In PRISM Live Studio desktop for Windows or Mac, add a music playlist through Sources > + > Music Playlist, choose tracks, arrange them, and confirm. Before going live, check music rights, prevent audio monitoring loops, and plan for YouTube’s limits: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR rewind may be limited.
Add a music playlist in PRISM Live Studio
PRISM’s desktop guide documents this workflow for Windows and Mac. It is different from the mobile app’s My Studio workflow. PRISM’s Music Playlist guide describes the source as a way to add background music to a live stream.
- In PRISM Live Studio, open Sources and click the + button.
- Choose Music Playlist and confirm.
- Open Add and Edit, or select the Music icon in the sidebar, to edit the playlist.
- Add tracks from PRISM’s supplied catalog or choose music files stored on your computer. For a catalog track, select a genre, preview it with the headphone icon, choose a duration option if one is offered, and click + to add it.
- Drag tracks into the order you want, then click OK.
- In the source properties, choose whether track title and artist information appears on screen. Turning off that display does not stop music playback.
After adding the source, use PRISM’s audio mixer to adjust or mute it. PRISM’s FAQ suggests keeping music or game audio in its green zone, microphone audio in the yellow zone, and transmitted sound out of the red zone. That is guidance for reading PRISM’s meters, not a universal loudness standard. PRISM’s FAQ has more on its audio guidance.
Choose music that is cleared for your stream
PRISM says its supplied free music is directly contracted or licensed with musicians for broadcasting and recording, cannot be downloaded, and can be used only by streaming it in PRISM. Treat this as a description of use within the app, not a blanket guarantee for every territory, monetization arrangement, platform, or use outside PRISM. See the PRISM desktop guide and PRISM FAQ.

For local files or music from another provider, make sure you have rights covering the intended YouTube live use and any archive you plan to keep. YouTube’s live-stream terms say creators must have necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate a broadcast. Even if you have a license, YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent interruptions. Check the specific license, not just the label
YouTube identifies music in the public domain or used with the copyright owner’s permission as copyright-safe options. It recommends the YouTube Audio Library and mentions Creator Music in certain regions, as well as third-party royalty-free or paid libraries; check each track’s permitted uses. A “free” label can still be flagged by Content ID, and “royalty-free” or attribution text alone does not establish permission for continuous live use and an archived stream. Prevent an audio monitoring loop
PRISM warns that setting the audio monitoring device to Default Device can make music loop on the broadcast viewing screen. Choose one of PRISM’s documented workarounds:

- Turn monitoring off: switch the audio mixer’s monitoring function off during the live stream. The trade-off is that you may not be able to hear the music yourself.
- Monitor through separate headphones or earphones: connect them, then open Settings > Audio > Advanced and set the monitoring device to something other than Default.
These steps address monitoring feedback; they do not change whether you have permission to use a track.

What “24/7” means for the YouTube stream and archive
A continuous live feed does not guarantee a complete, reliably rewindable 24-hour recording. YouTube Help says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.
Adding a playlist sets up music playback; it does not make PRISM unattended or guarantee uninterrupted operation. A desktop broadcast still depends on the computer, power, network connection, and YouTube staying available. The cited PRISM guide does not promise automatic recovery or uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
