The setup works on WordPress.com and on self-hosted WordPress sites using Jetpack. LinkedIn connections expire every two months, so you must reauthorize them to keep automatic sharing active.
Connect LinkedIn to WordPress with Jetpack Social
- Log in to LinkedIn first, then open Jetpack → Social in your WordPress dashboard.
- Choose Add account or Connect an account, select LinkedIn, and sign in when prompted.
- Approve WordPress.com’s access to LinkedIn, then confirm the connection after returning to WordPress.
WordPress.com Support says posts published after setup are shared automatically, with options to adjust sharing for individual posts before publication. Jetpack Social, formerly called Publicize, is available through Jetpack Core or the standalone Jetpack Social plugin. WordPress.com Support’s LinkedIn instructions and Jetpack’s social connection guide describe the connection process.
Choose which posts to share and customize them
In the post editor, open the Jetpack or Social controls in the sidebar, select LinkedIn, and turn on Auto-share post. You can add a message for the post and choose an image where the editor allows it; the featured image is used by default. Dynamic placeholders such as {title}, {tags}, and {url} can be used in messages.
Review the sharing details before publishing. Saving a draft by itself does not trigger a LinkedIn share. Jetpack documents controls for both the Block Editor and Classic Editor; its sharing and reshare controls for WordPress.com sites use the Block Editor, while the Classic Editor instructions apply to self-hosted sites. Account-level controls and permissions
On self-hosted Jetpack sites and WordPress.com Atomic sites, a site administrator can control the overall auto-sharing toggle. On WordPress.com Simple sites, auto-sharing is always on and cannot be turned off. By default, the administrator who created a social connection owns it. That administrator can mark the connection as shared so eligible Administrators, Editors, and Authors can use it; sharing the connection does not give them direct access to the LinkedIn account. Jetpack’s Social support page documents these controls.
Verify a share or retry a failed post
Open View sharing activity in Jetpack Social to see the connection, share time, status, and available actions. If a post failed, the activity view can display an error and offer a retry. Check the error and correct the issue before retrying. Jetpack Social support describes the activity view and retry controls.
Fix automatic sharing when it stops
- Check the LinkedIn connection: Open Jetpack → Social and reconnect if needed. Jetpack says LinkedIn connections expire every two months and require reauthorization.
- Inspect the post’s activity: Look for a failure status or error in View sharing activity, address the indicated problem, and retry.
- Test a fresh post: If reconnecting does not resolve the issue, WordPress.com recommends disconnecting the account, clearing LinkedIn cookies, reconnecting, and publishing a new post to test sharing. A saved draft is not a test because drafts do not trigger shares.

What Jetpack’s free and paid options include
Jetpack says its free plan includes automatic sharing, previews, unlimited shares, reshares, scheduling of published posts, and Social Notes. Its paid Social plan adds per-network messages and templates, custom images and videos, an image generator, and priority support. Per-network customization and reusable templates are paid features according to Jetpack’s documentation. Plan terms can change; check Jetpack’s current Social plan page for the live feature boundaries. No prices are needed to set up automatic sharing.

Other WordPress plugins that list LinkedIn publishing
Jetpack is the clearest documented route for this workflow because its support material covers connection, post controls, and troubleshooting. WordPress.org also lists other plugins with LinkedIn-publishing features; their listed capabilities do not establish that they are more reliable than Jetpack.
