1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo build a local AI development workstation around GIGABYTE’s B850 AI TOP, choose the CPU, GPU, memory, storage, power supply and cooling for the models and software you intend to run—then verify every part against the exact motherboard revision and its current support documents. The B850 AI TOP is a motherboard; GIGABYTE’s AI TOP 100 B850 is a complete desktop PC built around a related platform. Its listed parts are a reference configuration, not a minimum specification for every DIY workstation.
First, distinguish the motherboard from the complete AI TOP PC
GIGABYTE uses two similar names for different products. The AI TOP 100 B850 is a complete system, listed under variants AT1A9N9-5100 and AT1A9A7-5101. The B850 AI TOP is the motherboard you can use as the foundation for a custom build. Confirm the name and revision printed on the board or box before choosing parts: support lists, BIOS files and compatibility details can be revision-specific.
GIGABYTE’s system page lists an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, either one GeForce RTX 5090 or two Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPUs, 128GB DDR5, a 2TB SSD, 240mm liquid CPU cooling and a 1600W 80 PLUS Platinum power supply. It lists Windows 11 Pro and Linux support, while noting that regional configurations may vary. Treat these as the manufacturer’s example system configuration—not a checklist every workstation must match.
Plan the workload before buying parts
Start with the models, framework and development tasks you expect to use. A workstation for experimenting with a single-GPU inference workflow has different priorities from one intended to fine-tune models or run memory-intensive work across two cards. Record the target model and quantization, the software framework and driver support it requires, and the GPU memory it needs. Then check whether the specific software can use multiple GPUs as you expect; do not assume that two cards automatically pool their memory for every model or application.

GIGABYTE presents a single RTX 5090 configuration for broad AI framework support and content creation, and a dual Radeon AI PRO R9700 configuration for larger, memory-intensive models. Those are options to evaluate against your actual software and budget, not proof that one setup is always faster or more capable.
| GPU path | GIGABYTE’s stated positioning | What to verify for your build |
|---|---|---|
| One GeForce RTX 5090 | Broad AI framework support and content creation, according to GIGABYTE’s AI TOP 100 B850 page. | Target framework and driver support, model memory needs, card dimensions, power connections, PSU capacity and cooling. |
| Two Radeon AI PRO R9700 cards | Larger models and memory-intensive workloads, according to GIGABYTE’s AI TOP 100 B850 page. | Multi-GPU software behavior, each card’s memory requirements, slot allocation and spacing, physical clearance, power connections, total power and cooling. |
GIGABYTE publishes a 110B fine-tune model-size figure without specifying the year on the product page. It also reports inference on a 235B model using dual Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPUs and Qwen3-235B-A22B FP4, and 65 tokens per second for Qwen3 32B FP4 on a GeForce RTX 5090. GIGABYTE attributes these figures to internal testing and says actual performance may vary; they are vendor results, not independently reproduced benchmarks. Use them as context for the configurations GIGABYTE describes, not as a guarantee for a different model, quantization, software stack or build.

Choose the CPU, memory and storage
CPU and motherboard
The B850 AI TOP manual lists support for AMD AM5 Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 series processors. Before ordering a CPU, check the current support list for the exact board revision and the BIOS requirements for that processor. The processor choice also matters to memory behavior and the motherboard’s PCIe lane configuration.
DDR5 memory
The manual lists four DDR5 DIMM sockets and a maximum capacity of 256GB. GIGABYTE’s complete AI TOP 100 B850 system lists 128GB, but that is the system’s configuration, not the board’s stated maximum. Supported memory speed, module count and memory type depend on the CPU and DIMM configuration. Check the current memory support list for the exact board revision and kit before buying; do not assume that a kit’s advertised top speed will apply in every population.

- Connectivity: PCIe 5.0, 3x M.2 Slots, USB-C, Sensor Panel Link
M.2 storage
The complete system page specifies a 2TB SSD. The motherboard manual’s block diagram shows two CPU-attached M.2 connections and one chipset-connected M.2 connection. That does not establish that all three can be populated without restrictions or that every slot supports the same drive and speed. Consult the full manual for drive support and any slot-sharing rules before selecting an M.2 NVMe SSD or installing drives in every socket.
Check PCIe lanes, case clearance, power and cooling
Do not assume a dual-GPU setup gives each card an x16 connection. The manual’s block diagram shows CPU-connected PCIe slots and lane modes that depend on the CPU. Check the exact manual’s slot allocation for your processor and intended card arrangement before purchasing. Also compare the cards’ dimensions with the case, confirm that both can fit with adequate airflow, and verify PSU capacity and the required power connections for the exact GPU models. The complete system’s 1600W supply is one manufacturer configuration, not a universal DIY requirement.

Account for CPU cooling and the heat produced by the GPUs as well as whether the case can accommodate the chosen cooler and cards. GIGABYTE’s system listing includes a 240mm liquid CPU cooler; a custom build should use a cooler and case arrangement compatible with its own CPU, case and airflow needs. The board’s dual 10GbE and Wi-Fi 7 are listed in its manual if wired network speed or wireless connectivity matters to your setup.
Assemble and set up the workstation
- Identify the board revision. Read the revision printed on the motherboard or box and open that revision’s official CPU support list, memory support list, manual and BIOS release notes. GIGABYTE’s B850 AI TOP (Rev. 1.0) support page is one revision’s support page; use the matching page for the board you actually have.
- Finalize the parts list. Confirm CPU and BIOS compatibility, DIMM kit and population, storage support and sharing, PCIe slot allocation, card and cooler clearance, and PSU capacity and connectors against the relevant manufacturers’ documentation.
- Build to the component instructions. Install the CPU, cooler, memory, storage and GPU or GPUs according to the motherboard and component manuals. Follow the board manual for slot placement and connections rather than inferring the arrangement from a complete-system photo or a different revision.
- Check BIOS needs before updating. Update only if your configuration requires it or the current release notes give you a reason. BIOS listings change: the Rev. 1.0 support page reviewed for this article listed F13c dated July 21, 2026, which should not be read as a permanently current recommendation. GIGABYTE warns that flashing BIOS carries risk; follow the current official instructions for your exact board revision.
- Install the operating system and drivers. GIGABYTE lists Windows 11 Pro and Linux support for the complete system. After installing an OS suitable for your workflow, use current chipset and GPU drivers, then install your chosen AI framework and model tools using their own documentation. Exact steps vary by OS, GPU and software combination.
- Validate the software path with your target workload. Confirm that the framework detects the intended GPU or GPUs and that the selected model and quantization fit the available resources. GIGABYTE describes AI TOP Utility as supporting model setup, training workflows, dataset creation, preset strategies, progress monitoring and memory offloading; consult its current documentation for availability and compatibility with your OS and GPU configuration.
Understand what “local” means for privacy and cost
Running models on your own workstation can give you control over where computation happens, but it does not by itself prove that every part of a workflow stays on the machine. GIGABYTE cautions that network access, APIs or third-party services may transmit data externally, and software requirements vary. Check the data-handling behavior of each framework, model tool and service you enable before using sensitive material. Likewise, local hardware does not guarantee that every workflow is free of recurring fees; that depends on the software and services you choose.
