You can’t add the standard Elgato Key Light to Apple Home as a Matter accessory using the setup Elgato documents. Elgato’s instructions pair the light over Wi-Fi and control it through Control Center; they do not provide an Apple Home or Matter pairing process. If you need native Apple Home control, use a light confirmed to support Matter and Apple Home instead.
Does Elgato Key Light support Matter?
Elgato’s documentation reviewed for this article does not identify Matter support for the standard Key Light or explain how to enroll it in Apple Home. Its documented control path is Elgato Control Center, not the Apple Home app. Elgato’s firmware history lists firmware 1.0.3 (222), which requires Control Center 1.7.1 and includes security improvements and a fix for a light becoming unresponsive; it does not describe a Matter update. This is a statement about the official documentation available, not proof that no unofficial integration exists or that Elgato could never add support later. Do not treat a firmware update, Wi-Fi connection, or discovery in Control Center as evidence of Matter compatibility.
Why Wi-Fi setup does not add the light to Apple Home
Elgato specifies 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi with WPA/WPA2 encryption for Key Light. Its protocol documentation describes Bonjour/multicast discovery and HTTP requests between Control Center and the paired light. Those are the documented network and control mechanisms; they do not establish that the device speaks Matter. Elgato’s technical specifications list 2,800 lumens, adjustable color temperature from 2,900–7,000 K, and up to 45 W power consumption.

How to connect Key Light to Elgato Control Center
You can still set up the light and control its lighting through Elgato’s own app. This does not enroll it in Apple Home.
- Connect the Key Light to power and follow Elgato’s getting-started instructions to pair it with your Wi-Fi network using the iOS device setup process. The specified Wi-Fi band is 2.4 GHz.
- Open Elgato Control Center and select the paired light. Elgato documents using the app to turn the light on or off, adjust brightness, and fine-tune color temperature; see its iOS setup guide.
- If Control Center offers a firmware update, you can follow Elgato’s firmware update instructions. The published firmware notes do not identify an update that adds Matter or Apple Home pairing.
What Apple Home requires for a Matter light
Apple says a Matter accessory can be added to the Apple Home ecosystem through the Home app or another HomeKit-based app. Apple lists lights as a supported Matter accessory category. Those instructions apply to accessories that are Matter-compatible; they do not convert a Wi-Fi device controlled through another protocol into a Matter product. For non-Thread Matter accessories, Apple’s compatibility guidance says pairing and local control require an iPhone with iOS 18 or later or an iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. Automations, notifications, and remote access require a compatible home hub, such as HomePod or Apple TV. These requirements are for a genuine compatible Matter accessory; meeting them will not make the standard Key Light appear as a Matter device. See Apple’s Matter setup and compatibility guidance.
What to choose if direct Apple Home control matters
If native Apple Home control is essential, compare a light whose Matter certification and Apple Home pairing support are confirmed. Check more than the smart-home label: a smart bulb may be Matter-compatible but still lack the brightness, adjustable color range, mounting, or physical form needed for a desk or creator setup. Also check whether the Apple Home functions you want require a compatible hub. Apple’s list of supported Matter categories includes lights, but it does not establish that any particular replacement is suitable as a creator key light.

If you keep the Key Light, use Control Center for its documented controls. The official setup material reviewed here does not provide a direct route to add the standard Key Light to Apple Home with Matter.
