To keep a Bengali online radio station live on YouTube, send its audio feed and a suitable visual to YouTube Live through an encoder. Use OBS Studio on a computer that stays on, or run FFmpeg on a VPS for a headless setup. In either case, create the stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with the stream URL and private stream key, confirm the preview, and make a plan for outages and music rights.
What you need before starting
- An eligible YouTube channel: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. YouTube says live streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A stable URL or other accessible source for the station’s audio.
- An encoder: OBS Studio for a graphical desktop workflow, or FFmpeg on a VPS for background operation.
- A visual to pair with the audio, such as station artwork or a looping video. Use assets the station owns or is permitted to use.
- Permission or another valid legal basis for every composition, recording, performance, and other third-party content you broadcast.
YouTube’s encoder workflow sends an audio-video feed, so plan a visual even if the station is audio-only. A microphone or other external audio hardware is optional if you are relaying an existing radio feed; it is useful only when adding live presenters or interviews.
Create the YouTube live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. If live streaming has not been enabled before, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create or schedule a stream. Enter a clear title and description, and choose the appropriate visibility setting.
- In the stream’s connection settings, copy the server URL and stream key for your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast.
- Configure and start your encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview and status. Confirm the audio is audible and the visual is correct before considering the broadcast live.
YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder covers the connection workflow and archive behavior.

Choose how to keep the feed running
| Approach | Best suited to | Tradeoffs |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio on a computer | A producer who wants to manage a visual scene through a graphical interface and can keep the computer running and supervised. | Visual setup is straightforward, but the machine, OBS session, power, and local internet connection need to remain available. |
| FFmpeg on a VPS | A technically capable operator who wants the encoder to run in the background rather than on a desktop. | Requires server configuration and troubleshooting. Restart behavior can be configured, but server, source, network, and platform failures can still interrupt the stream; hosting costs and availability vary. |
A practical RadioTech Studio guide published May 29, 2026 describes pairing radio audio with an image or looping video in OBS or FFmpeg. It is a how-to reference, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation. OBS’s Help Portal recommends its Auto-Configuration Wizard for basic settings and links to detailed x264 guidance. Use that wizard as a starting point rather than assuming one set of encoder settings suits every computer, feed, and connection.

OBS Studio: desktop workflow
- Install OBS Studio and run Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point for streaming settings.
- Add a visual source, such as an image of the station artwork or a permitted looping video. Arrange and preview the scene at the resolution you intend to send.
- Add or configure the station’s audio source. Check the mixer meters while audio is playing, then listen to the stream preview to catch silence, clipping, or an unintended desktop sound.
- In OBS’s stream settings, choose YouTube and enter the stream key from Live Control Room. If using a custom connection configuration, use the server URL and key supplied for that stream.
- Start streaming in OBS. Verify the incoming feed and audio in Live Control Room, then leave the computer, OBS session, and network connection running.
OBS’s exact source options depend on the operating system and how the station audio is delivered. If the audio is only available as a remote stream, use a supported media or audio input arrangement for that system and test it before scheduling the launch.
FFmpeg on a VPS: background workflow
FFmpeg can combine an accessible audio source with an image or looping video and send the resulting live feed to YouTube. The exact command depends on the VPS operating system, installed FFmpeg build, source format, and YouTube connection details. The practical guide above describes this arrangement, but the sources do not establish one universally safe command or encoding preset for every station. Configure the audio input, visual input, output format, and YouTube URL/key for your own environment, and test privately or with an unlisted stream first.

- Choose a VPS environment you can administer, install FFmpeg, and confirm it can access the station audio and visual files or URLs.
- Build and test the FFmpeg input/output configuration. Ensure the audio is continuous and the image or loop remains present in the encoded output.
- Use the stream URL and key from Live Control Room as the publishing destination. Keep credentials out of public scripts, repositories, and logs.
- Run the process under a service manager or another supervised background mechanism configured to restart it if the process exits. A restart configuration helps with process failures; it does not prevent source, network, server, or YouTube interruptions.
- Watch the Live Control Room status and listen to the live feed after launch. Keep an operator able to investigate failures and restart or reconfigure the encoder.
When the station has a separate interview or event
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a channel with a 24/7 feed and a separate broadcast for an interview that is part of that feed. This can be useful when a special segment needs its own watch page, but API-based automation is more complex than a basic encoder setup. See YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams, last updated September 14, 2026.

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is an option when you want 24/7 playback without keeping a home computer or connection running; it plays uploaded videos, not a live microphone or camera feed, so confirm that this fits the station’s workflow.

Keep the broadcast stable and recover from interruptions
No encoder arrangement guarantees an uninterrupted stream. The audio source, encoder, network, power, VPS, and YouTube can each be a point of failure. YouTube’s Live Control Room is the place to check whether it is receiving the feed.

- The MPC Production Experience - Includes MPC Beats Software complete with the essential production tools from Akai Professional
- Monitor the actual output: Check the Control Room status and listen to the stream, rather than relying only on an encoder window that says it is running.
- Plan for restarts: For FFmpeg, configure a supervised restart and keep instructions for manually restarting or updating the process. For OBS, make sure the computer is not set to sleep and that the session remains active.
- Protect access: Restrict who can see or change the stream key. If access is exposed, replace or reset the key in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Prepare an archive separately: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise automatic archiving for longer uninterrupted streams. If a dependable archive matters, record the program separately or use planned broadcast segments.
YouTube’s API documentation recognizes a 24/7 live feed, but this should not be read as a promise that any particular encoder or channel will remain connected without intervention.
Check music rights and YouTube rules
Having an online radio feed or a YouTube stream key does not grant rights to rebroadcast the station’s catalogue. Confirm that the station is entitled to stream each composition, sound recording, performance, and other third-party material to the territories where viewers may receive it. Which licences are necessary depends on the station’s location, repertoire, agreements, and audience territories; the available platform guidance cannot determine those obligations for a specific station.

Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The channel is not verified, has a recent live-streaming restriction, or first-time activation is still processing. | Review YouTube Studio channel eligibility and the live-streaming help page; allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| YouTube receives no feed | The encoder is stopped, the stream URL or key is wrong, or the VPS/computer has lost connectivity. | Check the encoder output and Live Control Room status; verify the connection details against the active stream. |
| Picture works but there is no sound | The wrong audio input is selected, the source is silent, or the encoder is not including that input. | Check the source itself, OBS mixer meters or FFmpeg inputs, and listen to the Control Room preview. |
| The stream stops when left unattended | A desktop slept or lost power/network, the encoder process exited, or the source stopped providing audio. | Disable sleep for a desktop setup; for a VPS, inspect process and source logs and confirm restart supervision is working. |
| The station cannot find a long broadcast archive | The uninterrupted stream exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive condition. | Keep a separate recording or divide the schedule into broadcast segments if archiving is required. |
| A music rights claim or restriction appears | A track or other content may not be covered by the station’s permissions, or a rights holder/platform policy has acted. | Review the notice and the station’s actual rights for the content and territory; do not assume an encoder change resolves a rights issue. |
