Firefox can save an entire webpage as an image, but its built-in full-page capture does not promise to include the browser’s address bar. To make the URL visible in the PNG, use a tool that adds a URL bar or URL stamp, or pair the full-page image with a separate screenshot of the browser window. The right choice depends on whether you need one image with the address embedded or simply a visual record of the page and its source.
What a full-page screenshot does—and does not—capture
A full-page screenshot captures the rendered webpage beyond the part currently visible in the browser window. The address bar is browser chrome, not webpage content, so a page capture and a browser-window screenshot are different things. Mozilla documents Firefox’s full-page image capture, but does not say that the address bar appears in that image. Mozilla’s screenshot instructions describe the webpage image workflow.
If the URL must appear inside the same PNG, use an extension or capture tool that explicitly adds a URL bar or URL stamp, then inspect the image to ensure the complete address is visible. If you only need supporting context, take a separate screenshot of the browser window with the address bar showing and keep it with the full-page PNG. That gives you two files, not one continuous image with browser chrome above the full page.

Save a full-page image with Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool
- Open the exact page you want to archive and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page. Do not choose Save visible if you need content beyond the current window.
- Choose Download to save the image in Firefox’s configured download folder.
Firefox names downloaded captures with a screenshot prefix, date and time, and page title. This flow saves an image of the page; it does not guarantee that the address bar is included. These controls are documented in Mozilla Support, whose page was accessed October 3, 2026 and stated it had been updated three weeks earlier.

Use Firefox Developer Tools for repeatable captures
Firefox Developer Tools provide two ways to request a full-page capture. In Developer Tools settings, enable the toolbox button labeled Take a screenshot of the entire page, then click that button to save the screenshot in Downloads. The Web Console’s :screenshot helper is useful when you want to specify a filename:
:screenshot --fullpage --filename=archive-2026-10-03.pngThe --fullpage option captures beyond the current window bounds, and --filename sets a PNG name. Choose a unique filename each time: reusing one overwrites the prior image. Firefox documents these controls in its Web Console helper commands.
Developer Tools still capture the webpage, not a guaranteed browser address bar. Use a URL-stamp method if the address must be in the same image.

Firefox add-on: Screenshot with URL – Full Page Screenshot
The Firefox Add-ons listing for Screenshot with URL – Full Page Screenshot advertises full-page capture with or without the URL bar, automatic URL and timestamp, and PNG, JPEG, or PDF output. These are third-party add-on features, not built-in Firefox guarantees. The listing identifies access to clipboard, downloads and download history, browser tabs, and website data. It also includes the developer’s statement that the extension does not require data collection; treat that as the developer’s claim, and review the live listing and permissions before installing. The listing showed version 1.7.2 and a last-updated date of September 8, 2026.
Chrome or Edge publisher option: FullPage Capture
The FullPage Capture publisher page describes whole-page PNG/JPG capture with an optional address/date stamp, including styles resembling browser frames, and says captures are made in the browser and saved locally. Those are publisher statements, not independent verification. Review its current details and confirm the output displays the whole URL before using it as an archive record. FullPage Capture lists its page as updated September 29, 2026.
Use two screenshots when you do not want an extension
Capture the page with Firefox’s full-page workflow, then separately capture the browser window with the address bar visible. Keep both files together and name them clearly. A filename containing a URL slug and capture date can aid organization, but it does not make the URL visible inside the PNG. Long addresses may be clipped even in URL-stamp tools, so verify that the complete intended address is legible.

Archive checklist: preserve a useful visual record
- Open the exact URL and wait until the desired page state is present, including any content that loads after a delay.
- Decide whether you need only the rendered page, or the URL visibly printed in the image.
- For Firefox’s built-in method, use Take Screenshot → Save full page → Download; for repeatable developer capture, use the Developer Tools button or
:screenshot --fullpage. - If using a URL bar or stamp, inspect the PNG and confirm the full intended address is present rather than truncated.
- Save each capture under a unique filename. Inspect the top, middle, and bottom for missing lazy-loaded content, repeated sticky headers, or truncated sections.
- Keep the source URL and capture time separately if the image is being used as a record. A screenshot is a visual rendering; the cited documentation does not establish that an image alone proves a page’s authenticity or completeness.
PNG is a sensible choice when text clarity matters. The cited sources do not establish a comparative file-size or quality benchmark for these methods.

Common problems and fixes
The image shows only the visible portion
In Firefox’s screenshot interface, choose Save full page, not Save visible. In the console, include --fullpage with :screenshot.
The URL is missing
The built-in Firefox page screenshot does not promise browser chrome. Use an extension that advertises a URL bar or stamp, or keep a separate browser-window screenshot alongside the full-page image.
The address is cut off
Long URLs may exceed the space provided by a bar or stamp. Inspect the output and use a method or layout that shows the complete address before treating the image as evidence of the URL.

A previous capture disappeared
If you used Firefox’s :screenshot --filename option with a filename already in use, the new capture overwrote the old one. Use a unique filename for each run.
Some page content is absent or repeated
Dynamic pages may load images or other content as you scroll, and sticky elements can appear repeatedly in long captures. Wait for the page state you need, then inspect the top, middle, and bottom of the saved image; Firefox’s documented controls do not guarantee perfect rendering on every site.
FAQ
Does a full-page PNG prove that the page was authentic or complete?
No. It records a visual rendering. Keep the source URL and capture time separately, and do not treat the screenshot alone as proof of authenticity or completeness.
Should I choose PNG, JPEG, or PDF?
For a screenshot where readable page text is the priority, PNG is a reasonable choice. The cited extension listing advertises PNG, JPEG, and PDF, but the sources provide no benchmark establishing a best format for every page.
