You can add multiple image galleries to a WordPress post or page without a plugin. In the Block Editor, insert a separate Gallery block at each position where a gallery should appear, then choose and arrange that block’s images. In the Classic Editor, use Add Media → Create a Gallery at each position.
Use separate Gallery blocks in the Block Editor
Each Gallery block is its own editable unit, so you can place galleries between paragraphs or headings, give each one a different image set, and adjust its display options independently. WordPress documents the Gallery block as a way to add multiple photos and arrange them in a gallery (Gallery block).

- Open the post or page in the Block Editor and place the insertion point where the first gallery belongs.
- Insert a Gallery block. Select the Block Inserter (+), or type
/galleryin a new block and choose Gallery. WordPress also documents adding blocks with the in-content plus button and slash search (Work with blocks). - Choose the images. Upload files or select images from the Media Library. You can also drag multiple images into the Gallery block. Arrange them with the image move controls or in List View.
- Set this gallery’s display options. Select the parent Gallery block to adjust options such as columns, image resolution, cropping, aspect ratio, alignment, captions, and link behavior. Link choices include none, attachment page, media file, or Enlarge on click for a lightbox. The number of columns is limited to one through eight and cannot exceed the number of images.
- Add the next gallery. Place the insertion point at its intended position and repeat the steps with another Gallery block and its own image selection. If needed, move a block with its handles or up/down controls; blocks can be edited independently (Work with blocks).
- Preview the post or page to check that the galleries appear in the intended positions and order.
Add galleries in the Classic Editor
These steps apply to the Classic Editor, not the Block Editor. WordPress’s Classic Editor guide says a gallery can appear by itself, above or below text, or within the text flow (The WordPress Gallery (Classic Editor)).
- Place the cursor where the first gallery should appear.
- Click Add Media, then choose Create a Gallery.
- Upload or select the images, arrange them as needed, and insert the gallery.
- Move the cursor to the next location and repeat to create another gallery with its own images.
The Classic Editor workflow also offers gallery options for links, columns, and image descriptions or captions. Configure each gallery while creating it.

Use gallery shortcodes when you need a specific image set
For shortcode-based editing, the basic form is . Without an ids argument, the shortcode displays images attached to that post or page. To specify a particular set, include the Media Library image IDs, for example . Those IDs are documentation examples; use IDs from your own Media Library. To create multiple curated galleries, place a separate shortcode at each position and give each one its own ID list. See WordPress’s gallery shortcode documentation.
Choose the gallery behavior that fits

Troubleshoot common issues
- A shortcode shows the wrong images: Check whether it includes explicit
ids. Without them, it displays images attached to that post or page (WordPress gallery shortcode documentation). - A gallery needs a different layout: Select that Gallery block and change its own columns, crop, resolution, link behavior, or caption settings. Wide or full-width alignment availability depends on theme support (Gallery block).
- Images should open larger when clicked: In the Gallery block’s link settings, choose Enlarge on click for the lightbox. This is distinct from linking to the media file or attachment page (Gallery block).
- You want visitors to filter grids of posts or products: That is different from placing manually curated image galleries in a post. A specialized block such as Filterable Post Gallery is listed for grids generated from posts or WooCommerce products with taxonomy filters. Check its current compatibility and features in the plugin directory; it is not required for ordinary image galleries.
Do you need a plugin to add multiple galleries?
No. The Block Editor’s Gallery block and the Classic Editor’s media-uploader workflow can each create multiple separate galleries. Consider a specialized plugin only if you need functionality beyond manually selected image sets, such as generated grids or visitor-facing taxonomy filters. WordPress’s core documentation does not state a product-imposed maximum number of galleries per page.
