You can automate website screenshots for an Indian government portal by calling CaptureKit’s GET /v1/capture endpoint from a server-side job, setting the target URL and capture options, and saving each returned image or PDF with its capture settings and timestamp. First confirm the portal owner’s access rules: this workflow does not establish permission to automate any particular site. Screenshots document what a page looked like; they do not prove GIGW conformance.
Before scheduling captures, confirm the portal permits them
The title does not identify a specific portal, and there is no blanket authorization to automate requests to Indian government sites. Check the portal’s published terms and access controls, and ask its owner about approval, permitted request frequency, and operational constraints before running a schedule. The right frequency depends on the portal’s rules and your use case; no universal interval is established here.
Also consider what a capture may contain. A screenshot can include personal, confidential, or otherwise sensitive information depending on the page and its state. Decide who can access the images and where they may be stored before enabling recurring captures.
What screenshots can—and cannot—show about GIGW
The Guidelines for Indian Government Websites and apps (GIGW) cover government websites and apps at central, state, and local levels. The official guidance addresses consistent presentation, security, usability, accessibility, and user-centricity. Its stated objective is to help government sites “conform to the essential prerequisites of the UUU trilogy of usability, user-centricity and universal accessibility.” Guidelines for Indian Government Websites and apps.

- 💎 Pro-Grade Durability: Carbon-steel rollers withstand aggressive spline rolling without deformation. your lifetime screen repair tool investment.
A screenshot can document a visible state for review or comparison, but it cannot establish semantic markup, accessible names, screen-reader behavior, or all manual checkpoints. For example, GIGW guidance includes a manual check that a page prints correctly on A4, and accessibility guidance includes meaningful explanatory text for images and other non-text content. Use screenshots as visual records alongside the applicable manual, accessibility, and security evaluations—not as a compliance test or certification. See the GIGW guidelines and resources.
Build a server-side CaptureKit workflow
- Create an account and API key. CaptureKit’s quick start says the key is shown once. Save it in an environment variable or another server-side secret store; do not commit it to source control. The quick start warns against calling the API directly from browser or mobile code because the key can be exposed in network traffic. See CaptureKit’s quick start.
- Run the request from a controlled backend. Use a scheduled job, backend service, or controlled automation platform. The API documents
GET /v1/capturewith anx-api-keyheader and a target URL. Check the current CaptureKit capture endpoint documentation for required parameters and current response details. - Choose the output and dimensions. Set a format and viewport or device configuration that matches the report you need. A desktop capture and a mobile-emulated capture represent different viewing conditions. Record the selected dimensions with the image so later comparisons are interpretable.
- Choose a render wait condition. Use a documented
wait_untilvalue, an optional delay, orwait_for_selectorwhen the page requires time or a particular element to appear. Validate the choice against the target page rather than assuming one wait setting works for every portal. - Save the result and its context. Keep the returned image or PDF with its URL, timestamp, viewport, format, wait settings, and outcome. CaptureKit documents optional S3-compatible storage; assess the sensitivity of the screenshots and storage access before using it.
- Review logs and failures. The quick start describes API logs that show status, duration, and credit cost. Use these records to identify failed captures and to interpret changes between successful ones.
CaptureKit documents one credit per successful capture call; its overview says errors do not consume credits. Account and billing terms can change, so confirm the current details in CaptureKit’s documentation before relying on them.

Choose capture options for the evidence you need
The CaptureKit endpoint documents these controls. They are configuration options, not settings validated on a particular government portal; test changes against the authorized target and record them.
| Decision | What to configure | When it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Output format | PNG, JPEG/JPG, WebP, or PDF | Choose based on how the record will be reviewed or shared. The endpoint supports these formats; it does not establish a universally best format. |
| Viewport or device | Viewport dimensions and device controls | Use dimensions that correspond to the state you want to document; retain them in the capture log. |
| Page or element | Full-page capture or selector for a target element |
Use a selector when the evidence concerns one component rather than the entire page. |
| Render timing | wait_until: domcontentloaded, load, networkidle0, or networkidle2; optional delay; optional wait_for_selector |
Choose based on how the page renders and validate repeatability. A page with ongoing network activity may not suit a network-idle condition. |
| Resource or URL blocking | Resource and URL blocking controls | Blocking can affect the rendered result if scripts, styles, fonts, images, or other requests are needed to display the page. Test carefully and document what was blocked. |
| Cache behavior | Caching controls | Consider whether a cached result is appropriate for a time-specific record; the endpoint documents caching, but the capture log should make the intended context clear. |
| Storage | Returned file or optional S3-compatible storage | Use a storage arrangement whose access controls and handling meet your organization’s requirements. |
For a useful comparison, vary one axis at a time—for example, desktop versus mobile dimensions, full page versus element, or immediate capture versus selector-based wait. Otherwise, a changed image may reflect several configuration changes rather than a portal change.

Keep the workflow repeatable and interpretable
- Use a stable, authorized target URL and record the exact URL requested.
- Log the capture timestamp, output format, viewport or device settings, wait condition, delay or selector if used, and success or error outcome.
- Preserve the output alongside its log entry; label captures so readers can distinguish viewport snapshots, element captures, and PDFs.
- Make one configuration change at a time when diagnosing visual differences.
- Review the schedule and request pattern with the portal owner; avoid assuming that a technically successful request is operationally permitted.
- Restrict access to images and logs according to the information they contain.
These practices make a series of images easier to compare, but they do not establish that a page is unchanged in ways a screenshot cannot show, or that the portal conforms to GIGW.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication or authorization error | The API key may be missing, invalid, or sent under the wrong header. | Confirm the secret is available to the server-side job and sent as x-api-key, following the current endpoint documentation. Do not move the key into client-side code. |
| Capture is blank or incomplete | The page may not have rendered the expected content before the capture, or blocked resources may be required. | Try an appropriate documented wait condition, a delay, or wait_for_selector. Review resource and URL blocking settings and test without unnecessary blocking. |
| Target element is missing | The selector may not match the page state or may be evaluated before the element appears. | Verify the selector against the authorized page and use the selector-wait option where appropriate. |
| Results differ between runs | Viewport, timing, page state, caching, or blocked resources may have changed. | Compare the logged settings and vary only one option at a time. Treat the capture as evidence of a particular rendered state, not a guarantee that the underlying page is identical. |
| Capture fails or takes too long | The page may be slow, inaccessible, or waiting indefinitely on activity that does not settle. | Check the response and API log, then select a wait condition appropriate to the page. If the failure persists, consult CaptureKit’s endpoint documentation and the portal owner’s operational guidance. |
| Unexpected credit use | Successful calls consume credits under the documented model. | Review API logs for status, duration, and credit cost, and verify current account terms in CaptureKit documentation. |

ScreenshotNeo offers a one-call screenshot API, with documentation at ScreenshotNeo’s API docs. For an authorized public page, a cURL request looks like this:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace https://stripe.com with the portal URL you are authorized to capture. ScreenshotNeo also provides a Python example:
