For one public page, the Wayback Machine’s Save Page Now makes a manual, one-time archive capture. It does not schedule screenshots. To build a recurring visual record, use a service that explicitly offers scheduled captures; for an organization preserving a defined web collection, consider a managed crawling service. These approaches can save different things—rendered screenshots, archived page files and assets, or both—so choose according to what you need to keep.
How do I schedule screenshots of a public website?
First decide whether you need a visual record of selected pages or preservation of a broader collection. For recurring visual records, choose a screenshot service whose current terms specify its schedule options and what each capture contains. Check the interval, viewport or full-page output, retention, exports, change detection, alerts, API access, and how it reports failed or partial captures.
Snapshot Archive describes configurable frequency, viewport and full-page modes, visual comparison, alerts, and PDF/HTML exports on its website. Those are vendor statements, not independent test results, and service details can change; verify the live offering before choosing it. Snapshot Archive

- List the public URLs and define the purpose: visual change tracking, citation preservation, an organizational web collection, or a compliance record.
- Run a pilot on representative pages, including dynamic pages, long pages, and pages with embedded assets.
- Inspect samples for blank areas, missing images, redirects, timestamps, and variation between runs. Confirm that the chosen capture mode records the parts of the page you actually need.
- Review failed and partial captures periodically. Where preservation stakes justify it, keep a separate copy of files and an index of source URL, capture time, and archive link.
Does Save Page Now capture a page every day?
No. The Internet Archive describes Save Page Now as a way to save a specific page one time. It is a manual submission, not a recurring schedule. The Archive says the capture saves a single page, including images and CSS when available; it does not save the page’s outlinks or start a whole-site crawl. - Open the Wayback Machine.
- Enter the public page URL in the Save Page Now field and submit it.
- When a capture is returned, retain its archived link alongside the source URL and the time you submitted it.
A Save Page Now capture can be useful as a one-time reference, but it does not enroll the page for future captures. The Internet Archive also says it cannot guarantee that a site has been or will be archived. Some pages may fail or be excluded.
Why an archived page may be incomplete or missing
The Internet Archive lists crawler discovery, password protection, robots.txt restrictions, inaccessibility, and an owner’s exclusion request among reasons a site may not appear. Its Help Center also notes that JavaScript behavior, missing resources, server-side interactions, and orphan pages can lead to incomplete captures; simple HTML is generally easier to archive. Screenshot monitoring or web archiving: which fits?
A scheduled screenshot is a recurring visual record of selected URLs. A web archive or managed crawl is intended to preserve web content at a broader scope. A screenshot can show what a service rendered at a particular time, but it does not by itself establish that the underlying page was complete, served identically to every viewer, or legally admissible.

For an institutional collection, compare Archive-It’s current scope and support with the requirements of the collection. For any option, consider capture frequency, collection or page scope, visual versus source-file output, retention, export and portability, alerts, authentication, access controls, cost, and documentation of failed or partial captures.

How to keep a useful record
Keep the evidence appropriate to the purpose. For ordinary visual tracking, retain the source URL, capture time, and service’s archived or exported result, and periodically inspect samples. If you need more control, keep local copies and an index of those details. For high-stakes records, assess provenance and evidentiary requirements with an appropriate professional; a timestamped screenshot is not automatically legally authenticated.
