The “ballsack” enemy in Gears of War: E-Day is the spore maiden. Aim for its eyeball, but expect it to take sustained fire: Kotaku reporter Zack Zwiezen says one took more than 200 Lancer bullets on standard difficulty in his campaign experience. It also releases floating, needle-firing spores, so taking the maiden out promptly—and using explosives if you have them—is a sensible approach.
What the ballsack enemy is—and where to shoot
The enemy is called a spore maiden; “floating ballsacks” is the colloquial name used in the game, according to Kotaku’s October 5, 2026 report. Its eyeball is identified as a weak point, so aim there when firing.
How to handle a spore maiden encounter
Focus on the maiden when you can
The maiden releases floating spores that fire needles and can continue spawning them until it dies. Prioritizing the source of that ongoing projectile threat is a practical inference from the reported behavior, not a confirmed universal encounter rule.
Use explosives if available
Kotaku recommends spending explosives against the unusually durable enemy. The report does not establish a required explosive type or number, so use what you have rather than saving it for a specific prescribed sequence.

Plan for sustained damage
In Zwiezen’s standard-difficulty experience, one spore maiden took more than 200 Lancer bullets even when he aimed at its weak point. That is one player’s reported result, not an official health value or a guarantee for every encounter. If your Lancer fire is not ending the fight quickly, keep aiming for the eye and consider switching to explosives.
What is not confirmed
The available report does not establish exact damage values, a mandatory weapon, a reliable encounter-by-encounter walkthrough, or how the fight changes across difficulties or platforms. It describes encounters with multiple spore maidens, including a side mission with about four, but does not give a reproducible sequence for beating them. Treat the advice above as a practical response to the reported weak point, durability, and spore hazard—not a tested rule for every situation.
