Automate website screenshots in Make by connecting a trigger to a screenshot action, then sending the resulting image or PDF to storage, email, OCR, or another step. Choose a Make screenshot workflow
The right setup depends on what should trigger a capture and what kind of output you need. Make’s documented capabilities establish available actions, not comparative pricing or speed. Validate the provider against your target pages and requirements before building a workflow around it.
Build the scenario: trigger, capture, and file handling
1. Choose the trigger and provide the page URL
Start with a Make trigger that can supply the URL and any capture options. A schedule suits recurring captures; a webhook, database event, or another app’s event suits captures initiated by new data or activity. Map the URL from the trigger output rather than hard-coding it if each run may target a different page.

If another system needs to start the scenario and receive a result, Make supports scenario inputs and outputs for structured data. Its documentation describes using these interfaces with APIs, subscenarios, AI agents, and MCP. See Make scenario inputs and outputs.
2. Add a screenshot action
Add the provider’s Make module and map the trigger’s URL into its URL field. With GetScreenshot, choose Take Screenshot for a webpage or Take Element Screenshot when you need a particular element and can provide its selector. GetScreenshot also lists variants that capture and send the result by email. With HTML to Image API, documented actions include capturing a website screenshot, creating a screenshot of a URL, converting HTML/CSS to PNG, JPG, or WebP, and generating a PDF from a URL or HTML/CSS.
For a custom API integration, add Make’s HTTP Make a request module and configure the provider’s HTTPS endpoint, authentication, request parameters, and expected response handling. The HTTP app is designed to connect Make to API services and applications that lack a Make integration.
3. Route the returned file to its destination
Connect the screenshot result to a downstream module such as cloud storage, email, OCR, or a report-generation workflow. Make’s HTTP documentation includes downloading a file, and Make’s HTML/CSS to Image and HTTP integration pages document a Google Cloud Vision OCR workflow for captured content. Check the provider module’s output mapping so the receiving step gets the file or downloadable file data—not only the URL or other metadata.
For easier comparisons between runs, store the source URL and capture timestamp with the image. These metadata make it possible to identify which page a file represents and when it was captured.

4. Test with a representative page
Run the scenario once with a URL and output destination like those you expect in production. Inspect the module output and confirm that the next step receives a usable image or PDF. Then test a second URL, especially if your scenario will process pages with different layouts or access requirements.
When to use Make’s HTTP app
HTTP is useful when your preferred screenshot provider is not listed as a native Make integration or you need to configure its API request directly. The provider’s documentation must tell you the endpoint, authentication method, request parameters, and how the response represents the resulting file. Use HTTPS and configure credentials in Make’s dedicated credential or connection fields where supported.
Make’s HTTP documentation lists Basic Auth, API key, and OAuth 2.0 authentication options. It advises entering authentication details in the dedicated Credentials field rather than passing them through headers or query parameters. Match the authentication option to the provider’s instructions; do not expose a secret in a scenario value that could be mapped, logged, or shared unintentionally.

Make’s native pages document different capabilities, so check the exact action you plan to use rather than assuming every integration supports the same output or controls.

Keep failures distinct from successful captures
A scenario that continues after an unsuccessful API response can accidentally store or email an error response as though it were an image. Configure the HTTP module’s error handling intentionally, and verify the result before passing it to later steps. For a native integration, inspect the module output and test how the scenario behaves when a capture cannot be produced.

Make’s documentation does not guarantee successful rendering for every site, authenticated page, or anti-bot configuration. A capture that works for a public test page may behave differently when the production target requires a login or restricts automated access. Validate those cases with the chosen provider and follow the site’s access rules.
Account for recurring runs and downstream processing
A scheduled workflow can repeatedly create files and trigger storage, email, or OCR steps. Decide how often captures are needed and whether old files should be retained, replaced, or compared. The Make pages cited here do not publish provider price or speed comparisons, so evaluate your own expected volume against the selected provider’s terms rather than relying on an unsupported cost or latency estimate.
Troubleshoot common Make screenshot problems
- The URL is empty or wrong: inspect the trigger bundle and the mapping in the screenshot module. Ensure the mapped value is a complete page URL and that the scenario is receiving the expected field.

Expose the capture workflow through an API
If another service must start a Make scenario programmatically and receive its result, use Make’s documented scenario inputs and outputs and API reference. The API reference describes running an active scenario with required inputs and returning scenario outputs. See Make’s scenarios API reference. Define the input fields your capture needs—such as a URL—and return the output fields your caller needs, such as a file reference or status, based on the actual modules and response available in your scenario.
