For recurring batches, use a service that explicitly accepts multiple inputs in one request, or automate a browser renderer such as Playwright. First check whether your inputs are URLs, local files, or HTML strings; then verify batch limits, per-item error reporting, print layout controls, and privacy terms before sending a large or sensitive job.
Choose the right route for your HTML
“Batch conversion” can mean selecting several saved files in a web form, sending many URLs to an API, or running a script that renders each page. Those are different workflows: a converter that handles one document per request does not become batch-capable just because you can repeat the upload.
- A small, one-off set: use browser printing or an online converter if you are comfortable processing each document manually.
- Repeated jobs or many URLs: prefer a documented batch endpoint, or automate a browser renderer and save one result per input.
- JavaScript-heavy pages or precise layout needs: use a browser-based renderer with controls for print CSS, margins, backgrounds, and page ranges.
- Confidential or authenticated content: decide whether it is appropriate to send the material to a hosted service only after reviewing that provider’s current privacy and retention terms.
Before choosing, inventory the actual inputs: saved HTML files, raw markup, public URLs, ZIP archives, or pages that require login. Also note whether rendering depends on JavaScript, remote fonts, images, or a particular print stylesheet. Provider support differs; test the exact kind of input rather than assuming all HTML-to-PDF tools accept it.
Convert a small batch manually
Print a web page to PDF
- Open the page in a browser and wait for its content and images to load.
- Open the browser’s Print dialog. In Chrome, for example, use the browser menu and choose Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on macOS.
- Choose Save as PDF as the destination, then inspect layout options such as paper size, margins, scale, and background graphics.
- Save the PDF using a filename that identifies the source page. Repeat for the remaining pages.
This is a practical route for a few pages, but it is still one print job per page. Browser labels and available options may vary by browser and version. It also does not provide batch-level reporting if one page fails or renders incorrectly.

Use an online converter form
Open the chosen converter and check whether it accepts multiple files in one submission or only one file at a time. Confirm whether it accepts your actual input type: local HTML upload, URL, raw HTML, or ZIP. If it only accepts one item per submission, the workflow may still save time on an occasional task, but it is not a batch endpoint. Convert a representative sample first and check styles, images, page breaks, orientation, and output filenames.
Use a batch API for repeat work
For a recurring workflow, compare a provider’s documented API behavior rather than relying on the word “batch” in a product description. GoPDF’s API reference documents an authenticated POST /convert/batch endpoint that accepts 1–50 HTML strings or URLs per request and renders up to 10 items concurrently. Its example response reports status and errors per item. Those are GoPDF’s documented specifications, not general limits for conversion services; confirm current quotas and terms with the provider.
Other documented input sets differ. Adobe PDF Services describes conversion from static and dynamic HTML, ZIP, and URL inputs. Cloudflare Browser Run’s PDF endpoint accepts a URL or HTML for headless-browser rendering; its documentation was updated 2026-09-26. The documentation establishes those input pathways, but does not by itself establish that a particular batch workflow, quota, or price will fit your job. Check the current API reference before building around an endpoint.
Questions to settle before integrating
- Input format: Can the endpoint accept every source you have, including local content, URLs, ZIPs, or raw markup?
- Batch shape: What is the maximum number of documents per request, and is concurrency limited separately?
- Results: Does each input receive its own success or failure status? Can a failed document be retried without resubmitting successful items?
- Rendering controls: Can you set page size, margins, orientation, backgrounds, headers and footers, or page ranges?
- Authentication: Can the renderer reach pages behind a login, and what credentials or cookies must be sent?
- Operations: Are there quotas, timeouts, or documented retry rules that affect your expected batch size?
- Privacy: What content is retained, who can access it, and how are URLs or uploaded files handled?
PDFCrowd describes an HTML-to-PDF API, and HTMLPDF.dev describes an API as well as an online playground. Treat claims on product pages as vendor statements, not independently verified performance results. Automate rendering with Playwright
If you want to control rendering yourself, Playwright’s page.pdf() creates a PDF from a browser page. Its documented default uses print CSS media; it also documents emulating screen media and options including format, margins, print backgrounds, and page ranges. This is browser automation rather than a hosted consumer converter, so you manage the runtime, input handling, and output files.
The following Python example shows a basic URL batch: it opens each page, waits for the page load event, writes one PDF per URL, and continues to the next URL if an item raises an error. Install Playwright and its Chromium browser first (pip install playwright, then playwright install chromium). Save this as batch_pdf.py and run python batch_pdf.py.
from pathlib import Path
from playwright.sync_api import sync_playwright
urls = [
"https://example.com/",
"https://example.org/",
]
output_dir = Path("pdfs")
output_dir.mkdir(exist_ok=True)
with sync_playwright() as p:
browser = p.chromium.launch()
page = browser.new_page()
for index, url in enumerate(urls, start=1):
try:
response = page.goto(url, wait_until="load", timeout=60000)
if response is not None and response.status >= 400:
print(f"FAILED {url}: HTTP {response.status}")
continue
page.pdf(
path=str(output_dir / f"page-{index:03}.pdf"),
format="A4",
print_background=True,
margin={"top": "12mm", "right": "12mm", "bottom": "12mm", "left": "12mm"},
)
print(f"SAVED {url}")
except Exception as exc:
print(f"FAILED {url}: {exc}")
browser.close()
This is a starting point, not a universal rendering recipe. The sample assumes public URLs and uses a simple sequential loop. For local HTML, navigate to a file URL or serve the files locally; for raw markup, set page content instead of navigating to a URL. Those inputs can have different relative-path behavior for stylesheets and images, so verify assets in the resulting PDF.
Adjust print output deliberately
- Print styles: Playwright uses print CSS by default. If the page’s print stylesheet omits or rearranges content you need, compare the result with the screen rendering and test screen-media emulation as documented by Playwright.
- Paper and orientation: select a format that suits the document, and check whether landscape orientation or custom dimensions are needed.
- Backgrounds and colors: enable print backgrounds when the design relies on background colors or images.
- Margins and page breaks: inspect long pages and tables for clipped content, awkward breaks, and excessive whitespace; adjust margins and the source print CSS as needed.
- Page ranges: when only selected pages are needed, use the page-range option documented by Playwright rather than manually editing every result.
A page-load event is not proof that every dynamic element is ready. A site may populate content after load or wait for an interaction. For such pages, add a wait condition appropriate to the site—for example, wait for a known content selector—then inspect a sample PDF. Do not rely on a fixed delay unless the page gives you no better readiness signal.

