You can add a Teams meeting from Outlook without opening Teams first, but the steps depend on your Outlook version. New Outlook and Outlook on the web use a built-in Teams meeting toggle, while classic Outlook for Windows depends on the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.
Before troubleshooting, check that you are using a supported Microsoft 365 work or school account connected to Exchange. Personal Microsoft accounts, free Outlook.com accounts, and POP or IMAP accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud are not supported for creating Teams meetings through Outlook.
Choose your Outlook version
| Outlook version | How Teams is integrated | Where you add Teams |
|---|---|---|
| New Outlook for Windows | Built into Outlook; no COM add-in | Teams meeting toggle in a new event |
| Classic Outlook for Windows | Microsoft Teams Meeting COM add-in | Teams Meeting button on the meeting ribbon |
| Outlook for Mac | Built into the event form | Teams Meeting toggle |
| Outlook on the web | Built into the calendar | Teams meeting toggle |
| Outlook for iOS or Android | Built into the mobile app | Teams Meeting toggle in a new event |
If you are unsure which Windows version you have, compare the interface. New Outlook generally has a simplified, web-like layout and a switch labelled New Outlook. Classic Outlook has the traditional desktop ribbon with tabs such as File, Home, and Send/Receive.

- Open Outlook.
- Select Calendar.
- Select New event.
- Enter the event title.
- Turn on the Teams meeting toggle next to the event title.
- Add the attendees, date, time, location, and agenda.
- Select Send.
Outlook inserts the Teams join information when it sends the invitation. This includes the meeting link and, where available, meeting ID, passcode, and dial-in details.
Important: saving a draft does not create the Teams link
In new Outlook, selecting Save as draft saves the event without the Teams join details. Send the invitation when you need Outlook to add the meeting information.
Remove Teams before sending
Turn off the Teams meeting toggle in the event form. Microsoft’s supported workflow does not provide a way to remove Teams from the meeting after the invitation has been sent.
Add a Teams meeting in classic Outlook for Windows
Classic Outlook uses the Teams Meeting add-in installed with the Teams desktop client.
- Open Outlook.
- On the Home tab, select the dropdown arrow beside New Email.
- Select Meeting.
- On the Meeting tab, select the dropdown arrow beside Teams Meeting.
- Select Schedule meeting.
- Check that Teams join information appears in the meeting body.
- Enter the subject, attendees, date, time, and any notes.
- Select Send.
Depending on your Outlook build and ribbon customization, you may see a slightly different route:
- Open Calendar.
- Select Home > New Meeting.
- Select Teams Meeting on the meeting ribbon.
The command may be labelled New Meeting, Teams Meeting, or appear under a dropdown. The important requirement is that the Teams meeting information is visible in the message body before you send the invitation.
Configure Teams meeting options
To change who can bypass the lobby, who can present, or other meeting controls, select Set up in the Teams section of the meeting form. In the Set up your Teams meeting pane, select All options to open the complete Teams meeting-options page.
Remove Teams before sending
While composing the meeting, select More commands > Don’t Host Online. This removes the online-meeting details before the invitation is sent. As with new Outlook, removing Teams after sending is not supported through the normal Outlook workflow.

Add a Teams meeting in Outlook for Mac
In Outlook for Microsoft 365 for Mac, Teams scheduling is built into the event form when Teams is your organization’s online-meeting provider.
- Open Outlook.
- Select Calendar.
- Select New Event.
- Enter the event name.
- Add attendees under Add required people. Use Optional for optional attendees.
- Set the date and time.
- Turn on the Teams Meeting toggle.
- Add an agenda or other notes.
- Select Save.
Online meetings in Outlook for Mac require an Office 365, Exchange, or supported Outlook.com account. IMAP and POP accounts do not support this integration.
Add a Teams meeting in Outlook on the web
Outlook on the web for a Microsoft 365 work or school mailbox uses the same basic event form as new Outlook.
- Open Outlook in your browser and sign in with your work or school account.
- Select Calendar.
- Select New event.
- Turn on the Teams meeting toggle next to the title.
- Add attendees, date, time, and meeting details.
- Select Send.
Do not confuse Outlook on the web for a Microsoft 365 organization with a free personal Outlook.com mailbox. Personal, POP, and IMAP accounts are not supported for the Outlook Teams scheduling workflow.
Add a Teams meeting in Outlook mobile
The Outlook app for iOS and Android can add Teams to an event when the account and organization support the feature.
- Open the Outlook mobile app.
- Tap Calendar.
- Tap New Event.
- Turn on the Teams Meeting toggle.
- Enter the title, invitees, date, time, and other details.
- Tap Save.
The option can depend on your Microsoft 365 account and your organization’s release schedule. If it is missing, update Outlook and confirm that the event is being created in your work or school account rather than a personal account.
Make every Outlook meeting a Teams meeting
If most of your meetings are online, configure Outlook to add Teams automatically. You can still turn Teams off for an individual event before sending it.
New Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web
- Open Calendar.
- Select Calendar settings.
- Select Events and invitations.
- Under Events you create, select Add online meeting to all meetings.
- Under Choose a meeting provider, select Microsoft Teams.
- If you have more than one account, select the correct account in the account dropdown.
- Select Save.
This setting applies at the account level. If Teams appears to be selected but new meetings do not contain a Teams link, check that you changed the setting for the mailbox where the event is being created.

