Benchmark your SaaS growth rate against private SaaS companies in a similar ARR range, using the same growth measure and period. There is no single rate that is “good” for every SaaS business: SaaS Capital’s 2025 survey found 2024 median growth ranging from 40% for companies below $1 million ARR to 20% for those above $10 million ARR. Treat those figures as survey comparisons, not targets or forecasts.

Define growth before choosing a benchmark

First decide what your number measures. The stage-specific figures in SaaS Capital’s 2025 report are year-over-year growth by annual recurring revenue (ARR) band. Compare your own year-over-year ARR growth with those figures only if you have calculated it on the same basis and over a comparable period. If you are measuring revenue growth instead, label it clearly rather than treating it as interchangeable with ARR growth.

Write down the measurement dates and definition alongside your result. A rate without its period and metric is not a useful comparison: two companies can report different-looking percentages simply because they measured different things or used different time windows.

Choose the ARR band that matches your company

SaaS Capital’s 2025 Research Brief 33 reports median year-over-year growth for 2024 by ARR band. The survey covered more than 1,000 private B2B SaaS companies. Use the row closest to your company’s ARR, and keep the report year visible when sharing the comparison.

ARR band 2024 median year-over-year growth
Below $1 million 40%
$1–3 million 28%
$3–5 million 24%
$5–10 million 24%
$10–20 million 20%
Above $20 million 20%

These medians show why a SaaS-wide number can mislead. SaaS Capital’s example: 25% growth was below the median for a $2 million ARR company but above the median for a $20 million ARR company. The same percentage can therefore signal different relative performance at different scales.

For the report details and its cohort definitions, see SaaS Capital’s 2025 growth benchmark report.

Interpret the median—and percentiles—correctly

The median describes the midpoint of the surveyed cohort: half of the reported companies were above it and half below it. It is a reference for typical performance in that sample, not a recommended goal, minimum acceptable rate, or forecast for your business.

Percentiles answer a different question: how a result compares with the distribution, including the high-performing end. SaaS Capital’s 2025 report says a $2 million ARR company needed more than 50% year-over-year growth to reach the top quartile, while the top-quartile threshold for a $20 million ARR company was 31%. Those thresholds are not universal success criteria; they vary with company size.

Keep the survey year and population attached to every figure

The stage-level numbers above describe 2024 growth, as reported in SaaS Capital’s 2025 study. A newer summary published in 2026 reports a 22% overall median growth rate for the 2025 survey, down from 25% in 2024. That survey covered more than 1,000 private B2B SaaS companies. The 2026 summary does not provide the detailed ARR-band medians shown in the 2025 report, so do not present its 22% overall figure as a newer stage-specific benchmark.

The 2026 summary also reports 20% median growth for bootstrapped companies and 25% for equity-backed companies in the 2025 results. Funding type is a useful additional comparison axis, but it does not replace matching by ARR. These figures describe survey cohorts, not the expected growth rate for an individual business. See SaaS Capital’s 2026 private B2B SaaS growth-rate summary.

Use a consistent peer set

ARR is the clearest supported way to align company stage in these benchmarks. SaaS Capital cautions that growth comparisons are relevant when businesses are similarly sized; it also notes that public-company comparisons may be apples-to-oranges for smaller private SaaS companies. Avoid mixing public-company data with a private-company survey as though the cohorts were directly equivalent.

The cited figures do not establish controls or cross-tabulations for geography, industry vertical, or business model. If those factors matter to your internal analysis, identify them as differences rather than implying the published figures account for them.

Add retention as a companion metric

Growth is more informative when viewed alongside net revenue retention (NRR), which reflects recurring revenue retained and expanded from existing customers. SaaS Capital’s 2025 report found an association between NRR and growth: companies in the 100%–110% NRR group had five percentage points higher growth than those in the 90%–100% group. The report describes a correlation; it does not establish that higher NRR caused the difference.

A practical benchmarking workflow

  1. Calculate your rate. Specify ARR or revenue growth, the start and end dates, and whether it is year-over-year.
  2. Select the closest ARR cohort. Use the corresponding 2024 median from the 2025 report, and record that the figure is a private B2B SaaS survey result.
  3. Compare like with like. Note relevant cohort differences, including funding type if available. Do not present public-company results as directly comparable without qualification.
  4. Read the median as context. Say whether your rate is above or below the cohort median; do not label the median a target.
  5. Use percentiles only for the question they answer. If available, a percentile can show relative position in the distribution. Do not assume a top-quartile threshold is the right goal for your company.
  6. Add NRR for context. Consider retention alongside growth, while describing the reported relationship as an association rather than a causal effect.
  7. Label every comparison. Include the survey year, population, ARR band, metric definition, and period whenever you share the result.
