To upload selected pictures, open Dropbox on your iPad, go to the destination folder, tap +, choose Upload Photos, select the pictures, set the location, and tap Upload. For ongoing backup instead, turn on Camera uploads in the Dropbox app.
Upload selected photos from your iPad

Open the Dropbox app and sign in.

Open the Dropbox folder where you want the photos saved.

Tap + at the bottom of the screen, then choose Upload Photos.

Select the photos you want to add.

Tap Next, choose the destination folder, and tap Set location.

Tap Upload. Dropbox says uploaded files sync wherever you access your Dropbox account. The labels or button placement may vary by app version; look for the closest matching upload option. Dropbox’s mobile upload instructions describe this flow.
You can also send a photo to Dropbox from another app: select the item, tap that app’s Share control, choose Dropbox, select a save location, and save it.

Choose between manual upload and automatic backup

Turn on Camera uploads

Open Dropbox and tap your account icon.

Tap Camera uploads.

Tap Upload from, then Settings, and allow access to your photos and videos when iPadOS prompts you.

Choose what to back up and whether to allow cellular data, then turn on Camera uploads.

If you want to avoid using mobile data, disable the cellular-data option. Camera uploads is an optional setting rather than a requirement for manual uploads. See Dropbox’s Camera uploads instructions for the documented setup.
Upload a large photo or video library
Dropbox documents an iOS overnight-uploads option for large batches. In Dropbox, tap the camera icon and start overnight uploads. Keep Dropbox open, connect the iPad to Wi-Fi, and plug it into a charger while the upload runs; Dropbox’s instructions do not say this process can finish with the app closed. Dropbox explains the overnight-upload requirements.

Keep Live Photos and understand image formats
Live Photos
Dropbox’s iOS app supports Live Photo uploads. Depending on the upload flow, you can retain the Live Photo or save it as a still image; a HEIC Live Photo can also be saved as JPG. See Dropbox’s Live Photos guidance.
HEIC photos and HEVC videos
Dropbox supports HEIF (.heic) photos and HEVC-encoded MOV videos. Camera uploads can instead save HEIF/HEVC items as JPG or non-HEVC MOV. Dropbox notes that JPG is likely to be more compatible for people without Apple devices, but conversion removes some HEIF features. Changing the conversion setting applies to future uploads, not files already uploaded. Details are in Dropbox’s HEIF and HEVC compatibility guidance.

Find photos after upload
Open the Dropbox folder you selected to see the uploaded files. Dropbox also offers a Photos view for eligible photo and video types; its help page lists this view for Basic, Plus, Family, and Professional plans. See Dropbox’s Photos view information for recognized file types and availability.
