You can modernize a Game Boy Color with an OLED screen and USB-C charging, but they are separate modifications—not a confirmed plug-and-play combination. The screen kit, charging board, shell and battery must all match your console and each other. Check the exact revisions and instructions, then test the parts before permanently assembling the console.
What each modification changes
An OLED kit replaces the Game Boy Color’s display. A USB-C charging conversion changes the console’s power hardware. The USB-C port described for the charging mod is for charging; the cited documentation does not establish that it supports USB data or works as a general-purpose USB-C port.
Neither the cited product pages nor the installation guide establish that a particular Hispeedido OLED revision works with a particular USB-C board and battery. Treat compatibility as something to verify for the exact parts, not as a guarantee based on the fact that both are sold for a Game Boy Color.
What the Hispeedido OLED kit offers
Hispeedido describes its touch-enabled, laminated GBC AMOLED/OLED display as including an on-screen display (OSD), four retro-pixel effects, 32 logo colors and frame-blending control. Check the screen fit before installation
The retailer listing for the cited Hispeedido screen says it requires a pre-cut laminated GBC shell and identifies FunnyPlaying laminated shells as compatible. Confirm that the specific shell and screen revisions match before ordering: a general brand or model name does not prove that every revision fits. The screen’s manufacturer maintains an installation page with a tutorial for its touch laminated GBC OLED screen. Find Hispeedido’s installation tutorials.
- Confirm the shell and kit. Match the screen-kit revision to the exact pre-cut laminated shell model specified for it. Do not assume an unmodified original shell will fit.
- Gather the required tools. The retailer listing says a soldering iron, solder and screwdrivers are not included. Check the kit’s current instructions for any additional requirements. Review the retailer’s installation and tool notes.
- Connect the power-switch wire. The listing specifies one soldered wire to the power switch. Follow the instructions supplied for your exact kit revision.
- Test before fixing the screen in place. The retailer recommends testing before applying adhesive or removing backing. Confirm the image and controls work before permanently positioning the laminated display.
- Assemble carefully. Follow the kit’s instructions for handling and positioning the display; avoid improvising shell cuts or adhesive placement.
What to expect from the USB-C charging conversion
The Game Boy Resource guide describes Giltesa’s USB-C Charging Kit Pro as a custom TP4056-based board that replaces the original DC jack and DC-DC board. The guide says this kit is not compatible with OEM screens, does not include a battery, and requires fine case modification and high soldering skill. Because the cited compatibility warning is specific to that kit, check the instructions for the exact board you plan to use rather than applying it to every USB-C conversion. The guide gives a 103050 lithium battery at about 1600 mAh as an example that can fit after moderate cutting of the battery compartment. It is not a universal fit recommendation: available space depends on the shell and how it is modified. Check the cell’s physical dimensions against your actual compartment and the charging board’s instructions before buying or installing it.
The guide warns that the TP4056-based rechargeable approaches it covers do not support play-and-charge, and it cautions users about lithium batteries. Keep that limitation scoped to those approaches; it does not establish whether every USB-C charging board has the same behavior. OLED or IPS: choose by installation needs, not an unproven winner
The cited sources describe a Hispeedido OLED/AMOLED kit and a separate FunnyPlaying IPS kit, but do not provide a controlled comparison of image quality, brightness, battery life, color accuracy, durability or value.
