To keep podcast cover art visible while audio plays in a continuous YouTube live broadcast, make a video scene with the cover as its still image and the podcast audio as its audio source, then send that feed to YouTube through an encoder. YouTube’s RSS podcast feature is different: it creates individual episode videos with show art, not an always-on live stream.
Choose a live stream or podcast episode uploads
Pick the workflow by the result you want. An encoder-based YouTube Live broadcast can present a still cover image alongside podcast audio. RSS ingestion, by contrast, creates videos for podcast episodes and can upload new episodes from a feed; it is not a way to keep a channel live continuously. RSS ingestion is available only in select countries or regions, and its availability may change. YouTube’s RSS feed guidance and podcast distribution guidance explain those episode-publishing options.
| Route | What it produces | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Encoder-based YouTube Live | A live audiovisual feed, such as podcast audio with cover art on screen | You want a live broadcast rather than separate episode uploads | Requires a configured live stream and encoder. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not promise indefinite operation or specify a duration for this exact use. |
| RSS ingestion | Static-image videos for selected podcast episodes using show art | You want feed-based publishing of on-demand episodes | Available only in select regions. Changes to show details or replacement audio do not update videos already uploaded; re-uploading a revised episode creates a new video and makes the old one private. |
| Static-image or audiogram upload | A regular on-demand podcast video | You want an episode video without RSS ingestion | This is an upload, not a live broadcast. |
What you need before setting up the broadcast
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming tips for eligibility guidance.
- A cover image and podcast audio that you have rights to use in a live broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can cause a placeholder image to replace the stream, an interruption, or termination. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
- An encoder that can combine a still image and an audio source. The scene setup below is a practical implementation of YouTube’s encoder workflow; YouTube’s reviewed help pages do not prescribe a particular OBS scene or other encoder interface.
- A reliable upload connection. YouTube recommends maintaining 20% bandwidth headroom and warns that network disruption can break a stream. This is general operational advice, not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
How to add podcast cover art to a YouTube live stream
- Confirm that you want a live broadcast. If you only need one video per podcast episode, use RSS ingestion where available or upload a static-image video instead. RSS publishing does not keep the show live continuously.
- Check live-stream eligibility. Verify the channel and confirm it has not had a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. If you cannot start a live stream, resolve eligibility restrictions before troubleshooting the encoder.
- Create a scene in your encoder. Add the podcast cover art as the visual and route the podcast audio into the scene as its audio source. Keep the image visible for the intended broadcast and check that the audio is actually reaching the encoder. Exact control names depend on the encoder; YouTube’s documentation describes encoder streaming but does not provide an app-specific scene recipe.
- Set up the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or configure a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube describes the key as functioning like the stream’s password and address, so keep it private and do not include it in screenshots or public notes. See Manage live stream settings.
- Check the encoder and YouTube previews. Confirm the cover is framed as intended, the audio is audible and correctly routed, and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview receives the feed before you start the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow and stream-key setup are documented in its live-streaming tips and stream settings guidance.
- Review rights and disclosures, then go live. Clear both the image and all audio, including music, clips, and any material included in the recording, for live use. If the podcast contains sponsorships or endorsements, follow YouTube’s branded-content disclosure requirements described in its podcast distribution guidance.
- Monitor the connection. Leave the recommended upload-bandwidth headroom and watch for network interruptions. A successful encoder setup does not establish that the broadcast will remain uninterrupted indefinitely.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you already have a video file of the podcast with its cover image on screen, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos as a YouTube live stream from the cloud. Upload the prepared video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it supports the quality of the uploaded file up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start a free day with StreamNeo.

Common problems and fixes
- The channel is not allowed to go live: Check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction occurred in the previous 90 days before changing encoder settings.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck that the stream URL and key in the encoder match the stream configured in Live Control Room. Treat the key as a secret; if it has been exposed, replace it through YouTube’s stream settings.
- The audio plays but the image is missing or wrong: Check the encoder scene’s still-image source and confirm the intended cover appears in both the encoder preview and YouTube preview before going live.
- The cover appears but there is no podcast audio: Confirm the podcast audio is selected and routed to the encoder’s output, then verify it in the preview before starting the broadcast.
- The stream interrupts or stops: Check connection stability and upload capacity, allowing the 20% headroom YouTube recommends. YouTube notes network disruption can break streams; the margin is guidance, not a continuity guarantee.
- The live feed is replaced or interrupted after starting: Review the art, recording, music, and any other third-party material for rights. YouTube’s live copyright detection may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it.
- An RSS-edited episode still shows its old details or audio: Feed edits do not automatically revise an already uploaded video. YouTube says to re-upload the revised episode; that creates a new video and makes the old one private.
