Open the UPI or bank app that shows the transaction, capture its status and identifying details, then preserve the original screenshot and make a separate PDF copy if useful. Save the complaint reference and later updates too. A screenshot records what the app displayed; it is not necessarily a bank statement, and acceptance depends on the institution handling your case.
What to capture for a UPI refund record
In your UPI app or bank app, open transaction history and select the relevant payment, refund, failed debit, or complaint record. Capture the transaction detail screen and, if available, the complaint reference or complaint-status screen. NPCI’s UPI Help guideline depicts transaction-history and transaction-detail screens with fields such as transaction ID, date, time, amount, and payer or payee identifiers (NPCI UPI Help).
Make sure the private evidence copy clearly shows as many of these as the app provides:

- Current status and the date and time shown.
- Amount and transaction ID or 12-digit RRN.
- The app or bank identity and relevant payer/payee details.
- Complaint reference number and complaint status, if you have raised a complaint.
If the details do not fit on one screen, take more than one screenshot. Do not assume your particular app has a special “download refund page” button: available screens and export features vary by app, version, phone, and institution.

Save the screenshot and make a PDF copy
- Capture the relevant screens using your phone’s screenshot function. Keep the original files unchanged.
- To create a PDF, use your phone’s built-in image share, print, or document-save option if available. Menu names and steps differ by device and app; there is no universal screenshot-to-PDF sequence established for every phone.
- Check that the PDF is readable and includes the status and transaction details. Keep the original screenshot as well; a PDF made from it is another copy, not a more authoritative record.
- Use a descriptive filename, for example
UPI-refund-status_2026-10-03_appname.pdf. Note the capture date if it is not apparent from the file or screen. - Store both files privately. If you need to share an image publicly, make a separate redacted copy and leave the original untouched.
Screenshot, PDF, and bank statement: what each record establishes

Save both the app capture and any official statement the bank or provider asks for. Do not describe a screenshot as legally conclusive or assume every institution will accept it as the required proof.
Keep records private and follow the case over time
Transaction screens can expose UPI IDs, names, account fragments, amounts, and transaction identifiers. Keep unredacted evidence in a private location; never send anyone your UPI PIN, OTP, or password. For public sharing, create a copy and redact sensitive details without altering your preserved original.

Save the complaint reference and capture later status checks as they change. NPCI says its portal can facilitate transaction-status checks and complaint registration with member institutions; users can check the final status with the bank or institution using transaction details or the complaint reference. NPCI’s page requests details including bank, transaction date, 12-digit transaction number/RRN, account number, and amount, and says the member institution is responsible for resolving the complaint (NPCI UPI dispute redressal).

Google Pay India cases covered by its help guidance
Google Pay’s India guidance says a transaction in progress may take up to three working days to resolve, and a failed debit is credited back within three working days in the scenarios it describes. This is Google Pay-specific guidance, not a guaranteed timeline for every UPI app, bank, or refund type (Google Pay Help).

For those Google Pay cases, if money has not been credited after three working days, its guidance says to raise an in-app ticket. The illustrated route is transaction history → select the transaction → “Having issues?” → follow the instructions. A bank statement may be requested. If the money was debited and the merchant says it did not receive the credit or refund, Google Pay directs users to contact their bank about a chargeback; if the issue remains unresolved, its page points to NPCI’s dispute redressal portal (Google Pay Help).
NPCI complaints and unauthorised transactions
Use the NPCI process to check status or register a complaint with the relevant member institution, but expect the bank or institution to handle resolution. For a fraudulent or unauthorised transaction, NPCI instructs customers to raise the matter with their bank; treat that as a separate urgent issue, not an ordinary refund delay (NPCI UPI dispute redressal; NPCI UPI Help).