Organization-wide default
A Microsoft 365 administrator can enable online meetings by default for the organization with Exchange Online PowerShell:
Set-OrganizationConfig -OnlineMeetingsByDefaultEnabled $true
The setting uses the OnlineMeetingsByDefaultEnabled parameter. It does not replace the need for an eligible mailbox and supported Teams configuration.
Teams meeting option missing: fixes by Outlook version
New Outlook has no Teams meeting toggle
New Outlook requires Outlook and Teams to be signed in with the same work or school account. It also requires the new Teams desktop client, not just Teams in a browser.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Close Outlook.
- Right-click the Teams icon in the Windows taskbar notification area.
- Select Quit Teams.
- Start Teams and sign in with the same organizational account used in Outlook.
- Start Outlook and create a new event.
If you are using only the Teams web client, install and sign in to the Teams desktop client first.
Classic Outlook add-in is disabled
- In Outlook, select File > Options.
- Select Add-ins.
- Look for Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office under Active Application Add-ins.
- If it appears under disabled add-ins, select Manage > COM Add-ins > Go.
- Select the checkbox for Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.
- Select OK in each dialog.
- Restart Outlook.
Outlook can disable the add-in automatically after detecting a startup or performance problem. Re-enabling it may fix the missing button, but repeated disabling usually indicates a Teams, Office, or add-in installation problem.
The add-in disappeared after switching to new Teams
In classic Outlook, reinstalling the add-in through Teams can restore the button:
- Right-click Start and select Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Search for Teams Meeting Add-in.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it and choose Uninstall.
- Close Outlook.
- Quit Teams from the system tray.
- Start the new Teams client again.
- Wait for Teams Meeting Add-in to reappear under Installed Apps.
- Restart Outlook.
Restarting the new Teams client forces it to reinstall the classic Outlook add-in.
Outlook and Teams have different administrator permissions
The classic add-in can fail when Outlook runs as administrator but Teams does not, or the other way around. Close both applications and start them normally. In particular, make sure Outlook is not running in Administrator mode.

Advanced repair for the classic add-in
Use this procedure only after enabling, restarting, updating, and reinstalling the add-in. It requires an elevated Command Prompt and the correct Office bitness.
- Close Outlook.
- Exit Teams.
- Open
%LocalAppData%MicrosoftTeamsMeetingAddin. - Open the folder with the highest build number.
- Open an elevated Command Prompt.
- Run the command for your Office installation.
For 64-bit Office:
%SystemRoot%System32regsvr32.exe /n /i:user "<path-to-version-folder>x64Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll"
For 32-bit Office:
%SystemRoot%SysWOW64regsvr32.exe /n /i:user "<path-to-version-folder>x86Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll"
- Restart Teams.
- Sign out of Teams and sign back in.
- Restart Outlook.
- Confirm Outlook is not running as administrator.
The version folder and DLL path vary by installation. Do not copy a guessed path; use the highest-build folder actually present under %LocalAppData%MicrosoftTeamsMeetingAddin.
Check the add-in load setting
In Registry Editor, open:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftOfficeOutlookAddinsTeamsAddin.FastConnect
The LoadBehavior value should be 3. Back up the registry before making changes. An incorrect registry edit can damage Outlook or Windows.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →When a delegate’s Teams link is missing
A delegate creating a Teams meeting in another person’s calendar may produce an invitation without the meeting URL, meeting ID, passcode, or dial-in numbers. One documented cause is that the delegator’s mailbox is hidden from the Global Address List.
An Exchange Online administrator can unhide the mailbox with:
Set-Mailbox -Identity <delegator’s email address> -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $false
After the mailbox is visible in the GAL, the delegate should restart Outlook and create a new meeting request. This is an administrator-level fix; it is not normally something the delegate can correct from Outlook’s interface.
Recurring Teams meetings and attendee updates
Recurring meetings have two details that often cause confusion:

Update before attempting complex repairs
Microsoft fixed a compatibility issue in which classic Outlook could crash and open in Safe Mode with older Outlook builds and Teams Meeting Add-in build 1.26.02603. An example of an affected build was Outlook Version 2402, Build 17328.20142 or earlier. The Teams-side fix was included in Teams version 26058.712.4527.9297, with deployment beginning March 30, 2026.

What Outlook cannot currently do
Outlook can create a standard Teams meeting for invited people, but Microsoft currently states that Teams channel meetings cannot be scheduled in Outlook. Create a channel meeting from Teams instead.
FAQ
Why is the Teams button missing in new Outlook?
New Outlook does not use the classic COM add-in. Make sure Outlook and the new Teams desktop client are signed in with the same work or school account, quit Teams, restart it, and then restart Outlook.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Can I use a Gmail or personal Outlook account to create a Teams meeting in Outlook?
No. Microsoft’s supported Outlook scheduling workflow excludes personal Microsoft accounts, free Outlook.com accounts, and POP or IMAP accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud. Use a supported Microsoft 365 work or school Exchange account.
Does saving a new Outlook event create the Teams meeting link?
No. In new Outlook, the Teams join details are added when you send the invitation. Saving the event as a draft does not add the join information.
Can Teams be removed from an Outlook meeting after it has been sent?
Microsoft’s supported Outlook workflow allows you to turn Teams off before sending, but does not provide a supported way to remove Teams after the invitation has been sent.
Do I need the Teams desktop app for classic Outlook?
Yes. The classic Outlook Teams Meeting add-in requires the Teams desktop client. Using Teams only in a web browser is not enough to install or load the classic Outlook add-in.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why does a delegate’s Teams invitation have no join link?
A hidden delegator mailbox in the Global Address List can prevent the Teams details from being generated. An Exchange Online administrator may need to unhide the mailbox, after which the delegate should restart Outlook and create a new invitation.
The Bottom Line
For new Outlook, Outlook on the web, Mac, and mobile, create a calendar event and turn on Teams meeting. For classic Outlook on Windows, create a meeting and select Teams Meeting > Schedule meeting; if the button is missing, check the Teams desktop client and the COM add-in. Use a Microsoft 365 work or school Exchange account, and send the invitation when you need Outlook to generate the Teams join details.
