To crossfade songs in a 24/7 YouTube music stream, use playlist software with explicit crossfade controls, set an overlap between tracks, then route its audio into your streaming encoder. RadioBOSS documents those controls; OBS’s VLC playlist source documents looping and shuffle, but not crossfading between playlist items. Crossfades smooth song transitions—they do not, by themselves, keep a broadcast online or grant music rights.
How a crossfade works—and what you need
A crossfade overlaps the end of one song with the beginning of the next: the outgoing track fades down as the incoming track fades up. A playlist that simply advances or loops does not necessarily overlap tracks. Choose software that exposes a mix point and fade behavior, then send that player’s audio to the encoder broadcasting to YouTube.
RadioBOSS is one documented example. Its crossfade settings include Fade in, Mix point, Trigger mix at, Fade out, and “Start fading out on mix.” The mix point is when the next track begins before the current one ends. Its sound-level trigger uses a level setting (the manual shows a default of –14 dB) and requires the mix point to be enabled. Treat that value as a starting point, not a universal setting; song dynamics and arrangement vary. RadioBOSS Crossfading settings

- Prepare a rights-cleared playlist. Check that you have permission for the planned public livestream and any archived use. See the rights section below before leaving music running unattended.
- Enable a mix point in your player. In RadioBOSS, open Settings > Crossfades, as identified in its quick-start guide, and configure the mix point so the next track starts before the current track ends. RadioBOSS Quick Start
- Audition and adjust the fades. Listen to several transitions, including tracks with different tempos, vocal entrances, percussion, quiet intros, and long decays. Adjust the overlap and fade behavior where elements clash or leave an unwanted gap. There is no single best duration for every song pair.
- Choose the player’s output device. RadioBOSS documents selecting a main sound-card output and notes that a system or virtual card may be an available device. The right route depends on your computer and audio setup; a physical mixer or interface is not inherently required. RadioBOSS Playback settings
- Route that output into your encoder. Configure the computer’s audio routing so OBS receives the player’s sound, then check that the relevant OBS audio meter responds. Exact routing steps depend on your operating system, devices, and any routing software, so confirm the route on your own setup rather than assuming the player is audible in the program output.
- Check the broadcast in an unlisted test. Confirm the transitions, levels, playlist repeat behavior, visual scene, encoder output, and what happens if playback or the connection fails. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test, particularly for high-production or high-investment events. YouTube for Artists: Going live
RadioBOSS crossfades vs. an OBS VLC playlist
| Playback path | What the documentation establishes | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| Crossfade-capable player feeding an encoder | RadioBOSS documents mix-point and fade controls, plus playback-device settings. | You must configure and test an audio route from the player to the encoder. |
| OBS VLC playlist source | OBS documents a VLC source that can loop or shuffle a playlist; VLC must be installed for the source to work. | The cited OBS documentation does not describe crossfading between playlist items, so do not assume a playlist will overlap songs. OBS Media Sources |
Use the first path when explicit overlap and fade control are required. OBS’s playlist source can suit straightforward looping or shuffled playback, but the cited documentation does not establish it as a crossfade solution.

Meet YouTube’s livestream requirements
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Encoder-based streaming is one available method. YouTube for Artists advises enabling first-time livestreaming at least 24 hours before going live; allow time for activation and check the current Live Control Room and official guidance, since requirements and interfaces can change. Clear music rights before streaming
YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. A match can trigger a warning and placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. If you have a license for third-party music, YouTube advises asking the relevant owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; otherwise, a licensed stream may still be interrupted. Coordinate with the rights holder, label, or distributor before broadcasting. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

There is no universal India-specific licensing checklist established here. The permissions you need depend on the music, rights holders, territories, and whether you will retain an archive. A listening subscription, credit, or permission for another kind of use does not automatically authorize continuous public livestreaming. For a particular Indian catalog or business model, confirm the applicable permissions with rights holders or a qualified local adviser.

A crossfade only manages the handoff between songs. A computer-based stream also depends on the playback application, audio route, encoder, power, and network remaining functional. Before unattended use, test playlist repetition and audio through transitions, and determine how you will notice and respond to player, encoder, or connection failure. An unlisted test is a practical way to check the full chain; no crossfade setting guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps playing uploaded videos while your computer is off, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs in the cloud.
- Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team.
