Add an app from its Slack Marketplace listing by selecting Add to Slack. To remove an app already installed in a workspace, open Tools & settings → Manage apps → Installed Apps, select the app, and use the removal control shown under its details. Workspace approval settings and the app type affect which actions you can take.
Before you add an app: check its access and your workspace rules
Slack apps request scopes—permissions that determine what information an app can access and what it can do. Depending on the app, those may include reading channel or member information, accessing messages or files, or posting messages. Check the scopes against the app’s purpose, and review the app-page privacy policy and security or compliance information when the developer has provided them. Slack’s app guide explains what to review.
Slack says Marketplace apps are reviewed for user experience and security; that review is not a guarantee that an app is risk-free. Apps installed from outside the Marketplace display a notice that Slack has not reviewed them. Slack’s Marketplace listing is the usual route for adding an app, but workspace settings may require approval or restrict installation.
How to add an app to a Slack workspace

In Slack desktop, open the app’s listing in the Slack Marketplace. You can also open the Apps area in the sidebar and browse from there.

Review the app’s requested scopes and any available privacy, security, and compliance information.

Select Add to Slack, then follow the prompts to authorize it. If Slack presents an approval request instead, submit it with any relevant context for the workspace approver.
Members can generally install apps by default, but a Workspace Owner may enable app approval or restrict installation. When approval is enabled, owners or designated app managers can approve or restrict requests; depending on the workspace settings, members may be able to install apps that have already been approved. A restricted app cannot be installed or requested. See Slack’s instructions for adding apps and its app-approval guidance.

Open the workspace name menu and select Tools & settings → Manage apps.

In the Marketplace, open Installed Apps and select the app you want to remove.

Open App Details → Configuration, then use the removal control for that app type. For third-party or custom apps, Slack’s instructions show a Remove App action. For Slack-built apps, use the pencil or configuration control and then Remove; its placement can vary if the app has multiple configurations.
The available controls differ for third-party or custom apps, Slack-built apps, and legacy custom integrations. Slack’s removal instructions describe the app-specific paths.

Choose the right action: remove, revoke, or disable
These actions affect different things. Removing a workspace app is not the same as disconnecting one person’s authorization or turning off one configuration.

Installation is restricted or approval is required: submit an app request if Slack offers that option. If the app is restricted, ask your Workspace Owner or app manager about the workspace’s policy.

You cannot remove the app: owners can restrict who may remove apps. When app approval is enabled, only Workspace Owners and app managers may be allowed to remove them. Ask one of those administrators rather than assuming Slack is malfunctioning.

You need a different kind of disconnect: if only your own connection should be ended, look for the authorization-revocation path instead of removing the app for everyone.
When a developer changes an app’s requested scopes, the new permissions may need approval even if the app is already installed. Depending on workspace settings, the existing version may remain usable while the updated scopes await approval. Slack’s approval documentation describes how requests and scope changes are handled.
When an Enterprise organization manages apps centrally
On Enterprise plans, organization-level administrators can manage apps through the organization’s Integrations area. Org Owners, Org Admins, and members with the Integrations Admin system role can install apps at the organization level, add them to selected workspaces, or remove them from selected workspaces. If a workspace-level control is unavailable, the organization may be managing the app centrally. See Slack’s Enterprise app-management guidance.
What to know about custom integrations
Slack describes custom integrations as legacy tools that will be deprecated and possibly removed in the future, but its guidance does not give a retirement date. Slack recommends using Slack apps as their replacement. If you maintain a custom integration, review the available configuration controls and plan around Slack’s custom integration guidance.
