibility choice.

Check live-stream access early
YouTube’s cited eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Enabling livestreaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. These are platform rules that can change, so check YouTube’s current help before building a launch date around them. Record rights status for every source
Include a rights-status field for each video or playlist segment, and resolve questions before scheduling it. A scheduled event and a continuous playlist do not remove the need to comply with YouTube’s copyright rules. Do not assume that owning a recording, finding it online, or having used it before means it is cleared for a live broadcast.
Use clear event details
Give each scheduled event an accurate title and description so viewers can recognize what is planned. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery except when content is commonly misspelled, so do not spend calendar-planning time treating tags as a substitute for clear programming and event information. Review the calendar every month
At month-end, compare the production effort and cost with audience response and revenue, then decide which blocks to keep, change, or stop. YouTube identifies RPM as a useful metric for creators reviewing performance, but the cited guidance provides no universal target or benchmark. Check whether the actual workload matched the plan, whether viewers were told about changes, and whether ended streams were handled as intended. Carry only workable changes into the next month.
