To add a watch face on most newer Galaxy Watches, open the Galaxy Wearable app on your paired Android phone, tap Watch faces, then choose a face or open the store for more. You can also add faces from the watch on supported Wear OS models. The exact menus and compatible faces depend on your watch model, software, and region.
Check your Galaxy Watch model and phone first
Galaxy Watch models do not all use the same software or face store. Samsung identifies Galaxy Watch generations 1–3 as legacy Tizen devices; newer models use Wear OS. On Wear OS Galaxy Watches, Samsung’s stated phone requirements are Android 6.0 or later, at least 1.5 GB of RAM, and Google Mobile Services. Those watches are not compatible with iOS, according to Samsung’s Wear OS compatibility guidance. These requirements should not be assumed to apply to every older model or regional variant.
If you are unsure which model you have, check the model name in Galaxy Wearable or in the watch’s settings before following store instructions. For a Tizen watch such as a Galaxy Watch3 or earlier, use model-specific Samsung support rather than assuming the Google Play steps below apply.
Add a watch face from your phone
- Connect the watch. Make sure your Galaxy Watch is paired with the phone and the Galaxy Wearable app can see it.
- Open Galaxy Wearable. On the connected phone, tap Watch faces.
- Choose or browse. Select one of the available faces to apply it. For more choices, tap the store option shown in the app, which may be labelled Get more or More watch faces.
- Install and apply. Follow the store’s prompts and any compatible-device selection. Then return to Watch faces and select the downloaded face if it did not become active automatically.
Samsung’s instructions for downloading faces vary somewhat by model and region; the labels on your screen may differ. Add a face directly on a supported Wear OS watch
- Press and hold the current watch face to open face-edit mode.
- Swipe through the available faces, then tap Add watch face or More watch faces, depending on the interface.
- Choose a built-in face or open Google Play to browse and install another one. Follow the prompts on the watch or paired phone.
- After installation, return to the face gallery and select the new face if it is not already active.
Samsung’s support instructions describe adding faces on supported Galaxy Watch models, but the exact menu wording can vary. The install and activation steps can be separate: Samsung Developer guidance for Galaxy Watch5 and One UI Watch 4.5 noted that new and previously purchased Google Play faces would not automatically become active. Treat the gallery as the place to confirm which face is currently selected.
Customize the face after adding it
To adjust a face, open its edit mode on the watch or select it in Galaxy Wearable and tap Customize if that option is available. Depending on the face, settings may include color, background, or complications—small information displays or app shortcuts. A face may have no customization controls, and the available settings are determined by the face and device.

Why a watch face may be missing or unavailable
- It does not support your watch or software. Check the store listing for compatibility with your exact model and operating-system version. Samsung says some faces or apps may be unavailable on Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra because of Wear OS 5 compatibility requirements. Samsung’s compatibility guidance explains this limitation.
- The face has not been updated to the required format. Google says Watch Face Format is required to install watch faces on all Wear OS devices as of January 2026. A listing that does not meet current requirements may therefore be unavailable on a newer watch. See Google’s Watch Face Format documentation.
- The watch or app needs an update. Install available updates for the watch and Galaxy Wearable, then check the listing again.
- You have a Tizen model. Galaxy Watch3 and earlier use a different ecosystem from Wear OS. Samsung’s developer materials distinguish Galaxy Watch Studio for Tizen watches from Watch Face Studio for Wear OS watches; see Samsung’s watch-face development overview. Do not use the Wear OS Play Store workflow as a substitute for the model-specific Tizen support route.
If the publisher has not made a face compatible with your watch, choose another face whose listing explicitly supports your model and software.
