Apple’s Numbers keyboard shortcut reference also lists Command-Backslash for turning on auto-fill mode: Numbers for Mac keyboard shortcuts.
Fill a sequence instead of repeating the same value
To have Numbers continue a pattern, enter its first two items in adjacent body cells of the row or column. Select both cells, then drag the Autofill handle across the remaining range. For example, starting with 1 and 4, Numbers continues with 7 and 10, increasing by 3 each time. Header and footer cells are not the body cells used to establish this sequence.

If Numbers won’t let you edit the table, it may be locked. Select the table and choose Arrange > Unlock, as described in Apple’s guide to entering content in cells.

What Autofill copies—and what it does not
Autofill can add the selected cells’ data, formatting, formulas, or fill. Comments are not copied. After filling, the new cells can be edited independently; filling does not create an ongoing link between them. Formulas that refer to filled cells update automatically to use the new value.
Standard Autofill is distinct from Magic Fill, Apple’s pattern-recognition feature for populating a column. Apple says Magic Fill requires an Apple Creator Studio subscription; the drag, keyboard, and menu Autofill methods described here do not require Magic Fill. See Apple’s Autofill instructions and its Magic Fill guide.
