To back up a WordPress site to OneDrive, use a backup plugin that supports Microsoft OneDrive, connect your Microsoft account in the plugin’s remote-storage settings, choose what to back up, set a schedule and retention limit, then confirm the backup appears in OneDrive. A complete site backup should include both WordPress files and the database.
Choose a plugin that supports OneDrive
Check that OneDrive is available in the specific plugin edition you plan to use. WPvivid lists OneDrive, manual and scheduled backups, and dashboard restores in its WordPress.org plugin listing. UpdraftPlus documents Microsoft OneDrive as a remote-storage option, but its WordPress.org listing identifies OneDrive support as a paid-version feature. These are vendor-published feature descriptions, not independent performance assessments. Edition details can change, so confirm current availability before configuring the plugin.
Decide what the backup must contain
A full WordPress backup includes both the website files and its database. Files-only and database-only backups are partial backups; they can be useful for specific tasks, but neither alone represents a complete site backup. WPvivid explains these backup scopes in its backup options documentation. Choose a scope that covers what you would need to recover.
Connect WPvivid to OneDrive

- In the WordPress dashboard, open WPvivid Plugin → Cloud Storage.
- Select Microsoft OneDrive and authenticate with the Microsoft account that should hold the backups.
- Set a parent folder and a website subfolder so the backups have a clear destination.
- Choose the retention limit and whether OneDrive should be the default storage location.

Set the backup scope and schedule
WPvivid supports manual and scheduled backups according to its plugin listing. Select the scope and choose a frequency based on how often the site changes and how much recent work you could afford to lose. There is no universally established schedule: a frequently updated site may need more frequent backups than a mostly static one. Run a manual backup when you need a copy outside the regular schedule.
Choose a retention limit
Set how many backup copies to keep with your expected recovery history and available storage in mind. WPvivid’s OneDrive configuration guide says that when the configured limit is reached, the oldest copies are deleted. A low limit leaves less history to recover from; a higher one keeps more copies but uses more storage.

Check that the backup finishes and reaches OneDrive
Start a backup or wait for the next scheduled run, then check the plugin’s backup status and the configured OneDrive folder. An upload destination being connected does not by itself confirm that a backup completed. If a large backup fails, check the plugin’s logs and hosting constraints. WPvivid’s documentation discusses splitting backup files to accommodate host file-size limits and notes that a PHP execution timeout can interrupt the process; applicable limits vary by host. Know where the restore action is
WPvivid says backups can be restored from the WordPress admin dashboard through its plugin listing. Before relying on a remote copy, locate the restore controls in your installed plugin and understand the documented restore steps. The feature listing establishes a dashboard restore option; it does not establish that a live backup and restore have been tested for your site.
