For a product page you are authorized to access, use an AI agent with Playwright to open the URL, check a permissioned page-readiness condition, and save a viewport, full-page, or element screenshot. Pair the image with a fresh accessibility snapshot when the agent needs to understand or interact with the page. First check the marketplace’s current terms and your authorization: the reviewed Amazon India and Flipkart terms restrict automated access or extraction in relevant ways, so this workflow is not blanket permission to capture their pages.
Check authorization before automating a marketplace page
Before writing a browser script, identify the site, the account or access method, your intended request volume, and whether you will store or republish the screenshot. Check the current terms and obtain written permission or use an interface specifically authorized for your purpose. These are platform-specific terms, not a universal legal ruling; seek qualified advice if your use depends on how the terms apply.
- Amazon India: Its reviewed terms say the limited site license excludes data-mining, robots, or similar extraction tools, and restrict extracting substantial content for reuse without express written consent. See Amazon India’s Terms of Use.
- Flipkart: Its reviewed terms prohibit page-scraping and similar automated or manual processes to access, acquire, copy, or monitor site content through means not purposely made available. See Flipkart’s Terms of Use.
Flipkart’s Terms of Use specifically state: “You shall not use any ‘deep-link’, ‘page-scrape’, ‘robot’, ‘spider’ or other automatic device, program, algorithm or methodology, or any similar or equivalent manual process, to access, acquire, copy or monitor any portion of the Website or any Content, or in any way reproduce or circumvent the navigational structure or presentation of the Website or any Content, to obtain or attempt to obtain any materials, documents or information through any means not purposely made available through the Website.”

Plan a permissioned AI-agent workflow
- Define the scope. Confirm that you may access the page and capture the intended content. Decide whether the screenshot is for internal review, an audit, comparison, or redistribution; storage and reuse may require separate consideration.
- Navigate with an authorized browser interface. Playwright can open a URL, but navigation finishing does not prove that dynamic product details have rendered. Use a legitimate, site-specific readiness condition that corresponds to the information your capture needs.
- Choose what to capture. A viewport screenshot records the visible area; a full-page screenshot covers the scrollable page; an element screenshot focuses on a selected region. Use only the scope your authorization allows.
- Give the agent structured context. Take a fresh accessibility snapshot after navigation to identify page content and controls. Use the screenshot as visual evidence, not as the sole basis for precise interaction.
- Keep provenance with the file. Record the source URL, capture time, viewport dimensions, browser/runtime version, and relevant consent or authorization reference. For comparisons, hold browser, platform, viewport, and screenshot options steady.
- Protect personal information. Capture only what is needed, limit access to stored images, and set a retention period. Mask sensitive information only when permitted and when doing so does not compromise the evidence you need.
Install Playwright and capture an authorized page
The following runnable Node.js example illustrates the browser setup. It intentionally does not name or target a marketplace, bypass access restrictions, or claim a stable selector for any Indian ecommerce site. Replace the example URL only with a page you are authorized to capture. Install Playwright and its Chromium browser in your project with npm install playwright and npx playwright install chromium.

Choose viewport, full-page, or element capture
Viewport screenshot
Use the default screenshot when the initial visible fold is all you need. The browser viewport dimensions determine the visible area. For repeatable comparisons, keep the viewport and device scale consistent.

Set fullPage: true to capture the scrollable page. Playwright describes this as “a screenshot of the full scrollable page, as if the page could fit it entirely on a very tall screen.” Full-page images may be long and harder to inspect; use them only when the extra content matters.

Element screenshot
When authorization permits, use a locator’s screenshot method to capture a particular product image or details region. Make sure the locator identifies the intended element and that it is visible and rendered before capture.
Playwright documents screenshot scope and options in its screenshot guide and Page API. Options include capture type, clipping, scale, and masking. Device scale can make an image larger than a CSS-scale capture, so keep it consistent when comparing results.
Give an AI agent visual and structured evidence
A screenshot preserves appearance, while an accessibility snapshot exposes structured page information that can help an agent understand content and locate controls. Neither replaces authorization or reliable readiness checks. Take the snapshot after navigation and again after important page changes so it reflects the current page state. For interaction, rely on the structured page representation to locate controls, and use screenshots to check visual state. A static image alone is a poor basis for precise actions because it does not provide the same structured control information.

Make captures repeatable and preserve their context
Browser and platform rendering, viewport dimensions, device scale, fonts, and page state can all affect appearance. To compare product pages or repeat a capture, keep the browser version, platform, viewport, scale, readiness condition, and screenshot options consistent. Save the capture time and source URL with the image, along with the runtime version and any authorization reference appropriate to your workflow.
Choose full-page capture only when the additional content is useful, since it can create a much larger image than a viewport shot. Avoid capturing account or customer information unless you are authorized and have a clear need for it. Apply access controls and a retention period to stored files.
Troubleshoot common capture failures
The screenshot is blank or missing product details
Likely cause: Navigation completed before the dynamic content you need rendered, or the readiness condition was too broad. Fix: Use an authorized page-specific condition tied to the intended content, then inspect a fresh accessibility snapshot before capturing. No universal marketplace selector or wait rule is established here.

The script cannot find the selected element
Likely cause: The selector does not match the current page, or the element has not appeared. Fix: Recheck the current structured snapshot and use a selector appropriate to the authorized page. Do not assume a selector from another product page or site will remain stable.

Likely cause: Viewport, device scale, browser/platform rendering, fonts, or page state changed. Fix: Standardize the browser and capture settings and record them with each image.
The image is much larger than expected
Likely cause: Full-page capture includes the entire scrollable page, or device scale produces more pixels than CSS scale. Fix: Capture only the viewport or a permitted element if that is sufficient, and keep scale consistent. Check Playwright’s Page API for supported options.
