You can simulcast an Indian-language internet radio station on YouTube by routing its program audio into an encoder, adding a visual, and sending the encoded feed to a YouTube Live broadcast. Your existing internet-radio service can continue separately. YouTube’s documented workflow uses a live audio/video encoder feed; it does not require a particular radio automation package or dedicated hardware encoder.

How the home-server-to-YouTube setup works

Your home server supplies the station’s program audio. An encoder packages that audio with video—often a static station image—and sends it to YouTube’s live ingest endpoint using the broadcast’s stream key. The YouTube stream is a simulcast, not a replacement for the station’s existing internet-radio endpoint.

The encoder can run on the home server if it has enough capacity, or on another computer or encoder receiving the station audio. YouTube’s setup guidance specifies compatible encoder output, not a required operating system, server model, or radio automation stack. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

Prepare the station, broadcast, and rights

Check the audio source and available capacity

  • Identify how the program audio reaches the encoder: directly from the station software or through an audio feed from another device. The exact routing depends on your station setup; no particular automation package is required by YouTube.
  • Check that the server or separate encoder can run continuously while also performing its other tasks. The available sources do not establish minimum hardware specifications, so do not assume a particular mini PC or server is required.
  • Make sure the home connection can sustain the encoder’s upload bitrate. Leave capacity for normal connection variation and other devices; choose a profile you can test reliably rather than treating a bitrate recommendation as a guarantee of stability.

Confirm music and broadcast rights before scheduling

YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to represent that it holds the necessary rights for exploitation of live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights, and has met applicable territory requirements. Whether a station’s existing Indian radio or internet-radio permissions cover YouTube depends on its repertoire, contracts, territories, and broadcast model; the reviewed sources do not establish that they do. Check the scope of your actual agreements and obtain advice for your circumstances. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace the image, warn you, interrupt or terminate a stream when it identifies content; a copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also lead to termination. A music license does not by itself prevent a live interruption if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Contact relevant rights holders before broadcasting to ask about allowlisting, and check Studio for stream status and restrictions. Details are in YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube’s Audio Library offers production music and sound effects for YouTube, and tracks under Creative Commons terms may require attribution. It is not blanket clearance for a station’s full catalogue or for use outside YouTube. See Audio Library guidance.

Create a YouTube Live broadcast and get its stream key

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio and open the live-stream creation flow. Create a broadcast or schedule one, following YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  2. In the broadcast’s stream settings, note the ingest URL and select or create a stream key for that broadcast. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the stream.
  3. Use the current URL and key shown for this specific broadcast. Do not copy example keys or rely on an old tutorial’s ingest address. Prefer the RTMPS option when it is available in your encoder.
  4. Choose the broadcast’s visibility and schedule to suit your test and launch plan. A private or unlisted test lets you check the feed before a public broadcast; confirm the audience and visibility settings in Studio before going live.

Configure the encoder for continuous radio

Route the program audio and add a visual

Set the encoder’s input to the station’s program audio, not an unrelated desktop or microphone source. Add a station logo, artwork, or now-playing card as the video layer. This static visual is a practical design choice for a radio simulcast, not a stated YouTube requirement. Check that any text, artwork, and song information render correctly and that the intended Indian-language script is legible.

Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Urdu, and other languages use the same documented ingest protocols and encoding settings. Use a consistent language in the broadcast title and description, and verify the audio source and graphics yourself. Do not assume that YouTube automatically translates speech or supplies captions unless you provide them.

Set compatible video and audio output

YouTube’s encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion; H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are platform recommendations, not a universal bitrate prescription for every video profile. Choose the applicable bitrate row in the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate table for your resolution, frame rate, and codec, then test that profile on your connection.

For a static radio image, a modest video profile may be sufficient, but select settings supported by your encoder and network. YouTube advises testing before the broadcast; its exact instruction is, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”

Use the broadcast’s secure ingest details

YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over an SSL/TLS connection. Google’s RTMPS documentation specifies the correct RTMPS ingestion endpoint and port 443. Configure the encoder with the current endpoint and key YouTube gives you for the broadcast, rather than a hard-coded address copied from another service or an old guide. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion documentation.

Test, go live, and monitor stream health

  1. Start the encoder with representative station audio and the intended visual before your planned public start. Use the private or unlisted test broadcast you prepared in Studio.
  2. Open YouTube Studio’s live control room and confirm the preview shows the expected visual and audio. Review any stream-health notices before making the broadcast public.
  3. Listen for silence, clipping, unwanted audio sources, or interruptions; check that the visual and any station text display as intended.
  4. When the feed is stable and rights checks are complete, start or publish the scheduled broadcast according to Studio’s controls.
  5. Keep an eye on Studio’s health indicators and messages while live. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents ingest details and health status, including issues such as low bitrate, mismatched frame rate, and missing audio: LiveStreams API reference.

How you stop or schedule the encoder depends on the station’s operating plan. If it is intended to be continuous, ensure the home server, encoder, audio route, and network remain available for the desired broadcast period; YouTube does not make the separate radio endpoint unnecessary.

Troubleshoot common problems

What you see Likely cause What to check
No preview or no connection The encoder is using the wrong ingest URL or stream key, or the broadcast/key pairing is wrong. Copy the current URL and key from that broadcast’s YouTube Studio stream settings and re-enter them in the encoder. Keep the key private.
Low bitrate or unstable health The selected output exceeds what the home connection can sustain, or upload capacity is varying. Check the encoder’s actual output bitrate and available upload capacity. Select a suitable profile from YouTube’s current table for the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec, then test again.
Frame-rate mismatch warning The encoder’s output frame rate does not match the configured or expected stream profile. Set and verify the encoder’s frame rate against the broadcast profile; check Studio’s health notices after reconnecting.
Picture arrives but audio is missing The wrong audio input is selected, the station route has stopped, or the encoder is not sending a supported audio stream. Check the program-audio route at its source and in the encoder, confirm AAC or MP3 output, and listen to the preview before publishing.
Live stream is interrupted or image changes YouTube may have detected third-party content, or a rights holder may not have allowlisted the channel. Review Studio notices, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting, and confirm your agreements cover YouTube live use and the relevant territories.
Station title or artwork displays incorrectly Text, graphics, or source metadata may not render with the intended script or layout. Preview the actual output using the intended Indian-language text and adjust the graphic or title before the public broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded recordings without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud option. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not take a live camera feed or replace the station’s separate internet-radio service.

  1. Upload a recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud.

Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. For this prerecorded-video workflow, start at StreamNeo’s free-day signup.
