To keep furniture showroom tours live on YouTube around the clock, choose either a live camera feed or a loop of tour footage you own or are authorized to use, configure an encoder in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, and plan for monitoring, stream interruptions, and recording. YouTube does not automatically archive streams that run longer than 12 hours, so continuous availability and permanent recording need separate plans.
Choose what your 24/7 stream will show
A continuous stream can mean a staffed walkthrough, a fixed camera view, or a rotation of prerecorded tours. These approaches differ in how current the footage feels and how much ongoing operation they require; none is a guaranteed sales driver.

YouTube’s encoder directory lists OBS Studio, AJA HELO Plus, and Gyre as examples of compatible approaches. YouTube describes OBS as free, open-source software; AJA HELO Plus as a standalone hardware encoder with scheduled prerecorded-media support; and Gyre as a cloud service for continuous prerecorded streams. Use footage and audio you can broadcast
Film the showroom and products yourself or obtain permission to use the footage. Check music, staff or customer voices, artwork, signage, and other third-party material that may appear or be heard. YouTube requires livestreams to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Do not assume that a silent showroom is automatically risk-free or that buying a music track gives you livestream rights.

Plan shots for people shopping remotely
For a sales-oriented tour, include wide views that show room layout and closer views that let viewers examine individual pieces. Consider adding readable product names, dimensions, and prices, with item links through YouTube surfaces where appropriate. These are practical choices for a furniture tour, not platform requirements. If you also plan a vertical version, test how the furniture fits a center crop before going live.
Enable live streaming and create the YouTube stream
- Check channel readiness. Use a verified channel with live streaming enabled. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable it ahead of your planned launch.
- Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create or schedule a stream, then set its title, description, visibility, and other metadata.
- Choose the key and server address. Select a reusable or custom stream key and copy the server URL and key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream. Keep it private and reset it if it is exposed.
- Follow the selected launch flow. For a scheduled stream, wait for the encoder preview in Live Control Room and select Go live. For an immediate-start flow, start the encoder as directed by the control room. Follow the instructions displayed for your particular setup.
YouTube’s encoder setup and live-streaming guidance is available in its encoder guide. Select public, unlisted, or private visibility deliberately. Scheduling can provide a shareable upcoming watch page and reminders. If chat is open, assign someone to moderation and define how questions will be handled.

Set encoder quality and test a representative tour
Match the video settings to your upload connection
Run an upload-speed test and choose a quality your connection can sustain. YouTube’s current settings guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. The 10 Mbps recommended figure at 1080p30 applies to AV1/H.265, not H.264. Use the figure for the codec you actually select; these are encoder settings, not promised viewing quality or business results.

Use YouTube’s live encoder settings as the reference for the selected codec and resolution. Prefer constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.

Use RTMPS where the encoder supports it
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts RTMP traffic over TLS/SSL. In Live Control Room, reveal the RTMPS server URL and enter it in an encoder that supports the protocol. If your encoder only supports RTMP, consult its documentation rather than assuming the connection is encrypted. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.
Test motion, sound, and stream health
Test before the public stream using movement and audio similar to the real tour. A static test image will not reveal problems caused by slow pans, close-ups, lighting changes, or microphone conditions. YouTube’s guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Watch Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators and review messages during operation. If movement looks choppy, audio clips, or health warnings appear, fix the source or settings and test again before relying on the feed.

Plan for an unattended stream and recording
Make responsibilities and recovery explicit
A 24/7 stream is not a set-and-forget guarantee. Assign someone to check stream health and handle chat or moderation, and decide who will respond if power, internet, the encoder, or camera fails. Test your restart procedure rather than assuming the equipment will recover. Wired networking and backup power may help, but the right capacity and hardware depend on the showroom; YouTube’s guidance does not specify a setup for a particular site.

Do not rely on YouTube to archive a stream longer than 12 hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours is not automatically archived under its stated behavior. If you need a lasting recording, arrange a local or separate recording workflow, or divide the broadcast into manageable segments with a planned handoff and restart. Verify YouTube’s current behavior before relying on a workaround.
Choose audience format and understand policy limits
YouTube supports horizontal and vertical live formats in its current Live Control Room flow. Vertical video is center-cropped by default, with layout adjustments available before or during a stream; it cannot be added after the stream has started. A crop that works for a single chair may cut off room context or nearby furniture, so review framing before enabling dual output. YouTube also describes differences between vertical and horizontal streams, including link and ad-feature availability; check the current vertical live-stream guidance before settling on a format.
All live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Monetization is conditional: YouTube says channels in the YouTube Partner Program may monetize live streams, and availability of ads, Super Chat, and memberships depends on channel eligibility and feature access. YouTube reviews YPP applicants against its monetization policies. Continuous streaming alone does not establish eligibility or a particular level of earnings.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: Check channel verification and live-stream enablement. If this is the channel’s first time going live, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- The encoder will not connect: Confirm that the server URL and stream key match the stream in Live Control Room. Check that the key has not been reset, that the encoder supports the selected protocol, and that RTMPS is selected if you intend to use it.
- The stream is unstable or shows health warnings: Run an upload-speed test, reduce quality if the connection cannot sustain it, and check the encoder’s bitrate and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current codec-specific settings.
- The image or sound fails during a tour: Repeat the test with camera movement, close-ups, changing light, and the actual microphone setup. Correct the source or encoder settings before going live again.
- Vertical framing cuts off furniture: Review the center crop and adjust the available layout before or during the stream. You cannot add vertical output after the stream has started.
- A long stream has no automatic archive: A stream longer than 12 hours is outside YouTube’s stated automatic-archive behavior. Use separate recording or a planned segment handoff if you need to retain footage.
- The stream ends after an outage: Check the power, internet, camera, and encoder, then follow the assigned restart procedure. Test recovery in advance; auto-start and auto-stop controls do not replace operational monitoring.
