You can run a Bollywood-oldies radio-style stream on YouTube by sending a prepared audio-and-visual programme through an encoder to YouTube Live. The critical first step is not choosing an encoder: it is securing the rights to every recording and composition for livestreaming in the territories where viewers can watch. A song you can play or buy for personal listening is not automatically cleared for a public broadcast.
Can you run a YouTube radio station with Bollywood songs?
Technically, yes: YouTube Live accepts streams sent from an encoder using a stream URL and stream key. But technical access is separate from permission to broadcast the music. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to obtain all necessary rights for live content, including applicable music rights.
For Bollywood oldies, do not assume one blanket permission covers every version of a song. Rights may differ between the sound recording and the underlying composition, and by territory, duration, and intended use. YouTube’s platform guidance does not identify the rights holder or licensing route for a particular song. Confirm the exact catalogue and intended territories with the relevant rights holders or qualified licensing advisers before scheduling the broadcast.

Confirm what your permission covers
For each track, establish that your permission covers public livestreaming on YouTube in the territories where the stream will be available. If you plan to leave a replay or archive on the channel, confirm that the grant also covers that use and its duration. Keep written permissions and approvals accessible while the stream is running.

Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder image or temporarily interrupt or terminate it. Even when you have licensed a track, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm this with the owner where applicable; a stream that has not yet been interrupted is not proof that its music is cleared.
YouTube says Content ID claims on an archived stream are made after the live broadcast ends if the creator archives it. That later check is another reason to settle both live and replay permissions before going on air.

Set up the continuous YouTube broadcast
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s general livestreaming guidance says the channel must have no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days and gives a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Check the current channel status and applicable account requirements before planning a launch.
- Prepare a continuous programme. Assemble the audio programme and a visual component, such as a station identity screen or track information. Use visuals you have permission to broadcast as well. Make sure the programme can continue without relying on someone manually advancing each song.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- Configure an encoder. Enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in your encoder, then connect the prepared programme as its input. YouTube documents software encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events; hardware is optional, not a prerequisite for a basic radio-style stream.
- Check the preview, then go live. Confirm that the picture and sound are present in YouTube’s preview before starting the broadcast. Monitor the live output for matching-content warnings, interruptions, and audio or visual failures.
- Keep records and a local recording. Retain music permissions and any Content ID allowlisting confirmation. If an archive matters, record a local copy as a backup.
Choose software or hardware encoding

Neither route solves music clearance. Choose based on the production workflow, need for dedicated equipment, and how you will monitor and recover the stream—not on an assumption that one encoder makes copyrighted music safe.
Keep the stream continuous without losing the archive
YouTube says it can automatically archive a livestream that is less than 12 hours; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a usable YouTube replay is important, plan successive sessions shorter than 12 hours and start each next session deliberately. YouTube’s guidance does not promise an uninterrupted handoff between sessions, so keep a local recording if continuity of the archive matters.

Why a Bollywood livestream may be blocked or interrupted
- A Content ID match appears: YouTube scans live content, and a match can cause a placeholder image, interruption, or termination. Check the rights and contact the rights holder about channel allowlisting where you have a licence.
- A stream is interrupted despite permission: Licensing alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the owner has not allowlisted the channel. Confirm the allowlisting arrangement with the rights holder before broadcasting.
- An archive receives a claim: YouTube says claims on archived livestreams are made after the live stream ends. Verify that replay rights are included, and review the claim through YouTube’s available process.
- The stream stops or the audio or picture fails: Check the encoder’s connection to YouTube and its programme input, then confirm the preview and live output. Keep someone responsible for monitoring and restarting the broadcast if necessary.
Can a Bollywood oldies livestream earn money?
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live revenue features, subject to channel eligibility and applicable policies. Ads are not guaranteed to fill every slot, and livestreams remain subject to YouTube’s channel monetization policies. Having music rights does not guarantee monetization approval or income.

- Rights holders have confirmed any required Content ID allowlisting for your channel.
