Village in the Shade has an in-game history feature for recovering an earlier save: Ver. 1.09 lets one save slot retain up to five previous save states. It is not a five-day rewind, and it only covers saves created after installing the update. Switch and Steam listings also mention their respective cloud services, but those listings do not explain or guarantee a game-specific restore process.

How to use previous-save history
The publisher’s Ver. 1.09 announcement, dated September 3, 2026, says: “Added the ability for a single save slot to store up to five previous saves.” It also limits the feature to saves created after the patch is installed. If you are using an older version, update first; older saves do not become eligible retroactively.

- Install Ver. 1.09 or later before creating the saves you want covered by history.
- When you need to roll back, open the game’s save-data selection screen.
- Select a retained earlier save state and continue from it. Treat that selection as the state you are resuming: progress made after it is rolled back.
The game guide does not establish the exact ordering shown on that screen, whether loading an earlier state preserves newer entries, or how branching and overwriting work. Do not assume the later state can be safely restored after loading an older one.

Five means five historical save states, not five complete in-game days. Morning wake is the ordinary documented checkpoint boundary. A Midnight checkpoint can also be made in Shade mode when the relevant route and conditions apply; it is not a universal checkpoint every night. Because an eligible Midnight checkpoint can add a state, the five retained entries may cover less than five full days. The guide’s missables and point-of-no-return guide also describes the history as points in the save record, rather than a calendar-based rewind.

Can you manually save anywhere?
The game’s save guide does not document a normal free-form manual save at any location. Its documented recovery model is save history tied to checkpointing, ordinarily at morning wake, with the conditional Shade-mode Midnight checkpoint noted above. Does Clear Data back up the village?
No. Clear Data is a post-ending continuation record: saving it lets the village continue after the ending. If you decline, the game returns you to that morning, where you can repeat the finale or choose the other documented path. The guide does not establish how Clear Data interacts with the five previous-save states or guarantee that both endings can be recovered from a particular record.

What to know about Switch and Steam cloud saves
Nintendo Switch
Nintendo’s US and Canada store pages list Save Data Cloud for the Switch edition under Nintendo Switch Online. Those listings do not state the game’s precise cloud-save eligibility, membership or regional conditions, restoration steps, or what happens when local and cloud saves conflict. The US listing displays an October 27, 2026 release date, which is later than October 3, 2026, the authoritative date of the available source information; it should not be read as a date that has already passed.
Steam
Steam’s support listing names Steam Cloud and provides a publisher support contact for technical issues. It does not explain how to restore this game’s cloud copy or guarantee that one will be available or newer than the local save.

If your save is missing or you need to roll back