Validate the batch and handle failures
- Start with representative inputs. Include a simple page and the most complicated page in the set: one that uses scripts, remote fonts, large images, or long tables.
- Inspect the PDF, not just the job status. Check whether text is present and selectable where expected, images and fonts loaded, page breaks are sensible, and the selected paper size and orientation are correct.
- Keep an input-to-output record. Use stable filenames or a manifest so each PDF can be traced to its URL or source file.
- Track each item separately. A batch can partially fail. Prefer APIs that return per-item status, and record errors so you can retry only failed documents.
- Rerun after changing layout settings. A change to print CSS, margins, or paper format can affect every document, so validate a fresh sample before processing the full set again.
For a large run, estimate the job from the provider’s documented request limits, concurrency, quota, and retry behavior. GoPDF’s stated maximum of 50 items per request and up to 10 concurrent renders applies to that API’s documented behavior, not to other providers. A local browser script can be run sequentially as in the example; adding parallel workers may increase resource use and can overload a site or hit service limits, so do not assume that more concurrency is always faster.
Privacy, reliability, and cost checks
Technical API documentation does not settle confidentiality or retention. Before uploading nonpublic HTML or asking a hosted renderer to fetch a URL, read the provider’s current terms for data retention, access controls, and handling of submitted content. For authenticated pages, consider what a URL fetch or supplied cookie could expose; do not send credentials or internal URLs to a service unless its security and access model is acceptable for that use.
No comparative conversion test or independent performance result is established here, so choose based on documented behavior and a representative trial rather than assumed speed or fidelity. Confirm current quotas, pricing, and availability directly with the provider. A browser script avoids a hosted conversion API but requires you to operate the browser environment and troubleshoot rendering dependencies yourself; a hosted API can reduce that operational work but creates a provider and privacy decision.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API can return a screenshot or PDF from a URL, so it is an option when your batch consists of web pages rather than a directory of local HTML files or arbitrary raw markup. The service’s PDF parameter details should be checked in the API documentation; the example below is the supplied one-call URL capture request and saves its response as an image file.

The PDF is blank or missing dynamic content
The page may not have finished rendering when capture began, or its content may require JavaScript or interaction. For Playwright, wait for a meaningful selector or other page-specific readiness condition before calling page.pdf(). Check the browser console and network behavior if assets or scripts fail to load. Hosted tools may classify some failed or blank captures differently; inspect their response or item-level status rather than treating every returned file as a successful conversion.
Images, fonts, or styles are missing
Confirm the source references are reachable from the rendering environment. Relative asset paths may break when HTML is uploaded or loaded from a different location. For local files, preserve the expected directory structure or serve the files from a local web server. Check whether remote resources require authentication or are blocked by the renderer.
The layout differs from the screen
PDF output commonly follows print styles rather than the on-screen appearance. Review print CSS, background settings, paper format, scale, and margins. Playwright documents print-media output by default and an option to emulate screen media; compare both for a representative document if the print stylesheet hides content you need.

One item fails in a batch
Do not assume the whole batch succeeded or failed as one unit. Read per-document statuses where available, preserve successful outputs, and retry the failed input after checking its URL, response status, authentication, and rendering readiness. If the provider does not expose item-level errors, test smaller batches to isolate the problematic input.
The service rejects an input or the batch is too large
Check whether the endpoint accepts that input type and whether the request exceeds its documented item limit, payload constraints, quota, or concurrency rules. For GoPDF specifically, its API reference describes 1–50 inputs per request and up to 10 concurrent renders; do not apply those figures to a different service. Split work according to the selected provider’s current limits.
Frequently asked questions
Can I batch convert local HTML files without uploading them to a service?
Yes. A local browser automation workflow such as Playwright can render files from your machine, provided their linked assets are available to the renderer. The example above demonstrates URL inputs; local files need a suitable file URL or local server and careful handling of relative paths.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does a PDF API automatically support batch requests?
No. A service may offer single-document PDF rendering without a multi-item endpoint. Verify the batch request format, limits, and per-item results in the current API documentation before relying on it.
Is there a universally best online converter?
No single provider is established as best for every input type, volume, layout requirement, or privacy need. Compare the exact workflow and validate a representative batch before committing.
