To automate a YouTube playlist in OBS, install VLC, add a VLC Video source, put your files in the required order, and enable Loop Playlist if you want playback to repeat. Then connect OBS to a YouTube Live event with its stream URL and key, and configure the encoder for 4K at 60fps only if your computer and internet upload can sustain it. Playlist playback and the YouTube event’s start and stop behavior are separate settings.
What you need before setting up the playlist
- OBS Studio installed on the computer that will run the stream.
- VLC media player installed in the same architecture as OBS. OBS says the VLC Video source requires VLC, and 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- Local video and audio files that the computer can access while streaming. OBS’s media-source documentation lists common formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, WebM, MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. VLC Video uses VLC libraries for extended media support.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, plus a reliable upload connection and an encoder capable of the intended 4K/60 output.
India does not have a different playlist procedure or a separate bitrate table in the reviewed OBS and YouTube documentation. Your actual connection, YouTube account settings, and rights to the media still matter; test the connection you will use, at the time you intend to stream.

- Prepare the files. Put the media somewhere the streaming computer can access throughout the broadcast. Check the files play correctly before adding them. If you move or rename them later, update the playlist and test again.
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, select an existing scene or create a dedicated scene for the playlist.
- Add the playlist source. In the Sources box, select +, choose VLC Video, and create the source.
- Set the file order. Add the media files in the order you want them to play. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for predictable sequencing.
- Choose whether the playlist repeats. Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the full list after its last item. Leave it off if playback should end when the list finishes.
- Check visibility behavior. Set how the source behaves when its scene is hidden, then test any scene changes you plan to use. An unintended visibility setting can pause or stop playback rather than letting it continue.
- Preview the whole sequence. Confirm the first item starts, files advance in the intended order, audio is present, and looping works if enabled. Test representative files rather than assuming every file will behave identically.
OBS documents playlist controls and supported media-source behavior in Media Sources.

Create the YouTube event and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule the live event. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance; enable the feature ahead of your intended broadcast.
- Copy the stream destination and key shown for the event into OBS’s streaming settings. Use the destination and key supplied by YouTube for that event and follow the current OBS and YouTube interface labels. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Confirm the event is ready in Live Control Room, then start the OBS encoder for a private or unlisted test before relying on the workflow for a public stream.
- Decide how the event starts and stops. YouTube’s stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop options when enabled. These govern the relationship between the encoder and YouTube event; they do not arrange or loop the media files in OBS. Verify the current account settings with a test event.

Set OBS output for 4K at 60fps
Use 3840×2160 at 60fps only if the computer’s selected encoder and sustained upload can handle it. YouTube’s English encoder guidance gives the following published bitrate ranges. They are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Indian internet connection can maintain the stream; YouTube localized pages have surfaced different tables, so check the guidance shown in Live Control Room for your account and region.

| Codec | YouTube’s 4K/2160p at 60fps bitrate guidance | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 14 Mbps minimum; 50 Mbps recommended | Confirm the OBS encoder and computer can sustain the output, and test upload stability at the intended time. |
| AV1 or H.265 | 10 Mbps minimum; 35 Mbps recommended | Confirm the chosen codec is supported by your encoder and YouTube setup; lower published bitrate figures do not establish that your hardware can encode it. |
YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Match the selected codec and resolution to the encoder options actually available on your computer. Before broadcasting unattended, run a test with representative motion and audio and check stream health in Live Control Room.

Understand latency and event duration
YouTube does not offer low- or ultra-low-latency modes for 4K. Its encoder guidance says 4K streams are set to normal latency and optimized for quality. If near-real-time audience interaction is essential, consider whether a lower resolution better fits the event. See YouTube Help: Understand live streaming latency.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If your broadcast may run longer, do not assume the full stream will be archived; check YouTube’s current live-stream and archive guidance before depending on a complete recording.

Copyright, reused content, and channel responsibility
Automation does not grant permission to broadcast a recording. Use videos, music, images, and other material you own or are authorized to stream, and check the terms that apply to each item. A playlist that loops for hours remains subject to YouTube’s rules and rights-holder actions. Review YouTube’s current policies in Studio before scheduling a long-running event; the sources linked above describe setup and encoding, not whether particular content is permitted or monetizable.

- VLC Video is missing from Sources: install VLC and match its architecture to OBS. OBS specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- A file does not play or the playlist stalls: confirm the file is accessible at its current location and supported by the installed media libraries. Test that file by itself, then rebuild or reorder the playlist if needed.
- Items play in a surprising order: turn off Shuffle Playlist and confirm the order of the files in the VLC Video source.
- The list ends instead of repeating: enable Loop Playlist and test through the final item.
- Playback stops when switching scenes: check the source’s visibility behavior and test the exact scene transitions used in the broadcast.
- YouTube does not start or the event behaves unexpectedly: verify that live streaming is enabled, the correct event destination and key are in OBS, and auto-start or auto-stop is enabled if you expect those controls to manage the event. Test privately or unlisted first.
- Stream health shows problems at 4K/60: check the selected codec’s bitrate guidance, encoder capability, and actual upload stability. Reduce the output demands or choose a lower resolution if the computer or connection cannot sustain the test.
- Audience interaction feels delayed: this is expected with 4K normal latency; YouTube does not support low or ultra-low latency at 4K.
