You can tag eligible products in YouTube Studio before or during a livestream, then add tags to its replay afterward. The route depends on what you’re selling: your own products require an eligible YouTube Shopping channel and a connected store; products from other brands require access to YouTube’s Shopping affiliate program. A stream being monetized does not guarantee that product tags will appear.
Choose the right product-tagging route

Check affiliate-program eligibility
For products from other brands, YouTube’s current affiliate-program guidance requires creators to be in the YouTube Partner Program, meet its subscriber threshold, and be based in a listed country. Music channels, Official Artist Channels, and channels associated with music partners are excluded. The channel audience must not be set as Made for Kids and must not have a significant number of videos set that way. YouTube can change country availability and thresholds, so check the current eligibility details and the Earn section in Studio rather than relying on a fixed number from an older guide.
Connect a store for your own products
For products you own, qualify for YouTube Shopping and connect a supported store before tagging. Shopify and Spring are examples YouTube provides; they are not requirements to use both. Product display depends on whether the item can be delivered to the viewer.
Add product tags in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- In the left menu, select Stream or Manage.
- Under the live preview, open Shopping, then select Edit to open the product picker.
- Search for an available product and select Tag. Use the untag control to remove an item.
- Select Save. The order in the picker is the order viewers see. You can also pin a product from the Shopping tab.
You can add tags after the livestream ends in Studio; tagged products then appear in the replay. You can pin or unpin a featured product during the stream. Product or order changes made during a stream may not appear immediately to viewers who are already watching.

Mobile tagging has a stated limit
YouTube’s mobile instructions allow tagging before and during a livestream and state a maximum of 60 tags in that workflow. They recommend completing tags at least 30 minutes before going live because some viewers may not see changes made during the stream right away. Treat the 60-tag figure as specific to the documented mobile workflow, not as a universal desktop limit.
Choose products that belong in the stream
YouTube’s guidance for products from other brands is to tag items that are prominent, safe to use, and meaningfully related to the livestream. Its broader tagging guidance says products should be identifiable and clearly shown so viewers can understand their design or function. Speak about or otherwise identify the products and show them in their intended use.

- Tag products in the order they appear, as YouTube recommends for live shopping.
- Give viewers a clear call to action and make time to explain items and answer questions. These are platform recommendations, not a promise of sales or ranking.
- For content with paid placements, review your contractual duties and include appropriate paid-promotion or endorsement disclosures.
- Own or control the rights to stream content or clear them, including necessary music rights. YouTube Help states: “Creators must own and control all rights to content within the live stream or clear all rights.”
Why tags may not appear to viewers
YouTube says tags will not show to viewers if a stream contains claimed content or is associated with an Official Artist Channel or music partner, is Made for Kids, is deemed limited or ineligible for monetization, is paid content, or has been blocked for ads. Monetization by itself does not establish that shopping tags are visible.
Visibility also depends on where a viewer is located, participating retailers, and shipping. Retailers control product information and purchase conditions, which may change; products from your own store surface where delivery is available.

What to know about uninterrupted 24/7 streams
YouTube’s livestream and replay guidance explains the standard tagging workflow, but does not specify special product-tag rules for uninterrupted 24/7 streams, very long sessions, or stream restarts. Do not assume tags persist across a restart or that continuous streams receive different treatment. Check the current Studio display and YouTube guidance for your stream.
