To add an email account to a Samsung Galaxy phone, open Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts > Add account, choose your provider, and follow the sign-in prompts. If you specifically want to use Samsung Email, download it from Galaxy Store or Google Play Store if it is not already on the phone, then select your provider inside the app. Providers such as Google, Yahoo, and Outlook are generally set up automatically. Any other provider needs manual setup with server details from that provider.
Add an account through device settings
Adding an account at device level is the route Samsung documents first. It works for any account type the phone supports and does not depend on which email app you use afterward. For a Google account, the account then becomes available to the Gmail app.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup.
- Tap Manage accounts.
- Tap Add account.
- Select the provider, such as Google, and follow the prompts to sign in.
Menu labels can differ slightly by model, Android version, and carrier. If you do not see Accounts and backup, look for an equivalent entry such as Accounts and then the same Add account option.
Install Samsung Email if it is missing
Samsung Email is a separate app. Samsung does not guarantee that it is preinstalled on every Galaxy model, so check your app drawer first. If it is missing, install it from one of these sources:

- Google Play Store, which works on any Android phone.
Open the app after installing it. You can also choose the app that matches your email provider if you prefer a provider-specific app.
Set up the account inside Samsung Email
Inside Samsung Email, the setup path depends on whether your provider is one the app recognizes. Samsung’s setup guidance describes two paths.

Automatic setup for listed providers
- Open Samsung Email.
- Select your provider, such as Google, Yahoo, or Outlook.
- Enter your email address and sign in.
- Complete any additional approval the provider asks for, such as a prompt in another app or a security confirmation.
A correct password is not always enough. Some providers add a verification or access step, and the sign-in screen may differ from what Samsung’s guide shows.

Manual setup for other providers
- Open Samsung Email and select Other.
- Choose Manual setup.
- Select the account type that matches your provider’s instructions.
- Enter the incoming and outgoing server settings your provider publishes, then finish sign-in.
Get the server addresses, ports, and encryption options from your email provider’s help pages or account settings. Samsung’s instructions do not list universal values, and a value that works for one provider will often fail for another.

Choose IMAP if you read mail on several devices
Samsung recommends IMAP for email you use on more than one device. IMAP keeps messages and folders on the server, so changes you make on the phone, such as reading or moving a message, appear on your computer or tablet as well. If you choose a POP-style account on the phone, messages may be downloaded and stored only on that device, so other devices may not show the same state. Check which protocol your provider offers when you pick the account type in manual setup.
When setup fails
Samsung’s support instructions cover the main setup path but do not provide a universal troubleshooting sequence. Use these checks before contacting support:

- Wrong provider option: If you chose an automatic provider that fails, try the same account through Other and Manual setup.
- Server details: Confirm the incoming and outgoing server settings with your provider, since these are the most common source of manual setup errors.
- Additional sign-in step: If the provider sent an approval request or security alert, complete it before retrying.
- Different menu names: If a label is missing, the same steps usually appear under a similar heading on your model.
For authentication problems or server-specific errors, your email provider is the right source for the exact fix.
Notes on regional and model differences
Samsung states that screens and settings can vary by wireless carrier, software version, and phone model. Samsung’s Colombia support page, updated 2026-09-24, applies to products purchased in Colombia; the US support page covers adding accounts through Settings and installing Samsung Email or a provider app. Treat the menu paths above as the usual routes, and adjust them to match what your phone displays.
