To unblock pop-ups in Chrome, change the Pop-ups and redirects setting for all sites or allow a specific site from Chrome’s blocked-pop-up prompt. The steps differ on computer, Android, and iPhone or iPad.
Allow pop-ups on a computer
Chrome blocks pop-ups by default. When it blocks one, a “Pop-up blocked” indicator appears in the address bar.
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu) > Settings.
- Select Privacy and security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
- Choose the default behavior you want. This setting controls both pop-ups and redirects. Google’s computer instructions show the current setting path.
Allow pop-ups from one computer site
- Open the page where Chrome blocked the pop-up.
- Select the Pop-up blocked indicator in the address bar.
- Select the pop-up link you want to open.
- Choose the option to always allow pop-ups and redirects from that site, then select Done.
To remove an exception later, return to Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects. Find the site in the allowed list and choose Block. To enter a domain and its subdomains as a site pattern, Google gives [*.]example.com as an example.
Allow pop-ups on Android
- Open Chrome and tap More beside the address bar.
- Tap Settings > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
- Change the setting to the behavior you want.
To allow a pop-up on one page, return to it and tap Always show when Chrome displays that option. See Google’s Android instructions.

Allow pop-ups on iPhone or iPad
- Open Chrome and tap More > Settings.
- Tap Content Settings > Block Pop-ups.
- Turn Block Pop-ups off to allow them, or on to block them.
To allow one pop-up, return to the page and tap Always show beneath the “Pop-ups blocked” message. Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions cover this setting and prompt.
If pop-ups still appear or the setting is unavailable
Check notification permissions
Website notifications are separate from pop-ups. If a site keeps sending messages after you change the pop-up setting, it may have permission to send notifications. On a computer, open the site’s information control and set Notifications to Block; you can also review site permissions in Site Settings. Google explains how to manage site permissions.

Consider unwanted software if behavior persists
Pop-up ads or new tabs that will not go away, settings changing without permission, unwanted extensions returning, unfamiliar redirects, or virus alerts can be signs of unwanted software or malware. These symptoms alone do not prove that a device is infected. Do not click suspicious pop-ups that claim you need an update or download; visit the program’s official website instead. Google lists these warning signs in its unwanted ads and malware guidance for iPhone and iPad.
Ask an administrator about a managed device
On a Chrome device managed by a work or school network, an administrator may lock the pop-up setting. If you cannot change it, ask your organization’s administrator.
