Choose what to capture
Start by deciding how much context the person receiving the image needs. FireShot describes three capture scopes: full page, visible area, and a selected region. A full-page shot is useful for showing a long page’s layout or where an issue occurs in the broader flow. A visible-area capture focuses on what is currently on screen. A selection is suited to a single component, message, or visual detail.
Before capturing, navigate to the state you want to document. If the relevant content is below the fold, scroll to it before choosing a visible-area capture, or use full-page capture when the surrounding page matters. For a narrow bug report, a selection can keep unrelated content out of the image. Consider whether the recipient will need nearby labels or page context to understand the marked area.
FireShot’s feature information lists all three capture types, but does not establish a single set of exact button names or menu locations across browsers and versions. Use the capture controls shown by your installed extension rather than relying on instructions for a different browser build.

Annotate the screenshot in FireShot
- Capture the page or region. Select full-page, visible-area, or selection capture according to the context you need. Follow the controls in your installed FireShot extension.
- Open the result in the editor. FireShot describes an editor for changes after capture. Its documentation lists shape, drawing, pointer, text, and image controls for annotation objects. The available controls may depend on the extension edition and browser.
- Use one clear mark for each point. Add an arrow to direct the eye to a specific control or error. Use a shape to outline a region. Add a short text note when the mark alone would be ambiguous. Keep notes brief and place them where they do not obscure the interface detail being discussed.
- Review the image at normal size. Check that arrows point to the intended target, text is legible, and marks do not cover other evidence. If the screenshot is crowded, capture a smaller area or divide the explanation across multiple screenshots instead of layering on more annotations.
- Save or share the edited result. FireShot lists PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, and BMP, as well as clipboard, email, upload, OneNote, and export routes. Which choices appear can vary by browser and installed version.
Pick the annotation for the job
- Arrow: directs attention to one point, such as a button, text field, or unexpected element.
- Shape: outlines an area when the target has a boundary or spans more than one control.
- Text: explains what the recipient should notice, what action led to the result, or what is expected instead.
Use the smallest annotation that removes uncertainty. For example, outline a region and add a short note if the issue concerns a whole panel; use an arrow if a single icon is the problem. Keep observations separate from conclusions: “button is clipped at 125% zoom” tells a developer what was observed, while “CSS is broken” guesses at the cause.
Crop, highlight, blur, and clean up
FireShot lists crop, resize, highlight, blur, and erase among its editing actions. These can help focus attention or prepare an image for sharing. Cropping can remove unrelated areas; resizing can make a file easier to send; highlighting can emphasize a section without adding a long explanation.
Blur can obscure visible details, but do not treat it as forensic redaction or assume it removes underlying source data. If a screenshot contains confidential information, avoid sharing it unless you have verified that the sensitive material is safely removed from the exported image. A visual edit is not a substitute for an organization’s data-handling rules.

Check which FireShot features your edition includes
Annotation availability is not described identically across FireShot’s browser listings. The Chrome Web Store listing separates basic capture capabilities from editing tools described under an available upgrade, including text and arrow annotations, blur, and other effects. The Firefox listing describes crop, arrows, text, and export for the extension it lists. Check your installed extension’s edition and the current listing for your browser before planning a workflow around a particular editing control.
FireShot’s own product and installation information lists support for Chromium-based browsers and names browsers including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Tor, Opera, Brave, SeaMonkey, Pale Moon, Yandex, and Vivaldi. Treat that as the vendor’s stated compatibility, not a guarantee that every feature is available in every browser release. If an option shown in a tutorial is missing, first verify that the extension is installed in the browser you are using and that its edition includes the feature.
Save and share the right output
Choose the output based on how the screenshot will be used. An image is convenient for issue trackers, chat, or documentation that displays images inline. A PDF may be more suitable when the recipient needs a document-like file. FireShot lists PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP, and PDF, plus clipboard, email, upload, OneNote, and export options; the exact choices can depend on the installed version and browser.

For a quick review, paste from the clipboard if that option is available. For a durable bug report, save the annotated image and attach it to the ticket so it stays associated with the issue. If you use an upload, email, or other third-party destination, review its sharing settings and audience separately from FireShot’s capture behavior.
Privacy and local capture
FireShot’s official page describes captures as local and says the tool can work offline. The Chrome listing likewise says screenshots are stored locally. Those statements concern the capture or storage behavior described by FireShot and the listing; they do not cover what happens after you choose to email, upload, or share an image through another service. Treat the destination’s own handling and access controls as a separate decision.

The editor or annotation tools are missing
Check the browser listing and your installed edition: Chrome’s listing describes certain editing tools under an available upgrade, while the Firefox listing describes editing capabilities for its extension. Confirm that the extension is enabled in the browser where you captured the page, then consult the current listing for that browser. Do not assume the same feature set across editions.

Check whether you selected visible-area or full-page capture. The visible-area option captures what is currently on screen; use the full-page option when the page extends beyond the viewport. If only one region is relevant, selection capture may be clearer than annotating a full-page image.

The annotation obscures the detail
Move or remove the mark, shorten the note, or recapture a tighter region. The goal is to point out the evidence without covering it. Review the saved result before sending it.
An export or sharing option is absent
FireShot lists several output formats and sharing routes, but availability can vary by installed version and browser. Check the controls offered by your current extension. If a direct route is unavailable, save in an available image format and attach that file using the destination service’s own upload flow.
You cannot use the capture offline
FireShot says it can work offline, but that does not mean every website can be captured without a network connection. A page that is not already available in the browser may need connectivity to load before capture. Also distinguish the capture step from a later upload or email, which requires the relevant destination to be reachable.
