To brighten a photo in Samsung Gallery, open it, tap Edit, adjust the available light controls, then tap Done. Samsung lists Brightness, Exposure, Contrast, and Highlights; the exact controls can vary by Galaxy model and software version. To keep the untouched image, choose More options (three vertical dots) > Save as copy when available.
Adjust brightness and darker areas in Samsung Gallery
- Open Gallery and select the photo.
- Tap Edit, usually shown as a pencil icon.
- Open the light-adjustment controls. Samsung’s US editing guide lists Brightness, Exposure, Contrast, and Highlights (Samsung Gallery editing guide).
- Make a small adjustment, then inspect the photo before changing another control. When lifting dark areas, check that bright areas still show detail and shadows retain texture. This is a practical editing check, not a guarantee: if the original image contains no recorded detail in a clipped area, an adjustment cannot restore it.
- Tap Done when the result looks right.
Samsung’s US support page does not list a universal tonal Shadows slider. If your version of Gallery does not show one, try Brightness or Exposure conservatively and check the result. The separate Erase shadows option in Samsung’s Caribbean instructions is an object-erasure feature, not a control for brightening dark tones across the photo (Samsung object eraser instructions).
Keep the original or undo your changes
Save an edited copy
After editing, tap More options (three vertical dots) > Save as copy if that option appears. Samsung documents this route for keeping the original alongside the edited photo (Samsung Gallery editing guide). If the menu on your phone differs, check the available save options before confirming.

Use the undo and redo arrows in the editor to step through recent changes. To discard the full edit sequence after saving, Samsung documents Revert > Revert to original (Samsung photo editing basics). This removes the edits; it is not a substitute for keeping a separate copy if you want both versions.

Why the controls may look different
Samsung’s support instructions cover Galaxy Gallery workflows, but menu labels and adjustment availability can differ by model and software version. The US guide names Brightness, Exposure, Contrast, and Highlights; it does not establish that every device has the same controls or layout. Follow the labels shown in your own editor, and use Save as copy when available if preserving the source matters (Samsung US editing guide; Samsung Caribbean instructions).
